A no.fica.on of acceptance and authoriza.on to begin construc.on of the Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk all- weather highway has been issued to EGT- Northwind Ltd., with a formal signing of the $229.3 million contract to follow.

13 In August 2012, the Department of Transporta.on was recognized by the Ins.tute of Public Administra.on of Canada (IPAC) for innova.ve management in engaging Aboriginal governments and the regional popula.on in planning and consulta.on for the Mackenzie Valley Highway project. The consulta.ons also included partnerships and capacity building within Aboriginal governments and at the community level.

In order to facilitate con4nued growth and prosperity throughout Labrador, we must improve marine transporta4on in the region. We look forward to partnering with a contractor to secure a faster, more efficient, long- term solu4on for ferry- dependent communi4es in Labrador. - The Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister of Transporta9on and Works and Minister Responsible for Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs

It is no longer just about engaging the aboriginal business community for traditional knowledge It is not just about finding an aboriginal partner to gain a competitive political advantage It is about supporting real northern and aboriginal businesses

19 Our Conversations about Economic Development in Labrador Need to Change. Comprehensive Land Claims are not things to be avoided or considered irrelevant. Rather, Land Claims are a tool kit or road map to economic prosperity in Labrador and Northern Regions.
