3 ITINERARY DAY 1: WINDHOEK Arriving in Windhoek today you will be met at the airport and transferred on to your overnight guesthouse, for a chance to relax from the overnight flight and prepare yourself for the adventure ahead. DAY 2: WINDHOEK - SOSSUSVLEI After taking delivery of your rental car at the hotel this morning, you will then set off, heading west towards the surreal landscapes of Sossusvlei. Travelling through the scenic Khomashochland Hills and over the Spreetshoogte Pass, the landscape changes dramatically as you leave the rolling farmland behind and enter the arid red sands of the Namib Desert. Arriving this afternoon affords plenty of opportunity to freshen up and relax before an al fresco dinner beneath the stars. (B,D) DAY 3: SOSSUSVLEI An early start and a quick bite this morning allows a chance to reach Sossusvlei in time to enjoy a breathtaking sunrise across the towering dunes. Though strenuous, the walk to the top of the dunes provides some stunning views across the surrounding desert, before a return to the lodge to enjoy a hearty breakfast and a chance to soak up the tranquility of this stunning setting. (B,D) DAY 4: SOSSUSVLEI - SWAKOPMUND Another early start sees you setting off along the Namibian coast this morning, towards the delightful town of Swakopmund and the waters of Walvis Bay. Arriving around lunchtime, you should have ample time this afternoon to explore a little of this quaint German town, with its unique mix of Bavarian charm and African colour. (B) DAY 5: SWAKOPMUND Swakopmund provides a choice of exciting activities today including a chance to join a full day catamaran cruise through the waters of Sandwich Harbour. Here, against the stunning backdrop of the dunes of the Namib Naukluft National Park, which stretch right down to the shores of the bay, you can look out for seals, flamingos and dolphins. Later you will be able to make the most of Swakopmund's rich culinary mix, with dinner at one of the town's excellent restaurants. (B)

DAY 6: SWAKOPMUND - TWYFELFONTEIN Departing early from Swakopmund you'll journey through the Brandberg Mountains and along the dramatic Atlantic Coast this morning, towards the startling landscapes

4 DAY 6: SWAKOPMUND - TWYFELFONTEIN Departing early from Swakopmund you'll journey through the Brandberg Mountains and along the dramatic Atlantic Coast this morning, towards the startling landscapes of Twyfelfontein. The drive should get you to the lodge in time for a late lunch and a chance to spend the afternoon enjoying the delights of the camp and the stark panoramas for which this region is famed. (B,L,D) DAY 7: TWYFELFONTEIN Dating back over 2,000 years, Twyfelfontein (Doubtful Fountain), is home to one of the richest collections of rock art in Africa. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this remarkable region contains a treasure trove of stone-age engravings and ancient bushman artwork. Set amongst towering geological formations and depicting a fascinating assortment of elephants, giraffe, rhino, hunters and, bizarrely, seals and penguins, it provides an incredible insight into the lives of the ancient San bushmen who once lived in this area. (B,L,D) DAY 8: TWYFELFONTEIN - DAMARALAND Continuing on towards the edge of Damaraland's Palmwag Concession this morning, the next leg of the journey takes you into some of the most pristine wilderness in Namibia. The perfect base from which to explore this beautiful setting, the short drive means that you will have plenty of time to enjoy an early lunch, before heading out to explore the reserve. Options include a chance to visit one of the local villages, or perhaps enjoy an afternoon nature drive and sundowners overlooking the park. (B,D) DAY 9: DAMARALAND You have another full day here to make the most of this incredible setting. In spite of its apparently barren appearance, this region is rich in animal and plant life and one of the highlights of any visit is a chance to track rhino on foot. In the company of a highly experienced guide, you will have an opportunity to get up close and personal with these rare and majestic creatures, learning more about their lives and the work being done to protect them. (B,D) DAY 10: DAMARALAND - ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK A long drive today will bring to you one of the highlights of your journey, the vast game-lands of Etosha National Park. One of southern Africa's most expansive game reserves, Etosha can boast an incredible diversity of wildlife that includes some 340 species of birds and over 100 species of animals. There will be plenty of opportunities en route for spotting game and enjoying a picnic lunch, before arriving at your lodge in the southern part of the park later this afternoon. (B)

DAY 11: ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK Etosha is home to large herds of elephants, as well as black rhino and healthy numbers of lions and black-backed jackals.

Spend the day driving across Etosha National Park from the southern boundary of the park to the eastern Von Lindquist gate. You have plenty of time to explore the network of waterholes and looped drives along the main park road. Settle into your lodge for a free afternoon and evening. (B,D) DAY 12: ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK Your time here is free to enjoy as you please, with an excellent network of roads linking up the best game viewing areas. Driving yourself through Etosha today affords the ideal opportunity to take in the park's incredible diversity at your own pace. Alternatively, you may prefer to spend your last day here on a guided game drive. Either way, you can be assured a magical game viewing experience in the endless salt pans that characterize this extraordinary setting. Returning to the lodge later, you will enjoy a farewell dinner beneath the stars. (B,D) DAY 13: ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK - CENTRAL HIGHLANDS A final morning affords an opportunity to enjoy the sunrise and a last game drive in Etosha, before beginning the journey back south, towards the Central Highlands and Okahandja. You will have free time before enjoying a sundowner, reflective of your self-drive adventure in Namibia coming to an end. (B,D) DAY 14: CENTRAL HIGHLANDS - WINDHOEK Drive back to Windhoek today, taking approximately an hour, to drop off your hire car at the airport before catching your onward flight. (B)

