6 9 10 DISCOVER UNIVERSAL AVIONICS Setting the Standard: Research and Engineering Research, development, engineering and design activities are conducted at two U.S. facilities: the Engineering-Southeast Division located near Atlanta, Georgia, and the Engineering-Northwest Division in the high-tech corridor of Redmond, Washington. Supported by specialized computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) equipment, our innovative use of advancements in computer technology has continually taken the avionics industry forward, resulting in increased safety of flight. As our products evolve, each benefit from new developments in computer hardware and advanced production techniques, steadily decreasing in size and weight while increasing in features and performance. Our engineers are continually increasing functionality, usability and integration applicability. Every system in our product line offers features or capabilities that have set the standard of excellence within the industry. I like a thing to look right. 7 11 12 DISCOVER UNIVERSAL AVIONICS Flight Test: A Culture of Safety Manufacturing: Putting It All Together To support the company s intensive flight test activities, the Universal Avionics Flight Department is co-located with the company s headquarters in a hangar at the Tucson International Airport (TIA), just a short distance away. Tucson offers superb weather that supports nearly 350 good-weather flying days, and the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) procedures at TIA supports regular evaluation of our Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS)-FMS. We returned home, after these experiments, with the conviction that sailing flight was not the exclusive prerogative of birds. Otto Lilienthal The Glider King and Pioneer of Aviation The Flight Department thoroughly tests every product, ensuring that it performs as required in all operating environments. Regularly gathering data during flight allows Engineering to analyze that data to evaluate performance, validate design and ensure product safety. The Flight Department also provides sales support through customer and dealer demonstration flights. An internal support staff of mechanics and avionics technicians keep up with day-to-day operations and maintenance for the company s aircraft and ensures the company meets the ever changing needs to capture meaningful flight test data in support of Engineering. The department also supports flight testing for Supplemental Type Certificates (STC) in support of our Technical Standard Order (TSO) approvals. Over 13 years, the company has conducted nearly 2,500 flights totaling 3,943 flight hours in various aircraft. It currently maintains and operates a Beechcraft King Air F90, Bombardier Challenger CL-601 and a Cessna Citation VII. A formerly owned King Air 350 helped complete 22 Supplemental Type Certificates in just 12 years. Our unique vertically integrated manufacturing facility is located at the Universal Avionics headquarters campus in Tucson, Arizona. It was built in close proximity to the company s main decision-center to strategically allow product manufacturing to be directly integrated into sales, order processing and shipping activities. In addition, it facilitates strong management of quality control objectives during production and transition from Engineering. The facility features the latest in automated circuit board assembly, final unit assembly and environmental test technologies. Advanced supply chain, manufacturing flow and quality systems combine to offer short lead times, high quality and rapid delivery to market. Progressive just-in-time approach to system design, engineering and in-house manufacturing allows us to reduce in-process inventory and associated carrying costs, while focusing on continuous improvement. Today s SBAS-capable FMSs build upon our popular market-proved product design, offering more advanced features and interfaces, and a growth path to meet the requirements of the future. Our three basic models, UNS-1Ew, UNS-1Fw and UNS-1Lw, plus a specially packaged UNS-1Espw with reduced depth, provide operators with the ability to select the optimum system to match their aircraft interface requirements. A configuration option enables the use of Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS), European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS), Multi-functional Satellite Augmentation System (MSAS) and GPS-Aided Geo-Augmented Navigation (GAGAN) Satellite-Based Augmentations Systems as part of its navigational solution. The SBAS-FMS can be integrated with the EFI-890R/890H Advanced Flight Displays or InSight Integrated Flight Deck. Our Multi-Missions Management System (MMMS) incorporates the advanced technology, system design, features and capabilities included in our SBAS-enabled FMSs with special interfaces and the ability to fly six distinct patterns. The MMMS generates and steers the aircraft through the following pattern types: Rising Ladder, Race Track, Expanding Square, Sector Search, Orbit and Border Patrol. The MMMS is unmatched for special mission operations such as Search and Rescue (SAR), reconnaissance, surveillance, maritime patrol, border patrol, geophysical survey and flight inspection. The MMMS can be integrated with the EFI-890R/890H Advanced Flight Displays or InSight Integrated Flight Deck.

