6 Cycle Touring 3-5 Day Programs 1. Flinders Mawson Trail Day 1: Beginning at Melrose an introduction ride around the Historic town then camping at the Caravan Park at the base of Mt. Remarkable. Day 2: Melrose to Wirrabara 32km camping at Ippanichi camp site or bunk in at the YHA or Old School House. Day 3: Wirrabara to Bundaleer 70km with the first 25km single trails & mostly downhill then rolling hills open farmland & pine forest, camping at the Historic Curnow s Hut, Bundaleer. Day 4: Load up head for Clare to ride the Riesling Trail 27km. Load up and head for Thomas Hill Study Centre where we will camp / bunk. Day 5: Thomas Hill to Adelaide 25Km or even back to your school if possible. Great views as you come out of the hills making your decent into Adelaide. (The Historic township of Burra can be included in this tour if required.) Endurance rating: Moderate 2. Cental Hills Mawson Trail Day 1: Mt. Crawford to Bush Land Pk. Lobethal, 25km Camp facilities or Accommodation available. Day 2: Bush Land Pk. To Thomas Hill plus Cross Country Mountain Bike Track approximately 25km Camping or Bunking at Thomas Hill. 7 3. Adelaide Hills Tour Day 1: Meadows to Jack s Paddock approx 25km through back roads & forest trails in the Adelaide Hills, Camping at Jack s Paddock. Day 2: Jack s Paddock to Rocky Creek Hut approx 30km, atop the Mt. Lofty ranges with views across the McLaren Vale Vineyards & through to the Ocean. Camping at Rocky Creek Hut. Day3: Rocky Creek Hut to Meadows approx 18km & finishing at the Meadows Bakery. Endurance rating: Easy to Moderate Important note: All camps can be tailored to suit individual school requirements. With all 3 5 day programs / expeditions, a pre-camp training day(s) is recommended.

11 3 Day Geological Camp (Mt Gambier) DAY 1 - Adventure caving (Stick Tomato Naracoorte) Enjoy the excitement of the wild cave experience by donning overalls and hard hat to explore, squeeze and crawl.adventure caving tours are designed for beginners who have a sense of fun and adventure. Stick- Tomato Cave is the most suitable, as the tunnels are larger and the squeezes optional. Blackberry Cave involves smaller passages, rocky squeezes as well as several optional exercises. Overalls, helmets and kneepads are supplied, and safe caving techniques and cave protection issues are discussed prior to the start of each tour. Tours are conducted by experienced staff Camping at Mt Gambier Located on the slopes of a dormant volcano Mount Gambier services a regional population of 60,000 and is one of the fastest growing cities in South Australia. Mount Gambier enjoys a temperate Mediterranean climate, summers are mostly warm to hot, while winters are crisp and wet. With an average summer temperature of 26, while the average winter temperature is 14. Four distinct seasons break up the year with long hot summer days, colorful autumns, and cool winters to enjoy by the fire. DAY 2 - Mount Schank (Cycle from Mt Gambier to Mt Schank then to Ewens) Mount Schank is a dormant volcanic crater located in the south-eastern region of South Australia, close to Mount Gambier. The place was named after Admiral John Schank, who was actually a designer of Jame s Grant s ship.this volcano was active during the Holocene epoch or approximately 5,000 years ago. The volcano has a basic ash cone of approximately hundred metres high with the crater base extended till the water table; hence, Mount Schank doesn have any crater lakes like Mount Gambier. Afternoon Snorkeling Ewens Ponds (Bus back to Accommodation) Ewen Ponds Conservation Park consists of three large freshwater springs, each around 10 metres deep, interconnected by a series of shallow channels.unlike Piccaninie Ponds Conservation Park, famous for its underwater caves, the star attraction here is its incredible visibility up to 80 metres. In the remarkably clear waters you can spot aquatic life such as rare Ewens Pygmy Perch, galaxias and native fish hovering near the surface.while in the ponds, look for the tell-tale bubbling of the water, revealing the source of its underground freshwater spring.with the water temperature a chilly degrees, a thick wetsuit is recommended. 12 DAY 3 Kilsby Sink hole (snorkelling) morning session Kilsby's is a sinkhole situated on a farmer s property approximately 10 minutes south west from Mt Gambier. This spectacular sinkhole starts with the surface around 20 metres in diameter and a 10m drop from the surface to the water. The site contains extremely clear water allowing for virtually unlimited visibility, with the site being in excess of 60 metres deep. While snorkelling you will feel like you are flying. Sculptured and scalloped limestone walls, and a majestic and breath-taking view in the water makes this one of the best fresh water sites you could ever see a cut ramp with stairs, and 2 ladders leads down to a large pontoon at the water. 13 Mt Lofty Cruise All down!!!! We start by picking you up The driving to the very top of Mt Lofty, there you can enjoy the view and a coffee before we fit you to a Bike a 2014 Merida 650b fitted with 27 gears & Hydraulic brakes + Helmet & a safety brief. Then we will head for the designated trails recently opened by the DEWR opened up the trail network in Cleland to bikes as part of the new People and Parks strategy. This gives riders access to an extensive network of fire trails through some of the best bush in the Adelaide Hills. That s right, you can get your mountain bike good and dirty just a few km out of the CBD. Make a stop at Cleland Wildlife Park The award-winning Cleland Wildlife Park is one of South Australia's mustsee attractions. Located in a beautiful natural bush land setting, Cleland offers visitor's many memorable opportunities to discover a large number of South Australia's captivating wildlife. Many animals are free-roaming in the 35-hectare park, creating wonderful impromptu opportunities to touch and interact with our native wildlife. You can even hold a koala and have this special experience captured with a souvenir photo (fees apply). Finishing at Waterfall Gully Located in Cleland Conservation Park, Waterfall Gully is home to the largest of seven waterfalls in the park Stop for a bite to eat at the Waterfall Gully restaurant. Housed in a historic Swiss-style chalet built in 1911, it is the only restaurant in Australia set as the base of a waterfall.

