3 Welcome Aboard Welcome to Korean Air Virtual. Thank you for choosing us as your virtual airline career. We are an online community created by enthusiasts towards flight simulation and burning passion for aviation. We at Korean Air Virtual know that there are several different virtual pilots around the globe with different backgrounds and experience in online flying, but one thing we all have in common is that we all have a burning passion for aviation and share the same hobby that is to fly online with Microsoft Flight Simulator and have fun together. Even if you are an experience pilot or a completely new pilot in online flying, Korean Air Virtual is a community that benefits all pilots with different experience that are willing to share and learn about online flying. We believe that we offer a great learning environment for pilots of all abilities and we strive for excellence in flight and realism and we do so while having FUN. 4 Introduction Korean Air Virtual is a Virtual Airline for Flight Simulator enthusiasts. All logo s images and trademarks remain the property of their respective owners. Korean Air Virtual simulates real world airline routes using Microsoft Flight Simulator and is for entertainment purposes only. We are not associated with, nor do we claim to be associated with any realworld airline in any way. Korean Air Virtual aims to take the lead in virtual global transportation network. Korean Air Virtual is a Virtual Airline for Microsoft Flight Simulator / X-plane that recreates Korean Air's scheduled passenger and cargo services from Incheon Seoul to major destinations around the world. We are a flight simulator based virtual airline for online flight simulation. We also have realistic fleet scheduling and virtual airline dispatch center. All of our virtual airways flights take place offline or online on the VATSIM network. We at Korean Air Virtual provide you all the necessary tools to fly with our virtual airline such as free flight tracking software VAFS Pilot client, the Korean Air Virtual flight monitoring PIREP software. We also maintain our website up to date in design and content and keeping our forum up to date with latest information from the real world Korean Air and the virtual world and of course information regarding our organization. 4

5 We have a small group of management team at Korean Air Virtual that you can turn to whenever you have a question or a problem. Let us know and we can work together to solve your problem. Basic Rules As a Korean Air Virtual pilot there are rules to be followed as in real aviation industry. We strive to be a professional virtual airline with serious pilots who are committed to fly as in real life aviation but at the same time have fun. We at Korean Air Virtual hope that you will follow these simple rules and feel that you are a part of a serious and professional virtual airline. Minimum requirements To qualify for membership to Korean Air Virtual the pilot is required to meet the following minimum criteria. * The pilot must own a copy of Flight Simulator 2004 or FSX or X-Plane. * The pilot must be registered with the VATSIM Online Organization. * The ability to fly for Korean Air Virtual once every 30 days. * The pilot must provide their real identity. (No nicknames or call signs are permitted) * The ability to show professionalism within the organization and when conducting Online Operations. * Due to competition among virtual airlines members of other Virtual Airlines that model Korean Air / Routes will not be accepted. Online Network * There is no formal requirement to fly using the VATSIM online network; however we do require you to register with the VATSIM network. * Please make sure you enter your correct VATSIM network ID on the application form. * Applications submitted with an incorrect network ID will be rejected. 5

6 * New Pilots your first flight for Korean Air Virtual must be completed within 14 days of your acceptance date. * If you have difficulties with using our system, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can assist you. Pilot Inactivity Policy * Korean Air Virtual operates a 30 day active flying policy, which means pilots must fly at least one flight every 30 days. * Pilots who are inactive after the 30 day period may be removed without notice from the rosters. Pilot Reports or "PIREPS" * All flights must be filed using the VAFS Pilot client software provided. * Accelerated Time is NOT permissible. Other Information * Once your application is approved you will receive one from our staff with instructions how to activate your VAFS account and a second with your log in information to our main site. * If you have any queries regarding applications in the meantime please contact us. Registration After reading all of the above and if you are still interested in joining, then please proceed to our main website for registration. 6

7 Flying Online When flying online on the VATSIM network place in the REMARKS or COMMENTS field of your flight plan section our website address ( for representing Korean Air Virtual. Pilots should also use the actual callsign when flying online and follow the rules of VATSIM. Flying Offline VATSIM flight is not required and you can fly offline as well. However you should always use VAFS Pilot client software when flying offline. If you fly a long haul you must fly the whole route with VAFS Pilot client software without interruption. Transferring Flight Hours We at Korean Air Virtual gladly transfer verifiable flight hours from another VA. You must supply a valid link so that we can easily verify the hours. We will not search for them. We only transfer your hours from a valid VA just once which means that we don t transfer any more hours if you want to add more hours later on. Mid-air Disconnection Flights on VATSIM The VAFS Pilot client software cannot save a flight mid-air when flying on VATSIM. When you are flying online you must fly the whole route using the VAFS pilot client software. Your PIREP will automatically be submitted by the VAFS pilot client software when you finish your flight. You can at any time submit your PIREP manually if your VAFS pilot client doesn t submit your PIREP automatically at the end of your flight. 8 Rank System As a new pilot you begin as Captain. When you gain more flight hours here at Korean Air Virtual you will go up in rank as shown below. Your current rank determines which aircraft you can fly as in real aviation. The CARGO flights however are not restricted by flight hours. For time being our ranking system is currently offline. You can as a new pilot fly any aircraft. Captain Senior Captain Command Captain Fleet Captain 0 hours 150 hours 400 hours 900 hours General Code of Conduct 1. There are times online when an experience pilot may encounter a fellow pilot who is new and is in process of learning or practicing and can be slow. Remember to be patience and show respect to the new pilot and help if asked. We were all new once! 2. It is prohibited to publish or post discriminating words and material on the forum or through the VATSIM chat box online. Any kind of disturbing behavior on the forums or online are forbidden. Individuals violating this rule will be subjected for immediate removal from Korean Air Virtual. 3. Korean Air Virtual pilots must respect other fellow pilots and prohibited to threat, abuse, harass other pilots. Individuals violating this rule will be subjected for immediate removal from Korean Air Virtual. 4. Korean Air Virtual pilots should at all time, be courteous and respectful to one another. 8

9 How to install VAFS ver 5.0 Pilot Client Software READ FIRST: To install VAFS5: VAFS5 INSTALL LINK: 1. Download the VAFS5Setup.exe 2. Run the VAFS5Setup.exe AS ADMINISTRATOR (If on win 7 or vista). 3. Locate the VAFS.exe in the install directory/vafs5 folder. 4. Right click and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR From the folder you should be able to start VAFS5 without issues. The first time you login to VAFS, click on OPTIONS then select the flight simulator you are currently running. Save and you are all set. 9
