12 SCHEDULING INSPECTIONS The national regulations authorizes FAA to conduct announced or unannounced inspections at any time 12
13 PLANNING PERIODIC INSPECTIONS Regional Airports branch manager and lead ACSI develop schedule Schedule must be Based on previous inspection date and last assigned inspector Posted in CCMIS 13
14 FREQUENCY OF PERIODIC INSPECTIONS If the airport is a(n) Class I Class II or Class III Class IV Airport holding an AOC that has been placed in an inactive status then inspect on a 9-15 month cycle resulting in a regional average of 12 calendar months between inspections 18 month cycle 24 month cycle Cycle deemed appropriate by the regional Airports Division (surveillance inspections) 14
15 FREQUENCY OF PERIODIC INSPECTIONS Shortening the time between inspections is permitted to accommodate Geographic proximity Operational need Extending inspection cycles requires coordination with AAS
16 ANNOUNCED INSPECTIONS 1. Determine the frequency and type of inspection 2. For a periodic inspection, check file for previous inspection date 3. For existing certificated airports, select a date based on previous inspection date 16
17 ANNOUNCED INSPECTIONS 4. Contact certificate holder by phone to verify suitability of date at least 2 weeks before proposed inspection 5. Follow up with confirmation letter including date and requested records 17

22 SOURCE DOCUMENT REVIEW In the Airport Master Record (FAA Form ) Aeronautical Information System the ACSI should look for the ARFF Index obvious inconsistencies with other airport documents that need verification during inspection data needing update during inspection U.S. Terminal Procedures Charts Airport Obstruction Chart (OC) Obstacle Limitations data Airport/Facility Directory (A/FD) inconsistencies with other airport documents obstructions to verify their existence or removal during inspection inconsistencies with the 5010 or the ALP Obstacle limitation category of runways Airport Layout Plan (ALP) inconsistencies with current Terminal Procedures charts (approach plates), AIS and ACM current and proposed development inconsistencies with the A/FD and the AIS 22
23 SOURCE DOCUMENT REVIEW In the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) file the ACSI should look for the programmed construction projects Airport Certification Manual (ACM) Modification of Standards (MOS) Airport certification files Legal enforcement investigative reports and vehicle/pedestrian deviation reports Accident/incident history compliance with national regulations current exemptions and MOSs sign and marking plan correctly used modifications that are not in violation of national standards previous inspection records violation history for the past 3 years including open discrepancies and repeating deficiencies reports for the last 5 years trends that may indicate a problem area Airport compliance file areas of noncompliance 23
