Herewith your detailed itinerary, your travel vouchers, some brochures and a map of Namibia : Arrival on flight LH 9852 at 12h00 at the Hosea Kutako International Airport. Here you are welcomed by a representative of the car rental company Camping Car Hire, who will take you from the airport to Windhoek. Collect your rented vehicle (Mazda Midge with air-conditioning) in Windhoek at the car rental company. You can spend the afternoon sight seeing in Namibia's capital. Overnight in Windhoek at the Onganga Guest House, bed and breakfast. Note: It will be most convenient, if you change money already at the Exchange at the airport. I will meet you at 16h00 at the Onganga Guest House to discuss the route with you and answer any questions you might have : After breakfast you drive south via Rehoboth, Stampriet and Gochas to Keetmanshoop. This route takes you through beautiful Kalahari landscapes of red sand dunes covered with yellow grass and camel thorn acacias. On arrival you can visit the Quivertree Forest and the Giant's Playground. You overnight just outside Keetmanshoop at the Quivertree Forest Rest Camp, bed and breakfast. Note: Petrol available in Rehoboth and Gochas : Continue via Keetmanshoop and Holoog to the famous Físh River Canyon, second biggest canyon on earth. Spend time visiting this impressive canyon. Overnight at the Cañon Lodge, situated 20km from the main viewpoint of the Fish River Canyon. Frorn here you have a spectacular view of the Canyon landscape. Accommodation here, bed and breakfast. Note: Petrol available in Keetmanshoop and at the Cañon Road House. Tip: The Cañon Lodge offers a variety of activities for the afternoon. The Fish River Canyon can also be visited the next morning : Drive west via Aus and through the Namib Desert to the coastal town of Lüderitz. Here you overnight at the Hotel zum Sperrgebiet - Sea View, bed and breakfast. Note: Petrol available in Goageb, Aud and Lüderitz.

2 : Visit the ghost town Kolmannskuppe. During the afternoon you can visit the surrounding bays of Lüderitz and Dias Cross on Dias Point just next to the old light tower near Lüderitz. Accommodation as previous day. Note: Please confirm at the hotel reception at what time during the morning the guided Kolmannskuppe Tours start : Spend the day at leisure in Lüderitz bucht. Participate in offered activities, for exarnple an idyllic boat cruise on a sailboat or enjoy the indoor swimming pool at the hotel. Accommodation as previous day. Note: Excursion can be arranged at reception : Drive inland via Aus through breathtaking landscape to the Guest Farm Landsberg, situated along road 707 in the Helmeringhausen area in the Tiras Mountains. Overnight here, full board. Note: Petrol available in Aus : Spend the day with your experienced host who will introduce you to this magnificent part of southern Namibia. Participate in the offered activities like walks and scenic drives. Accommodation as previous day. Note: Please pay for all activities directly at the guest farm in cash : Depart after breakfast and visit the legendary Duwisib Castle. Continue through beautiful landscapes to the Solitaire Rest Camp, situated at Solitaire not far from Sesriem. Overnight here, dinner, bed and breakfast. Note: Petrol available in Betta : Today it is worthwhile to rise early to experience the early rnorning at the world's highest dunes at Sossusvlei. The variety of colors and shapes are fantastic! Ordinary sedan cars can travel up to the start of the vlei, but the last 4km are only negotiable by 4-wheel-drive vehicles. Transfers into the vlei are available or you can walk, the last 4km. Visit also the interesting Sesriem Canyon. Accommodation as previous day. Note: Petrol available in Sesriem. Tranfer fee of N$50,00 per person is charged to Sossuvlei Tip: Take some lunch packs for today fromm the Guest farm : Drive via the Gaub and Kuíseb passes, through the Namib Naukluft Park, to the harbor town of Walfish Bay. Here you can visit the lagoon for unique bird-watching. From here it is not far to the charming coastal town of Swakopmund, where you overnight at the Secret Garden Guest House, bed and breakfast. Note: Petrol available in Solitaire, Walfish Bay and Swakopmund. Tip: Should you be in time for lunch in Walfish Bay, then you could enjoy lunch at the Raft Restaurant which is situated on the lagoon : After having acquired your permit from the Namibia Wildlife Resorts Office in Swakopmund, vísit the fossil Welwitschia plants and the Moon Landscape in the Namib Naukluft Park. Spend the afternoon in Swakopmund at ieisure. Accomodation as previous day. Note: Your host can explain to you where the Namibia Wildlife Office is situated : Spend the day in and around Swakopmund. Visit the National Marine Aquarium, the interesting Swakopmund Museum and the Kristall Galerie. The Kristal Galerie houses the largest known crystal cluster in the world. Accommodatíon as previous day. Tip: Good seafood can be enjoyed at the Europahof, The Tug or The Lighthouse. Ask your hostess to reserve a table for you.

