4 $2, S SOUTHERN AICA Waterberg Plateau Game Park Enjoy one last morning game drive in search of Etosha s incredible wildlife and begin moving south to Waterberg Plateau Game Park, where you can absorb the stunning natural beauty of the area with a scenic forest walk. If you re up for it, you can get your hiking shoes on and hike up to the Waterberg Plateau for amazing views over the plains of Namibia. (B, L, D) Windhoek Head south through the countryside to Namibia s historic and strongly German-influenced capital, Windhoek. Enjoy a good shower and a break from camping, with time for some shopping and relaxation. This small, friendly city enjoys clean, dry air thanks to its highland elevation at 1,660m, and sights include the art nouveau-style Christuskirche, the Tintenpalast parliament building and panoramic views over the city from the Hofmeyer Walk. There s also plenty of opportunity to enjoy a few drinks with your group in this lively city. (B) Kalahari Continue through the eastern part of Namibia, cross into Botswana and travel into the heart of the Kalahari Desert - you ll stay in the intriguing farming town of Ghanzi. Take this opportunity to walk with a local San Bushman and learn fascinating bush survival skills. (B, L, D) Maun As you travel from the Kalahari towards Maun, you will notice the landscape change slightly as you approach more fertile lands. After arrival in Maun, you can pick up supplies and prepare for your overnight excursion into the Okavango Delta. The Okavango River flows for 1,430km (890 miles) through Angola and Namibia before entering Botswana. Here it fans out across the arid landscape before eventurally drying out due to the thirsty sands of the Kalahari and evaporation caused by the desert sun. Before it does, however, it creates a magical world of islands, channels and lagoons - the perfect place in which to immerse yourself in the African bush. (B, L, D) Okavango Delta Set off from Maun, the gateway to the Okavango, on a once-in-a-lifetime overnight excursion into the Delta. You ll travel deep into its watery depths in a mokoro (traditional dug-out canoe) spotting wildlife as you go. Arriving at your destination, the team will set up the basic bush camp that will be your home for the night. Spend the day enjoying game walks and cruising in mokoros spotting birdlife and game viewing in the pristine wilderness. When you re not out with the animals you can relax around camp, read a book or have a nap. In the evenings, count the shooting stars, sing with the locals or just unwind and enjoy a sundowner around the campfire. (B, L, D) Gweta Wake up to the African sun rising over the beauty of the Delta. Jump back in your mokoro before continuing to the village of Gweta, on the edge of the impressive Makgadikgadi pans. Here you ll enjoy a unique campsite under ancient baobab trees. (B, L, D) Chobe River Head towards Chobe National Park in the morning and set up camp just outside of the park near the town of Kasane. This is where the Chobe and Zambezi rivers meet and is home to the largest elephant population in Southern Africa, estimated at around 120,000. Take an optional game drive in the park or an afternoon sunset boat cruise along the Chobe River which will be your best opportunity to view hippo, crocodiles and wallowing elephants. (B, L, D) Livingstone, Zambia Cross the Zambezi River and continue to Livingstone where you ll spend the last few days of your tour. There s plenty to do! Get up close (and a little wet) while checking out the immense Victoria Falls, raft the white water of the mighty Zambezi, or for the more adventurous - bungee jump off a very high and scary bridge with the Falls in view. Victoria Falls, which straddles the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe, was first sighted by the explorer David Livingstone in 1855, and named after Britain s Queen Victoria. It is1.7km wide and up to one million litres of water per second tumbles down the five main cataracts. Though its character changes between the rainy and dry season, the sight of the falls is never less than awe-inspiring. (2B, L) Livingstone The tour ends this morning after breakfast, and you re free to depart at any time. If you d like to continue your African journey we have a number of tours that depart from Livingstone, either heading back into South Africa towards or travelling north through Zambia and Tanzania all the way to Kenya s capital city of Nairobi.
