2 Program Description / Purpose Low Cost Ground Surveillance The program will provide basic ground surveillance capability to improve situational awareness at airports where deployment of surface surveillance equipment is not currently planned. By improving surface situational awareness for controllers, LCGS systems will reduce the risk of ground traffic incidents, incursions, and accidents. 9 General LCGS Abilities* Primary RADAR, does not require transponder equipment. Provide surveillance coverage that is scalable and adaptable from a single runway to an entire airport movement area. Operate in all-weather low visibility conditions. Wind loading 85 knots Provide future interface to other automation and surveillance platforms (e.g. ARTS-2E, STARS) * Detailed requirements can be found in applicable LCGS Program Requirements Documents 9 9

10 General LCGS Abilities (cont d) Operate with an update rate once every second Track from the surface to a minimum of 50 feet above ground level (AGL) not to exceed a maximum tracking height of 500 feet AGL. Overflights are not tracked Comply with applicable sections of FAAO , noncontrol system only, no new procedures required

11 Operational Eval Purpose Evaluate the real-time daily performance and usability from an operational ATC user perspective. Assess technical performance against system requirements

12 LCGS Participation Used as a tool only on a voluntary basis Submittal of evaluation forms is voluntary User feedback is voluntary The system is not to be used for control purposes. LCGS Prototype is not a NAS certified piece of equipment 6/1/
