From Aspen to Snowmass, to Highlands and Buttermilk, you will see mountain-by-mountain why Colorado has earned its reputation as a perennial hotspot for winter athletes and vacationers from all over the world! 2 apa Vail Valley Program Date: Feb 25 to Mar / Destination Airport: EGE DAY 1 - Arrival Day Welcome to the Rockies! Arrival at Eagle County Airport (EGE). 8:00 am - 5:00 PM - Arrival to hotel in Glenwood Springs by shuttle. 7:00 pm - Orientation. 8:30 pm - Dinner (included). After a delicious meal it s early to bed, for tomorrow begins a huge week on the slopes! DAY 2 - Snowmass 8:30 am - Departure for Snowmass. Welcome to the slopes! Snowmass has the most vertical feet of skiing anywhere in the United States, and is best known for its wide cruiser runs and friendly atmosphere. Don t worry if you are new to winter sports! Today you ll have the opportunity to join an all-day group lesson to get yourself started on skis. (Not Included) 12:00 pm - Lunch in Snowmass Village. There are many restaurants and cafés in the village, so take a spin before you make your decision! (Not Included) After lunch it s back to the slopes! Time to employ what you have learned during the morning sessions. Try to make a few successful runs! DAY 3 - Aspen Mountain 8:00 am - Departure for Aspen Mountain. Since 1947, Aspen Mountain (called Ajax by locals) has been a top destination for winter sports enthusiasts the world over. Don t worry if you are new to winter sports! We will bring you to the training hills where you and your friends can take your time learning. 12:00 pm - Lunch in Aspen Village. There are many restaurants and cafés in the village, so take a spin before you make your decision! (Not Included) After lunch it s back to the slopes! Time to employ what you have learned during the morning sessions. Try to make a few successful runs! DAY 4 - Aspen Highlands 8:00 a m - Depart for Aspen Highlands. Welcome to the road less traveled! Aspen Highlands does not see as many tourists as the more famous ski areas, and for that is more peaceful, with more opportunities to try different runs. Experiment, and have a blast! 12:00 pm - Lunch at Cloud 9 Bistro, on the mountainside! (Not Included) Fortified with great food, feel free to pick your run and start an amazing afternoon of winter sports! Ski or snowboard to your heart s content! DAY 5 - Buttermilk 8:00 am - Departure for Buttermilk. Buttermilk is one of the big three ski areas of the Aspen complex, and is known as being the tamest of the three. Most of its runs are rated beginner to intermediate, with a few being rated at higher difficulty levels. Tame or not, the ESPN X-Games are held here! That s proof that Buttermilk is the real deal, and lots of fun to boot! 12:00 pm - Lunch in Snowmass Village. (Not Included) Grab some lunch as you please and then make your way down to the village, to peruse the shops, art galleries and common areas of the mountain. Relax a little! Enjoy this free time as an opportunity to get to know a little more about your new friends! If you hear the mountain calling your name, don t hesitate to strap in and go! 2
3 Program Date: Feb 25 to Mar / Destination Airport: EGE DAY 6 - Choose Your Own Adventure! Today is a special day in the mountains! Now that you have visited some of the greatest mountains in the area, it s going to be up to you to choose which one you d like to revisit. Belo Staff will help you get to where you want to go, so think about it and let us know! 12:00 - Lunch in Aspen or Snowmass Village. (Not Included) DAY 7 - Glenwood Springs Adventure Park 8:00 am - Depart for Glenwood Springs Adventure Park. Set at an altitude of 7,100 feet, you ll enjoy a gondola ride, rising slowly up the side of Iron Mountain to the Glenwood Springs Adventure Park entrance. Get ready to enjoy a relaxing day in the park! Do you like the underground? The park offers two guided tours into the heart of the mountain, where you will see how time and water have carved beautiful passages and formations from the limestone. Not into caves? No problem. There are several awesome attractions to try, from the Giant Canyon Swing to the powered zip line, roller coasters and laser tag, there is plenty to see and do. 12:00 pm - Meet for lunch at the Lookout Grille. (Not Included) After a week of skiing, it is time to relax. To the hot springs! Iron Mountain Hot Springs is a short walk from the park, on the banks of the Colorado River. Choose from 16 different soaking pools to rest your weary body, and enjoy retelling the most unforgettable stories from your week in the mountains. DAY 8 - Departure Day After such a wonderful week in Colorado, we will be sad to see you go! But it s not goodbye - it s see you later! The friends you have made and the experiences you have had will not fade! Belo Staff will be hard at work, helping you get to the airport to catch your flights back home. We ll shuttle you and your friends from the hotel to the airport throughout the day, wishing you well and a happy exchange year. Thank you for traveling with Belo USA! 3
