Looking for a place to fly (besides breakfast or boring holes in the sky)? We Floridians are fortunate in that we can fly all winter and there are some really interesting, nearby destinations. As an example, the Bahamas. If you haven t flown out there and you live here, well you should. Closer to home there is a well done WWII museum, including aircraft, at KTIX, Titusville. The Saturday market at St. Pete is a five minute walk from Alfred Whitted, KSPG (The ladies love this one). Bartow, KBOW, was a training base for P-51 pilots in WWII. In their new terminal is a small but interesting museum which commemorates that history. Kissimmee, KISM, has Warbird Adventures and an associated working museum. At X26, Sebastian, the LoPresti company has 1st Saturday, a monthly breakfast fly-in with aviation programs. And if you like KLAL, Lakeland, there is the Florida Air Museum, an amazing place. BTW if you visit the Pilot Mall at KLAL, they ll give you tickets to the museum. I hope this whets your appetite for flying destinations. What are you waiting for? See ya at the Field. 2 Page 2 Pinch Hitting Course We have an improved margin of safety when the person sitting in our right seat has some knowledge of our aircraft, how it flies, how to fly it, how to navigate, how to communicate, and get it on the ground with minimum damage. We have the help of a co-pilot when everything is normal. In the case of an incapacitated pilot, such a right-seater can save two lives. For several years there has been a Pinch Hitter course authored by ASI and offered via a DVD from Sportys. Such a course is not, however, complete without some hands-on time in an aircraft. It has been proposed to the Board that such a course be offered to FMFCers. This would involve one or more of our instructors teaching the course. It would run for approximately 8 weeks and consist of 4 hours of ground and 4 hours of air time. Ground classes would be every other week, with air time in between. Not including CFI cost, the cost would be on the order of $500 including air time. A decision on this proposal has not been reached, since we would like to ascertain the level of interest within the club as part of reaching that decision. This could be a great Christmas present for your right-seater. 5 Page 5 Avia on Study Group January 4th The Aviation Study Group will meet on Saturday January 4th in the seminar room (upstairs) at Base Ops FBO at 9 AM. The purpose of this group is to brainstorm and discuss techniques to solve IFR (and VFR) flying challenges in a scenario-based format. This is not an IFR ground school, but is an opportunity to discuss topics of interest in real life operations. The group chooses topics for discussion from the IFR Mastery Series or Air Safety Foundation quizzes as a starting point but then expand the discussion from there. CFII Nancy Moore moderates the discussions. Please bring an IPad or laptop if you use either of these for reference or flight planning. All pilots are welcome. Coffee and donuts will be available. If have any questions, please contact Ellen Herr at or elherr88@gmail.com. Board Meeting Synopsis On October 16, 2013 the board met at 6:30 at Base Ops FBO at Page Field. The club s finances continue to be in good shape. The annual Audit will be he done next month. Repairs on N944CC are underway at Sebastian Airport (X26). The club s insurance is expected to cover the costs of the wing repairs, but not the incidental charges, such as hangar rent and los of use of the aircraft. Page Field Day is November 2 and new members can join for 50% off the usual initiation fee. Volunteers are needed to staff the booth. An ipad Mini raffle will also be held. The Christmas Party will be held on December 7 and will feature several new food choices and live music. Members who attend will be asked to bring a new unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots. Bentley reports 90X tanks were topped off when not needed, instead of being only filled to the tabs. Dave Bliek presented information about a Pinch Hitter course he has previously done, and will send out more information to the members to gauge the level of interest. The course would involve 4 hours of ground instruction and 4 hours of flight time over a 2 month period. Insurance requirements and costs were discussed. A committee was formed to study the economics and utilization of 90X. This plane flies fewer hours than the club s other 2 planes, and may no longer be a good fit for the current membership. The next board meeting will be held at November 20 at 6:30 PM. Members are encouraged to contact any board member with questions or concerns about club operations.

C: On all reserva ons over 72 hours, the aircra must be flown an average of 2.5 hours per day.