3 : Drive along the coast and visit the 5eal Colony at Cape Cross. Continue via Henties Bay inland and drive via Uis to the Twyfelfontein Country Lodge, situated close to Twyfelfontein in Damaraland. Overnight here, bed and breakfast. Note: Petrol available in Henties Bay and Uis. The Cape Cross reserve only opens at 10h : Spend the day visiting the age-old rock engravings at Twyfelfontein, the Organpípesand also the Burn Mountain. Accommodation as previous day : Early departure to visit the Petrified Forest. Continue via Khorixas to the impressive Finger Rock in the Uchab valley. After a short visit you drive via Outjo to the famous Etosha National Park. Spend the rest of the day with a game drive. Overnight outside the park at the Naua Naua Game Lodge; bed and breakfast. Note: Petrol available in Khorixas, Outjo and Okaukejo : A whole day of game viewing in the Etosha National Park lies aheaei of you. Drive aiong the vast saltpan with stops at various waterholes and game viewing en route. Overnight in the park at the Halali Rest Camp in a bungalow, room only. A restaurant is available. During the evening you can spend some tirne viewing game at a floodlit water hole. Note: Petrol available in Halali. Tip: A detailed map of the Etosha Park is at the rest camps for sale : Your game drive brings you today into the eastern part of the Etosna National Park, which has a different landscape than the western part, but is not less attractive. Overníght just outside the park at the Mushara Lodge, bed and breakfast. Note: Petrol available in Namutoni. Mushara Lodge is situated only 7km from the Etosha entrance gate : Spend the day game viewing in the Etosha National Park. Visit also the fort Namutoni. Accommodation as previous day : Early departure to visit Lake Otjikoto. Continue via Tsumeb to the world's largest meteoríte on Farm Hoba near Grootfontein. Drive via Otavi and Otjiwarongo to the Waterberg Plateau Park, Spend the afternoon at leisure for hiking trails or visiting historic monuments. Overnight here at the Bernabé de la Bat Rest Camp in a bungalow, room only. A restaurant is available. Note: Petrol available Tsumeb, Grootfontein, Otavi, Otjwarongo and Bernabè Rest Camp : Early breakfast and departure to Okahandja, where you can visit the African Craft Market, well known for its woodcarvings. Continue back to the capital Windhoek, where you should return the rented vehicle not later than 12h00. A representative of Camping Car Hire will take you in time for your fiight BA 6274 at 13h50 to the Hosea Kutako International Airport. We wish you a pleasant flight! YOUR TRVAEL PARTNER FOR NAMIBIA, BOTSWANA, ZIMBABWE & SOUTH AFRICA SMALL ENJOY AFRICA TRAVEL GUIDE FISH RIVER CANYON The Fish River has eaten itaelf for a length of 161 krn into the earth and the forces of Nature - glaciers, water, extreme ternperatures and wind fashioned a canyon, the Fish River Canyon, which reaches a width of 17 km. It is reputedly the biggest in Africa and the second biggest in the world after the Grand Canyon in the USA. The deepest point is 549 m. The rocks at the bottom of the canyon are more than million years old. From its source east of the Naukluft Mountains, the Fish River flows for some 700 km to its confluence with the Orange River. SESRIEM & SOSSUSVLEI The Tsauchab River, which flows out of the Naukluft mauntains, has eroded a 30 m deep and very narr - ow canyon in conglomerate, which was settled here between 15 and 18 million years ago. î - he Sesriem Canyon itself is about 3 million years old. The steep walls are a nesting piace for many birds and the water in the canyon attracts (animals of the dessert. The name has its orígin in the time, when ox-wagons were common. Six ox ropes must have been tied together in order to reach the water in the gorge with a bucket. It is an idea] piace for hikes. About 5 km away is Sesriem. The entry gate to Sossusvlei. The same Tsauchab River, evhich forms the Sesriem Canyon, and when in flood used to reach the Atiantic Ocean, but now ends about 80 km further west in a dune valley in the Namib Uesert and forms a pictoresque dead and living pan, Sossusvlei. The pans are surrounded by huge dunes. They are star dunes, monumental piles of sand with four or five crests, rising to a height of 350 m. These dunes are supposed to be the highest dunes ori earth and they reflect rnany beautiful colors. One can drive in a 2x4 vehicle up to 5 km before the pans, Here the cars can be parked and one cari