4 Useful Hints MANDATORY ITEMS: ŸOriginal passport: students are not allowed to travel without a passport; ŸApproximately $105 for personal expenses during the trip, such as lunches. If you are interested in buying gifts, remember to bring a larger amount; ŸPersonal health products and medications; ŸIf you bring a credit card leave a copy with your host family. USEFUL HINTS CLOTHING AND OTHER NECESSARY ITEMS: ŸCheck the weather before you come, and make sure you pack appropriately! ŸComfortable walking shoes; ŸClothes for layering like jackets and sweaters; ŸSwimsuit (for the hot springs and pool!); ŸPants and tops; ŸSunglasses, gloves, warm hat. 5 General Conditions 1. English is the official language of this trip. 2. It is not allowed, under any circumstance, for any student to separate from the program during the trip. 3. All students must bring their original passport on the trip. However, please leave a copy of your passport with your host family. 4. Each student must submit the proper authorization forms to the Belo office 7 days before the start of the trip or their reservation will be cancelled. Students who arrive to the trip without the proper forms submitted will not be able to participate, and will be responsible for any fees associated with an early return flight. Additionally, at the beginning and of the trip, each student must depart from and return to their host community, unless the student has written permission from RYE Florida and their host family to do otherwise. 5. Belo USA Travel, Inc. is not responsible for buying any bus, airline or train tickets from the trip s final destination to your host city. It s the student s responsibility to pay for the ticket. 6. Illegal drug use of any kind is prohibited. 7. Stealing of any kind will be severely punished in addition to any possible legal consequences. 8. Purchasing or consuming alcoholic beverages is strictly forbidden. 9. Tattoos and body piercings are heavily discouraged and allowed only with the preauthorization of the natural parents and sponsor/local RYE coordinator. 10. Our schedules and itineraries must be followed by all students. The trip coordinator reserves the right to make changes in the schedule, when necessary, or if it is in the best interest of the group. 11. Lodging does not cover incidental costs, such as phone calls, mini-bar purchases, etc. If students elect to use these services, they will be held responsible for associated costs. 12. Keep luggage to a minimum. All students will carry and be responsible for their own luggage at all times. The maximum amount allowed is 50 lbs (23kg) and a carry-on bag (small bag or backpack). Remember to keep those items you will need during the day with you on the bus - like ipods, cameras, wallets, etc. 13. Students must be approved by RYE in order to travel. Students who have faced disciplinary action with RYE may be denied approval for participation. 14. All departure/arrival times from/to our activities will be decided by the coordinator, depending upon the exact length of each activity. 15. Each trip has a limited number of vacancies, which will be filled on a first-come-first-serve basis. 16. There must be at least 35 students signed up in order to run a trip. However, we may charter additional buses dependent upon demand. 17. Belo USA Travel, Inc. reserves the right to operate the trip program in reverse (i.e. switching the arrival and departure cities) if needed due to demand and availability. 18. Swimming: Even if you know how to swim, please BE CAREFUL as you are unfamiliar with the pool/places and are not aware of all potential hazards. 19. Please note that additional expenses are different for each individual. We believe that $25/day is enough for food, extra entertainment, optional items, etc., but remember to bring additional money if you are planning to buy gifts. Also remember that anything you buy will have to fit into your luggage in order to get it onto the bus and back to your host home. 20. There will be plenty of ATM machines available during the entire course of the trip in case you need to withdraw additional funds. 21. Please bring all cash in US dollars. 22. If you are not comfortable traveling with cash, Traveler s Checks are a safer option. Most banks in the US can provide you with Traveler s Checks, which are accepted at most commercial locations. 