6 ACCOMMODATION DAMARALAND CAMP KIPWE Nestled between vast granite boulders and looking down the Aba Huab Valley, Camp Kipwe is one of the most dramatically situated camps in all of Namibia, which, given the competition it has, is some statement. The ten rooms at this small, exclusive camp are built amongst the boulders as well, set in large dome shaped chalets with thatched rooves to help keep the lovely and cool in summer. The front of the bedroom area can be opened up to lead out onto the large terrace which is an ideal place to enjoy morning coffee, an afternoon with a good book and even a private dinner to celebrate a special occasion. The bathrooms are partially open to the elements which is a very popular feature and gives guests a real back to nature feel and the view from the bath is really something to behold. All rooms are air conditioned for guest s comfort which is very welcome, especially in the hot summer months. At the main part of the lodge there is a beautifully situated restaurant and bar area, along with a lovely swimming pool and sun deck. Activities at Camp Kipwe are varied and are focused very much on sustainable eco-tourism., including interactions with local villages and game drives to see the desert adapted animals of the area. There are also daily trips up to see the fascinating ancient bushmen rock art for which the area is so well known. EASTERN ETOSHA MUSHARA LODGE Mushara lodge is located 8km away from the Von Lindequist Gate on the Eastern boundary of the Etosha National Park making it an ideal location for an overnight stay for independent travellers visiting the game reserve. The lodge consists of 10 luxury chalets, triple and single rooms as well as a spacious family unit. The thatched chalets are situated in a horseshoe shape around the bright blue swimming pool, a major feature at Mushara Lodge, and each chalet provides plenty of space to relax and unwind. Chalets and individual rooms come fully equipped with mosquito net, air conditioning, safe, mini-bar, coffee & tea station, sockets for charging camera batteries and direct telephone connection. Wifi is available in rooms, tents and common areas. All bathrooms at Mushara Lodge are en-suite with separate toilet. Bathrooms in the chalets and single rooms have a large shower, whereas the family house and triple room provide both a spacious shower and bath. The thatched public area at Mushara Lodge boasts a private library, stocked with a collection of books for guests to read at their own leisure, an extensive bar with a wide selection of wines from the lodges own wine cellar, a spacious, airy lounge complete with welcoming fireplace for fresh winter evenings, an open dining area and well stocked curio shop. The décor of the lodge throughout consists of an eclectic blend of modern and traditional African works of art combined with other original paintings. Game drives in 4x4 vehicles are a great way to spend some time and admire the surrounding landscapes whilst on the look-out for some of the 114 mammal species and other bird and amphibian species that live in Etosha National Park. With over 100 rooms, ranging from standard bush chalets to premiere waterhole chalets, it is alot larger than the camps we usually recommend and whilst the rooms are comfortable and clean, the

7 OKAUKUEJO REST CAMP Okaukuejo Camp stands near the southern entrance of Etosha National Park, at the western end of the famous Etosha Pan. It officially opened for visitors in 1957, and is the oldest and of the three former government-run rest camps. With over 100 rooms, ranging from standard bush chalets to premiere waterhole chalets, it is alot larger than the camps we usually recommend and whilst the rooms are comfortable and clean, the service and food can be hit and miss. The prime reason to stay here is the camp's floodlit waterhole which receives an incredible amount of wildlife both during the day and at night. These animals include herds of antelope, lion, family groups of elephant and black rhino, which are seen remarkably frequently at night. Many of the camps best rooms are located around the waterhole and enjoy the finest views of this spectacle, however even if staying in the standard rooms, its great to observe the water's nocturnal visitors and their interactions with a bottle of wine after dinner. KUNENE REGION GROOTBERG LODGE Perched on the rim of the Etendeka Plateau, Grootberg Lodge commands a wonderful view down to the Klip River Valley and offers visitors a wonderful spot to spend a couple of nights, relax, enjoy the stunning views and explore the surrounding area. The lodge is made up of 14 Standard and 2 Family Chalets, all of which have rock walls and thatched rooves which help to keep them cool during the heat of the day and warm in the evenings which can get very cold. The interior of the rooms are spacious with comfortable beds, small writing desks and minimalist local decorations. Coffee stations with hot water are provided for guest s convenience. All bathrooms are en-suite with showers and all of the amenities one could wish for. Private decking areas are found at the front of the rooms and Black Eagles can often be spotted hunting below the decks which is a wonderful sight. The main lodge house the dining room and lounge area and there is also a long veranda overlooking the swimming pool which in turn looks right down the Klip River Valley and is a great spot to relax. Whilst seeing the Black Eagles coming to the lodge is a highlight for many guest, the lodge can also arrange elephant and rhino tracking excursions, guided walks on the Etendeka Plateau and visits to the local community. The lodge also boasts an excellent range of massage treatments which are very welcome after a day exploring the area. OKAHANDJA

The large swimming pool with day beds surrounding it is a popular spot to relax and there is also a small library where guests can retreat with a good book away from the sunshine. A waterhole is situated in front of the property and the decking area that overlooks it is a great spot to come and watch animals come to drink. Game drives on the farm, cultural walks to local villages and cheetah interaction experiences are all on offer for guests staying here. There are also a number of self-guided walking trails along the property which are well marked for guests looking to get out and explore on their own. SWAKOPMUND CORNERSTONE GUESTHOUSE Tucked away on a quiet residential street in the Swakopmund old town within easy walking distance of the town centre and seafront, the Cornerstone Guesthouse is an ideal choice for visitors looking for a quaint, traditional accommodation experience when staying in Swakopmund. Accommodation is split between the main house and a series of self-catering apartments, the latter of which are ideal for families or groups of friends travelling together. The main house has five double and two family rooms, all of which are spacious and well-appointed with comfortable furnishings and en-suite bathrooms. The three apartments all have three bedrooms and two bathrooms, so are comfortably able to accommodate six adults. Guests staying in the apartments can enjoy breakfast in the main house should they not wish to self-cater. The lush gardens and shaded verandas found around the property are an ideal spit to relax.
