1 MARCH 2018 BROADBAND UPDATE HIGHLAND Latest figures from independent broadband website thinkbroadband. com give an overview of the progress for the local authority area so far. Also of the coverage still required. Around 79% of homes and businesses can now access superfast download speeds of 24Mbps or above. THE ROLL-OUT OF A FIBRE OPTIC BROADBAND NETWORK IN HIGHLAND IS PART OF A 410M INVESTMENT BY DIGITAL SCOTLAND PARTNERS. IT S BEING LED IN THE HIGHLANDS AND ISLANDS BY HIE. The roll-out has been designed to reach the most premises possible within the contract budget. When combined with commercial roll-out of services, there will be fibre coverage for around nine out of ten homes and businesses this year. HIGHLAND SUPERFAST AND FIBRE COVERAGE SUPERFAST 24Mbps+ 79% In Highland the project has built new core fibre network which provides the backhaul or capacity necessary to then build the local infrastructure to get communities connected to better broadband. More than 365 fibre cabinets have been built and are live through the project reaching more than 80,000 premises which would not have been reached otherwise. HIGHLAND SPEED TEST RESULTS (MBPS) Estimated Maximum Mean Download Speed: 37.1Mbps This figure is based around everyone buying the fastest Virgin Media, KC or Openreach product available to them, based on current product availability. Distance limitations of ADSL2+ and VDSL2 are factored into the calculation Mbps 14.6 Mbps 9.8 Mbps 4.9 Mbps 0 Mpbs Q Q Q Q Q Q Superfast UK (>24 Mbps): 79.64% Superfast EU (>30 Mbps): 78.23% Ultrafast (>100 Mbps): 0.44% Openreach (>30 Mbps): 78.23% Openreach FTTP: 0.44% Openreach G.fast: 0.00% Below 2 Mbps down: 4.84% Below 10 Mbps down: 15.95% Below 10 Mbps, 1 Mbps up: (Legal USO) 16.03% Below 15 Mbps: (High Speed Broadband) 17.85% Virgin Media Cable: 0.00% Full Fibre (FTTP or FTTH): 0.44% Fibre partial/full at any speed: (FTTC/VDSL/G.fast/Cable/FTTP) 91.63%

2 thinkbroadband figures indicate that superfast broadband speeds of 24Mbps download or more are now available to order for around 80% of Highland premises. Additional homes may be able to benefit by moving to the fibre network with improved, but lower than superfast speeds. Customers in areas where fibre has rolled out are reminded that they won t be moved to fibre services automatically. They can order through Internet Service Providers. You can check if fibre is available and get an indication of speed on the Digital Scotland checker at A full list of areas with fibre is available in the Appendix.