5 Snralk to the pans. On1y 4x4 vehicles can drive furtherl The area is ideal for hikes and for photography. One can view game and you can see ínteresting desert plants. NAMIB NAUKLUFT PARK The biggest nature reserve in Africa, the Namib Naukluft Park, sprawls over neariy sq km of desert. It extends southwards from Swakapmund to Lüderitzbucht, eastwards from the Atlantic surf to the high escarpment. Within it lies the sand sea which forms the withered heart of the Namib. The bed of tne Kuiseb River bisects the Namib. To the north stretch gravel plains, except for isolated dunefiefcis, such as the one between Walvis Bay and Swakopr - nund. The "sea sand" proper lies to the south. For animals adapted to the desert, such as springbok, gemsbok and ostrich, river courses provide respite. NAMIB COAST The entire seaboard of Namibía is desert, called the Namib, which in the Nama language means a plain, with connotations of distance and aridity. One of the oldest deserts in the world, maybe the very oldest, it was already arid 130 million years ago. The greater part of the Namib lies inside Namibia, where it occupies km of Atlantic coastline. Between true desert and the ocean is a belt, about 50 km wide, where the plants and animals form a unique ecosystem. The sea off the Namib Coast is rich in nutrients, which support a large and diverse population of físh. In pursuit of fish - particularly pilchard and anchovy - come dolphíns and seals, as well as a variety of seabirds. The Namib Coast, especially the central coast, is one of the foggiest deserts on earth. The average rainfall is less than 25 mm a year. If it were not for fog, the plants and animals of the coastal desert, some of them found nowhere else, would be unable to súrvive. WALVIS BAY Walvis Bay is situated on the shores of a deep-water bay and a tidal lagoon. A sandpit with a lighthouse at its tip, Pelican Point, juts into the sea to form a natural breakwater. The ha of lagoon with its wetlands and the Kusseb River delta are a nature reserve. This coastal region is one of the most important in Southern Africa, because over bir - ds visit during the sumrner months and aver 40 bird species live here permanently. The Walvis Bay wetlands support about 42 percent of the Southern African population of greater flamingos and 60 percent of the population of lesser flamingos. WELWITSCHIA The Welwitschia Plain is situated about 40 km from Swakopmund in the Namib Desert next to road C28 in the Namib Naukluft Park. The Welwitschia plants are living fossils with the oldest specimens having been rooted in the desert almost since the time of Christ. Specimens of average size are 500 to 600 years old. The Austrian botanist Friedrich Welwitsch made some stiadies ori these plants about one hundred years ago and they were named after him (Welwitschia rnirabilis). These plants belong to the family Cycadophytina and have separate female and male plants. In their whole life Welwitschias sprout a single pair of tough leathery leaves. Blackened by the sun and torn by the w9rd, the leaves are soon reduced to a t.angle of stríps, which look like lots of individuai leaves. Welwitschias have a very short trunk (they are regarded as trees!) and they five from the nightly foq of the coast. Two species of beetles, The Probergrothius sexpunctatis and the predator Reduvius live only ori these plants. The impressive Moon Landscape ís also situated on this route ori the banks of the 5wakop River and is worth wile seeing. CAPE CROSS The Cape Cross Seal Reserve lies 128 km north of Swakopmund. A breeding colony of to Cape fur seals (Arctocephalus pusillus pusillus) live at Cape Cross, where in 1486 a navigator named Diego Cao, the first European to set foot in Namibia, erected a stone cross in honor of King John I of Portugal.