15 FlexPerf Trip Performance Airdrop Module DISCOVER UNIVERSAL AVIONICS The FlexPerf Trip Performance Module for the Universal Avionics SBAS-FMS and MMMS provides advanced fuel saving predictions for aircraft performance in Climb, Cruise and Descent phases of flight. The heart of FlexPerf is a flexible intelligent design feature continuously recording actual aircraft fuel burn during every phase of flight. Using this data, FlexPerf applies improvements to the baseline aircraft performance data stored in the FMS/MMMS. The resulting calculations provide aircraft performance predictions to build a performance profile computed with 95% accuracy. Airdrop is an optional module available for Universal Avionics MMMS that calculates an Air Release Point (ARP), and provides guidance and steering to a position offset where the delivery should exit the aircraft for a landing at the desired drop zone. Specific parachute ballistic and aircraft data can be conveniently created offline via a Universal-supplied PC tool. Airdrop delivery profiles can be created directly through the MMMS Control Display Unit (CDU), or ahead of time with the offline PC tool. Once loaded, the profile can be changed or edited by the flight crew prior to commencing the airdrop release. Solid-State Data Transfer Unit The Solid-State Data Transfer Unit (SSDTU) provides centralized uploading and downloading of data to and from several Universal Avionics products including the FMS, TAWS, and Vision-1 databases and for Application Server Unit (ASU) charts, checklists and E-DOCS. The SSDTU features flash memory and SD card technology that adds speed and ease of use to data transfers. Climb Performance Descend Performance On Data Page 1, the operator can enter Point of Impact location, aircraft speed profiles related to the Air Release Point and edit other drop profile parameters. Airdrop Data Page 4 displays navigation information relating to the loaded airdrop profile including repeat pattern flight path data. FlightReview FMS Flight Data Reduction and Playback Software Cruise Performance Airdrop Data Page 2 displays information for the selected type of airdrop including chute data, load parameters and wind considerations. Airdrop Data Page 5 displays airdrop status information in relation to the loaded profile. LP/LPV Monitor The LP/LPV Monitor is specifically designed to provide Localizer Performance with Vertical guidance (LPV) approach capabilities for single SBAS-FMS installations. Together, the LP/LPV Monitor and SBAS-FMS provide the level of integrity required to meet the performance criteria mandated by certification authorities. FlightReview FlightReview is a valuable analysis tool providing easy access and review of past flights and approaches. It combines FMS action sequences with 3D rendering of the flight plan over Google Earth for a virtual view from the pilot s seat of any previously recorded flight. Simply take the flight data recorded by the FMS Internal Flight Data Recorder (IFDR) and upload it to the FlightReview program on a PC to fly the latest flight plan. FlightReview is useful for demonstrations, training, Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) and analysis of flight test results.

It offers distinct advantages in sunlight readability, high-resolution and highcontrast, as well as extremely wide viewing angles The EFI-890 series Advanced Flight Displays provide a flexible large-format retrofit solution for incorporating Primary Flight Display (PFD), Navigation Display (ND) and Multi-Function Display (MFD) functionality. As the most versatile retrofit display system available today, it is a time-proven solution with over 30 STCs available within the Universal Avionics Authorized Dealer Network. The compact and easy-to-integrate MFD-640 adds valuable display capabilities to any flight deck. Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration. Thomas Edison Inventor and Businessman EFI-890R EFI-890H MFD-890R/890H MFD-640 As the primary provider of situational awareness for the flight crew, the EFI-890R is classed as a Type I PFD and ND. It provides display of all primary flight information normally associated with standard Attitude Director Indicator (ADI) and Horizontal Situation Indicator (HSI) presentations as well as altitude, flight guidance and speed information. Based on a common Smart Display hardware design for multiple platforms, the EFI-890R can be installed as a stand-alone PFD or ND, or as part of a complete avionics suite. Approved in over 30 aircraft platforms, the EFI-890R offers extensive interface capabilities to make it the most versatile large format display on the market today. The EFI-890H Advanced Flight Display is tailored to the tactical missions of rotorcraft operators. The system offers flexibility for installation as a stand-alone Primary Flight Display (PFD), as well as a fully integrated PFD / Navigation Display (ND) cockpit system. For missions flown under night vision goggles, the EFI-890H offers lighting filters uniquely adapted for nighttime tactical missions. The EFI-890H provides an array of inform- ation and display capabilities for helicopter operators. It supports Enhanced Vision Systems (EVS), broadcast weather, infrared and color cameras as well as a host of other interfaces for superior mission performance in IFR conditions. Incorporating EFI-890R/890H hardware in a single stand-alone Multi-Function Display configuration, the MFD-890R and MFD-890H (helicopter variant) meet the needs of operators who want to incorporate additional capabilities in the aircraft like moving maps or charts, but have limited time or budget for an entire flight deck retrofit. The MFD-890R/890H is fully compatible with the EFI-890R/890H and can be used as part of a complete flight deck retrofit at a later time. The MFD-640 interfaces with a variety of weather radar, TAWS and traffic avoidance systems as well as onboard video, Vision-1, FMS, uplinked weather graphics and lightning detection systems. Its compact size and extensive interface capabilities make it a versatile instrument for installation in a host of aircraft platforms, and adds valuable functionality for the operator.