14 Bushland Park (Heritage Park) Lobethal Bushland Park is one of the largest reserves of remnant bush land in the upper catchment zone of the Onkaparinga Valley. As such it provides habitat for a diverse range of flora and fauna. Rare Maiden Hair Fern and Leafy Greenhood Orchids are represented in the Park, while being absent from most of the Onkaparinga Valley area. The Native Orchid Society has catalogued 33 species of native orchid, some of which were thought to be extinct, of which the Leafy Greenhood is one. The Friends group is involved in helping preserve these orchids. During the 19th and early 20th century, before reticulated water was available to the towns in the Onkaparinga Valley, two reservoirs in a 118 hectare property supplied water to the town of Lobethal and its major industry the first reservoir in the park was completed in 1894, to serve an expanding tweed factory (The Onkaparinga Wollen Mill) and the township. The reservoir's capacity was later doubled to 15 million gallons (73,000kL). A second 'balancing' was built in The park was used as a 'mine' for its natural resources for 120 years. Since the early 1980's Bushland Park land has seen a dramatic turn-around, with active community involvement in achieving ecological conservation. Aboriginal Significance 'Bushland Park' is a very strategic central piece of Peramangk land within the Adelaide Hills region from Angaston and Macclesfield In the winter months, the Pernmangk people traditionally live in groups of twenty to sixty, gathering food for trade in the summer. They then split into family groups, where each has its own piece of land. These groups consist of an extended family up to three or four generations. Shelters are traditionally made from the bark of the Stringy Bark tree, and are occupied for four to five weeks at a time. The people purposely move around the district the help regenerate. Fire stick farming aids in this purpose by encouraging new growth following cool burns. There are many plants and animals around Bushland Park used for food, shelter and tools Peramangk people, Including Yacca - Stem of flower used to make spear shaft; soaking the flowers in water makes a sweet drink. Blue Gum - Bark of the Blue Gum for shields and shelter Bracken - Roots are crushed and washed to remove poison, then eaten as a substitute for meat. Also used to treat insect bites. Stringy Bark - Bark is moist which is good to steam food in. Also good for shelter Kangaroo - A good food source. The tendons also used as string to attach to shafts of spears

Having Thomas Hill study centre based in the heart of the trails makes great accommodation for up to 25, more can participate as camp facilities available. Endurance rating: Moderate 2. Kuipto or Mt.Crawford Forest A large range of forest trails, fire tracks & Mountain Bike Cross country trails, both forests provide excellent riding for both beginners & experienced. Plenty of great campsites available. Endurance rating: Easy to Moderate 3. Melrose / Bartagunya / Wirrabara Forest Based in the southern Flinders a network of cross country mountain bike trails has been developed by Over The Edge at the base of Mt Remarkable & on the property of Bartagunya linking into the Mawson trail. Endurance rating: Moderate to Advanced 4. Craigburn Farm Mountain Bike trails Craigburn Farm Shared Use Trails are amongst open paddocks and native vegetation in the Sturt Gorge Recreation Park. They re purpose built by Parks SA to accommodate mountain bikers, walkers, and horse riding. The trail network is quickly becoming a popular trail among the local mountain bike community. They are predominantly sandy and loamy soil, and can suffer from damage if ridden in wet conditions. Endurance rating: Easy - Moderate to Advanced 5. Eagle Mountain Bike Park The park provides a network of trails that caters a variety of mountain bike disciplines & abilities approximately 21kms of cross country trails, a specifically designed downhill trail, a skills development park, a jumps park & skills area.