6 TWYFELFONTEIN At Twyfelfontein on the sides of one hill is the biggest collection of rock engravings in Africa. They are estimated to be some thousands of years old. The artists also left some broken pottery and theír stone implements. These engravings cannot be allocated to a certain culture of the storie age. One also finds some rock paintings This piace has been ideai because of its fountain. This area aiso has an interesting vegetation and geology. PETRIFIED FOREST The Petrified Forest is situated 42 km west of Khorixas. Here one finds huge petrified tree trunks, which could nave been swept here by glaciers or floods, but it is also possible that they grew here. The biggest trunk has a length of 30 m and a circumference of 6m. The tree trunks have reached ari age of over 260 million years. The wood was covered by mud and sand and silicate and a vacuum tight burial, during the course of time, turned them into storie. ETOSCHA NATIONAL PARK The Etosha National Park covers an area of krnq and is one of the biggest game parks in Africa. The word "etosha" means 'Great White Piace'. Etosha was declared a game park in 1907 by the German gavernor of Gerrnan South West Africa, Von Lindequist. The Etosha Pari itself covers some 4 731kmq. At its widest point it is approximately 110 km by 60 km. In the park live 114 different species of mammal, 340 species of bird have been identified, 50 species of snake are known to live here and a wide variety of plants grow in the park. The different types of landscape and the wide open spaces give this park its attraction. Animals can be viewed especiaíly near the numerous water holes. HALALI This rest camp was opened in 1967 and is the newest in Etosha. The only hills within the eastern sector of Etosha which can be closely viewed by tourists are situated in close proximity to the camp. Thie Gerrnan sofdiers operated a heliograph from the top of one of toe nearby Helio Hills to signal their comrades at Fort Namutoni. NAMUTONI Namuloni - the waterhole in the camp first came to the notice of Europeans as the p!ace where travellers John Andersson and Francis Galton camped at the time that they discovered the Etosha Pan in From 1897 Namutoní served as a control post during the rinderpest epidemic. When the epidernic abated it remained a frontier post which supervised trade with Owambaland. The fort was built during 1902 and On 4 th January 1904 about 500 Owambos attacked the fort, which was defended by only seven German soldiers. The originai fort was destroyed. It was rebuilt in the original design in 1906 when First Lieutenant Adolf Fischer taok command of the German garrison at Namutoni. He was later to become the first warden of Etosha. The beautiful fort was declared a national monument on 1950 and the camp was opened to tourists in WATERBERG PLATEAU PARK In 1972 the ha Waterberg Plateau Park was proclaimed for the purpose of breeding and maintaining populations of rare and endangered animals. Today this park is home to different endangered species, as the roan antelope, sable antelope, tsessebe, black and white rhinoceros and buffalo. In addition the only colony of Cape vultures in Namibia has been saved from extínction. Other antelope and animals of prey are found here too. Geologically, the park consists mainly of compacted layered sandstone, the Etjo formation, formed abaut 200 million years ago. The mountain is associated with an historical event of some inportance. During the outbreak of the Herero War in 1904, some heavy batilles between the Hereros and Germans took piace here. The cemetery, on the Hamakari flats at the foot of the Waterberg, is a reminder of that battle.
