4 Remember the childhood dream that you could fly, or that one day you might sit in the cockpit of your own plane or rocketship? It continues to be one of the most emotive, exciting and timeless aspirations for children. Our vision at FunFlight is that, Every Child Can Fly. FunFlight is a not for profit organisation established to provide children touched by adversity, with joy and inspiration through the exhilaration of flight. On select days of the year, local pilots and aero clubs become heroes in the eyes of the community and Australia s disadvantaged children. For those of us who fly as a passion, we know the joy and lasting memories that can be created through flight. FunFlight brings this unparalleled excitement to those who need it the most.

6 Calling all of Australia s pilots - Become a FunFlight Captain! FunFlight is an organisation created for and with Australia s recreational and non-commercial pilots and it is delivered through local aero clubs and their members. The FunFlight organisation is an umbrella entity that assists you and fellow aero club pilots to become FunFlight Captains, bringing joy to children in need. The same good fortune that allows us as pilots to fly for leisure is not shared by everyone in Australia. Every year, thousands of children contract or are born with life-threatening, life-shortening and terminal health conditions. Others have lost parents, suffered severe injury and more. Amongst this adversity, there is something you and your passion for flying can do for these young people and for your local community. Become a FunFlight Captain it s easy. All you have to do is share a flight with someone less fortunate from your community. Whether you can contribute one or many flights to the cause, your gift of sharing your love of flying with others will change someone s life. Fill out the application form on the website funflight.org and register to become a FunFlight Captain for your local community. FunFlight Event Manual

7 Every Child Can Fly

8 Running a FunFlight Event Holding a FunFlight event is very simple. However, FunFlight recognises aero clubs vary significantly in their resources and membership base. We understand that some pilots fly more than others and many have few member making event management difficult. The FunFlight Events Manual is aimed at assisting pilots and clubs; but is not intended to be prescriptive. There are some regulations that must be adhered to; however, so many great ideas happen locally and we want to assist each club in a way that suits them best. The Manual helps: Provide a plan for your FunFlight event Specify safety standards and procedures Ensure that FunFlight events are fun and presented in a safe format Planning checklist: Key planning ideas and considerations that have helped clubs to date: Formation of subcommittee to organise the FunFlight event Appointment of Club Captain and Event Coordinator Promotion of event within your club and community Actively seeking media coverage promotion of event and coverage on the day Regular communication with FunFlight Confirmation of numbers of passengers from each charity Consideration of special medical needs eg. wheelchairs Coordinating appropriately qualified pilots to satisfy the demand Flight coordination passenger registration, issuing wrist bands, flight timing, pilot introduction Volunteer recruitment and organisation Logistics parking, reception, marshalling, ground displays, entertainment, toilet facilities, Catering Contingency plan for adverse weather Visit the website for more details and helpful documentation.