23. Travel expenses from your host city to the trip s departing airport are not included in the program fee. 24. If you take any regular medication, make sure to bring enough for the trip s duration. Also, please bring a copy of the prescription in case you need to have it, just to be safe. 25. Since we will be outside, please take care to use lotion or sunscreen. 26. If any student s conduct is considered harmful to the rest of the students, or if any student breaks any of the program rules, s/he may be sent back to their host community immediately, assuming any and all costs related to early departure. Additionally, any violation of the rules and any students removed from the program will be reported to RYE Florida. 27. All prices are in US dollars. In the case of payment by international wire transfer, the exchange rate to be considered for conversion will be the one listed by Chase Bank /JP Morgan on the day that the payment arrives to the USA. 28. All other optional activities that may be offered during student s free time are considered extra costs, and are not included in the trip price. 29. Belo USA Travel, Inc. is not responsible for the cost of the student s travel expenses from their host city to the departure point and back again. 30. Lost & Found: all student property found during the trip will be sent to Belo USA s office and kept for 60 days after the end of the trip. Any student who has lost something must send us an with the description of the lost property within 60 days of the end of the trip. Postage to return property to any student is the student s responsibility. 31. All students who take part in this trip grant image use rights to Belo USA, Inc. to produce a TRIP VIDEO, as well as use of photos from the trip on our website and program materials. 32. The TRIP VIDEO will be delivered to trip participants within six months of the trip s ending date. Belo USA, Inc. will contact students by when the video is ready. Students will be provided a link with username/password in order to view and download the video. 33. In case you do not receive an containing the link to the video, please contact Belo USA with your current address. 34. Please make any comments or complaints regarding the trip in writing (via or standard letter) to Belo USA Travel within 30 days of the end of the trip to ensure Belo USA has a chance to respond. All contracts with Belo officially end 30 days after the trip and Belo USA, the tour operator, is therefore relinquished of any responsibility. 35. Once any student requests the description of any of the trip s programs organized by Belo USA Travel Inc., the client declares to know and to agree with all the terms of these General Conditions that can be found in the trip program and on our website. CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY 36. In case we do not achieve the minimum number of participants needed, Belo USA Travel Inc. reserves the right to cancel the trip or to transfer the date and/or to offer other tour options as well, according to the client s wish. If this occurs, all payments already made will be returned in full. 37. If the student chooses to leave the program or is sent home for breaking program rules, s/he will pay a penalty according to the date of their written order to cancel their reservation, as described below: *Cancelled more than 30 days before the beginning of the trip: 10% of the trip s price *Cancelled between 29 and 21 days before the beginning of the trip: 20% of the trip s price *Cancelled between 20 and 7 days before the beginning of the trip: 40% of the trip s price *Cancelled between 6 days or fewer before the beginning of the trip: 100% of the trip s price NOTE: If a student cancels their trip, any payments previously made cannot be transferred to another student or host sibling. 38. Any student who leaves the trip during the program, for any reason, will not receive any refund. 39. A request for reimbursement due to trip cancellation because of an early return of the exchange student to his/her original country must be made to Belo USA Travel, Inc. at least seven (7) business days in advance of the trip s departure. After initial request, reimbursement will be made to a U.S. bank account and the penalties will be applied according to the Cancellation and Refund Policy above. If the student does not follow the deadline established by the program, making it necessary for us to proceed with the reimbursement via international wire transfer, all taxes and bank fees will be the client s responsibility. NOTE: In the case of a participant s early return from a trip to their home country, the cost of return airfare is the student s responsibility. 40. Any cancellations or withdrawals must be made in writing - via letter, fax or - by the participant to Belo USA Travel, Inc. 41. Belo USA Travel is not responsible for any reimbursements or change fees associated with flight or travel arrangements. Operated by: 5