The high-resolution terrain database features crisp, clear you have to see it images. The Egocentric pilot s view provides the pilot with a perspective as if looking out the flight deck window. The unique Exocentric wingman s view provides a 3-D view of your aircraft with respect to the flight path and surrounding terrain. Dynamic video output can be displayed on the EFI-890R/890H or MFD-640 navigation displays. Aircraft inputs such as position, altitude, air speed, glideslope and flight plan along with internal terrain and airport databases allow our Terrain Awareness and Warning System (TAWS) to predict a potential conflict between the aircraft s future flight path and terrain. The resulting unprecedented look-ahead capability provides warnings and alerts well in advance of potential hazards, allowing time for the pilot to make the necessary maneuvers or data corrections for terrain avoidance. TAWS provides an exceptionally crisp and clear graphical depiction of actual terrain in three view formats (Map View, 3-D Perspective View and Profile View), on the FMS Control Display Units (CDU) or flight deck displays such as the MFD-640 or EFI-890R. Designed to Class III Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) certification requirements, the Application Server Unit (ASU) is a full-featured system designed for display through the EFI-890R/890H Advanced Flight Display flight deck mounted system. The ASU supports procedural checklists, electronic documents (E-DOCS), Present Position (PPOS), broadcast weather graphics and external video. Safety and situational awareness are improved while electronic charts reduce pilot workload. Developed in full compliance with DO-178B Level C guidelines and FANS 1/A+ standards, the UniLink UL-800/801 Communications Management Unit (CMU) accommodates the expansion of data link services into more streamlined applications of airline and air traffic operations such as Controller-Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) and Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B). The benefits of equipping with FANS 1/A+ technology includes preferred routing in the North Atlantic Airspace, and complete Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) functionality. Other benefits include multiple media routing, auto position reporting, high-resolution weather graphics, a loadable customer database and data recording output. UniLink UL-800/801 can be integrated with the EFI-890R/890H Advanced Flight Displays or InSight Integrated Flight Deck. The Radio Control Unit (RCU) provides a centralized, easy-to-use control interface, with radio tuning and mode control function. Consolidating multiple radio control heads into a single, advanced controller provides savings in space and weight, while increasing efficiency and adding sophisticated radio tuning capabilities to the flight deck. The RCU seamlessly integrates with the Universal Avionics SBAS-FMS or can be integrated into the flight deck as a stand-alone radio tuning device. The Universal Avionics line of Cockpit Voice and Flight Data Recorders (CVR/FDR) includes five model options, providing a customized recording solution for your aircraft. The line offers an independent as well as a combination or combi Cockpit Voice and Flight Data Recorder (CVFDR), each with an internal Recorder Independent Power Supply (RIPS) option. Weighing less than 9 pounds, the lightweight and compact models are the most advanced and convenient recorders available today. The AHS-525 Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS) offers the superb reliability of Micro-electromechanical System (MEMS) technology. In comparison to older mechanical spinning gyroscopes, the MEMS-based AHS-525 produces a significant advantage in overall reliability. The AHS-525 contains multiple rate gyros to measure angular aircraft motion in the pitch, roll and yaw axes and several accelerometers to measure aircraft linear motion along the longitudinal, lateral and vertical axes of the aircraft. With a reduction in the LRU footprint, wiring and power requirements, the AHS-525 is a clear choice for operators seeking a cost-effective and reliable AHRS solution.

With fewer required external Line Replaceable Units (LRU) for essential functions than traditional avionics systems, the InSight Integrated Flight Deck means less avionics weight and wiring for the aircraft. The Electronic Control Display Unit (ECDU) provides centralized control for the InSight Integrated Flight Deck, and display for an integrated FMS. Intuitive graphical icons are featured on the ECDU for continuity in user control and input with the EFI-1040 displays. The Alphanumeric Keyboard (ANK) provides tactile user input to the InSight system and integrated SBAS-FMS. Function keys such as NAV, FUEL, and DATA on the keyboard streamline control of FMS functions while alphanumeric keys can be used to edit and enter information as an alternative to the ECDU rotary (SEL) knob. Housed in a 3 MCU box, the Data Concentrator Unit (DCU) II provides various avionics discrete, analog and serial data interface inputs, passing that data through to other controlling devices in the aircraft. It is a part of the overall InSight system backbone, allowing for integration into aircraft with various analog and discrete native interfaces.
