3 Overview of BPC Roundtable 2017 Shanghai On July 27 th, 2017 (Thurs.), the City of Osaka and the Osaka Business Partner City Council held the BPC Roundtable 2017 jointly with the Shanghai Municipal at the Sheraton Grand Shanghai Pudong in the City of Shanghai. This conference, which representatives from City of Osaka as well as each of its Business Partner Cities (BPC) come together, marks the 28 th hosting of this event and eight cities made each presentation and introduced undertakings and tasks under the theme Trade Facilitation in the Asia-Pacific Region, and all the participants followed up with active exchange of opinions. Additionally, the City of Osaka touched upon the necessity for creation of innovation businesses and cooperation between BPC and made a proposal to invite relevant businesses of BPC-affiliated organizations to the innovation pitch event, Hack Osaka 2018, which will be held in February 2018 and to provide them with opportunities to promote themselves and establish a network with investors and entrepreneurs as an undertaking for next year s 30-year anniversary of the BPC s establishment. As part of a joint event, Asia-Pacific Model E-port Network (APMEN) Seminar was hosted by the Shanghai Municipal and the Asia-Pacific Model E-port Network (APMEN) Operational Center on the afternoon of the same day, and introductions on the improvement of connectivity of the Center s Asia-Pacific marine transport supply chain, as well as on pilot project for trade facilitation and tasks for the future. Additionally, in a different venue, the Chamber of International Commerce Shanghai(COIC)/ China Council for the Promotion of International Trade(CCPIT), the Shanghai Federation of Industry and Commerce and the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry jointly hosted the Chinese Environmental/Silver/Healthcare Industry Local Business Meeting, focused on meetings between businesses from Osaka and Chinese businesses that have bases in the City of Shanghai. During the evening, the City of Osaka hosted the BPC Roundtable Networking Reception for the aim of deepening friendships and business relations between Osaka and Shanghai. Approximately 150 participants attended, including BPC Roundtable participants, officials in the Shanghai Municipal People s Government, officials affiliated with related organizations, the Osaka business mission group, local businesses in Shanghai, local diplomatic offices, and officials involved in economic organizations. Active interactions were conducted at this venue. On the day before the Roundtable Meeting, on the 26 th (Wed.), the Shanghai Municipal People s Government invited the City of Osaka to the BPC Roundtable Welcome Reception, where BPC Roundtable participants as well as officials from the Shanghai Municipal People s Government and other related organizations interacted. Furthermore, on the day after the Roundtable Meeting, on the 28 th (Fri.), an optional tour was conducted in which Roundtable Meeting participants visited the Shanghai Tower and the Asia- Pacific Model E-port Network (APMEN) Operational Center for the purpose of investigating urban development and port system development projects within the City of Shanghai. 2

14 China Environment/Silver/Healthcare Industry Business Meeting At a different venue in the same hotel that the BPC Roundtable discussions were held, the City of Osaka, the Shanghai Municipal, the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Shanghai Federation of Industry and Commerce and the Shanghai International Commerce Center all jointly hosted the China s Environment/Silver/Healthcare Industry Local Business Meetings. Businesses in Osaka and local Shanghai businesses conducted individual business meetings. The venue was filled with many companies looking for new businesses, and was incredibly successful. 15 Optional Tour On the 28 th (Fri.), the day after the BPC Roundtable discussions, an optional tour was offered to visit the Shanghai Tower, which is the world s second tallest high-rise building, as well as the Asia- Pacific Model E-Port Network (APMEN) Operational Center(AOC)(on the 37 th floor of the Shanghai Tower). From the observation deck of the Shanghai Tower, participants were able to see the latest status of the City of Shanghai s urban development. At the AOC, presentations regarding the functions and undertakings of the Asia-Pacific Model E-Port Network (APMEN) Operational Center were conducted, and there was an active exchange of opinions between Roundtable participants regarding undertakings, the current status of each city, and future tasks in facilitation of the cargo export system.
