3 Local Fauna Hardhead Lilyponds Thank you Andrew Melville URGENT CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS Do you have a free morning or afternoon and would enjoy helping customers in Rangecare s recently opened op shop in Mapleton? RangeCare is urgently seeking new volunteers to join our wonderful op shop team on a regular weekly basis. Volunteers are particularly needed on Wednesdays 8.45am 12.30pm, Thursdays 12.30pm 4.15pm and Saturdays 8.45am 12.30pm. The Mapleton op shop is the first fundraising venture of this kind for our care group with all proceeds supporting local residents to remain living independently in their own homes for as long as possible. RangeCare s Volunteer Coordinator, Linda, would love to chat to you on or volunteers@brcg.org.au you are assured of a very warm welcome! IT S ALMOST TAX TIME As the end of financial year approaches, why not consider making a last minute donation to RangeCare. All donations received by RangeCare are tax deductible and are directed back to providing quality care for people living within our community. The funds are used to fill the gap where government funding may fall short. 4 Community Service UPDATE Speed through the Mapleton village medical/café precinct raised successfully at the MADCA meeting. If you support the idea of reducing the speed from 60 to 40 please register your support. or sign up at the Mapleton Community Library. Old pairs of spectacles: Thank you from Lions many donations received. All are appreciated. If you have any that you no longer require, Lions is happy to take them off your hands. They are recycled to needy communities. Glasses can be left at the Mapleton Community Library. Glasses cases not necessary. Old mobiles Lions also collecting. Money raised will go toward Lions Medical Research. Leave at Mapleton Community Library. JP service at the Mapleton Community Library: telephone to arrange an appointment. New Continuing this wee The Nambour Garden Expo is happening on 13/14/15 July this year and MADCA is in need of some volunteers to help on the Information Booths. MADCA receives a remuneration for this service and the funds are used in the Community and for the maintenance of The Old School House and gardens. Shifts are 3.5hrs to 4hrs each and there is a morning and afternoon shift for each booth for each day. Free entry and free parking on the day of volunteering. If you would like to participate this year, please contact Fay Moss or at faymoss@bigpond.com for further details. The Mapleton Information Centre needs volunteers. There are 3 regular shifts that need to be filled. Every second Monday morning 9am - 12pm, Monday afternoons 12pm3pm and Saturday mornings 9am - 12pm. If you've been thinking about volunteering but think it may be too tiring, this is the job for you. You can sit at the desk and read, do craft projects etc. If you don't think you have enough local knowledge this is the way to learn. There are always other volunteers in the Op Shop so you won't be lonely. If you are interested please call the Information Centre any Friday morning on Blackall Range Woodcrafters Guild Inc. It s on again, the very popular Wood Expo at the Montville State School Assembly Hall on July 7 and 8, 9am to 4pm. The Expo is conducted by the Blackall Range Woodcrafters Guild and admission will be FREE. Pieces created by Guild members will be on display; many for sale and some for judging purposes only. The school is kindly making the sporting field available for parking, weather permitting of course. Mapleton Bowls Club Dinner nights Friday: 29 June. Costs are from $10 to $14, we have ten raffles and a ditch board offering 3/4 prizes. Have a night out, meet friends and make new friends Probus Club of North Blackall Range Inc meets on the second Friday of each month for Fun, Fellowship and Friendship. Come along and join the group. Friday 13 th July: The speaker will be Gordon Ferguson the Scottish Piper, relating the interesting paths in life opened by his piping and perhaps entertaining us with a little performance. 4

5 Friday, 10 th August: An informative session by a lawyer about Retirement Living Options. The focus of the talk will be on common issues that arise for residents of retirement villages and manufactured home parks (over 50 s resorts). Attendees can expect to learn about documents and contracts, fees and charges, maintenance responsibilities, and questions to ask before signing on the dotted line. Can we request that any community members who wish to join us as guests at any meeting contact us at or nbrprobus@gmail.com for catering purposes. Meeting fee is $6 including a great morning tea.
