2 UNIQUE SETTING A Secluded Hideaway Brada Lodges is an exciting new development of luxury holiday lodges near the village of Bamburgh. Nestled in an old quarry, the site looks over fields to the castle. Our three bedroom detached lodges are ideally located for exploring Bamburgh and Northumberland s heritage coast. THE The Lodges have been designed to harmonise with their quarry backdrop. Floor to ceiling windows maximise natural light. High levels of insulation and heating provision will ensure a cosy stay. Green features include external lime render, cedar shingle and sedum roofs, woodburner and solar hot water. High quality materials including Karndean floors, self-coloured render and natural wood external features have been fitted, with good looks and low maintenance in mind. Freehold title and owner-friendly site management structure are intended to offer good value and hassle-free ownership. HOLIDAY LETTING We welcome subletting and anticipate owners wanting to derive an income from their lodge, as well as having a holiday house of their own. The lodges are sold freehold, and the management fee is pegged at cost plus 15%. We will be offering a letting and marketing service as required.

Brada is in a great setting, with the high quality lodges built on site as an alternative to traditional homes, prefabricated lodges or static caravans, typically used for holidays. GATED ENTRANCE The secure entrance is looked over by the reception lodge from where our management team take care of the site. Access to the woods and hill is through a key-coded gate. THE GROUNDS The landscaped areas will be maintained via a maintenance agreement. The quarry top is now a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest, with many rare species of flora associated with whin sill grassland. 5 SEASIDE VILLAGES Coastal Location Our lodges are in an ideal location for exploring the stunning Northumberland Heritage coastline. Lindisfrane National Nature Reserve Holy Island N PERFECT HOLIDAY HOME LOCATION Brada Lodges offer a great base for holiday makers. It is only a short walk down to Budle Bay, part of the Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve and popular with bird watchers. Look across the bay and you can see Holy Island. The picturesque village of Bamburgh is only a couple of minutes drive. The magnificent castle perched on the rocks, overlooks the beautiful unspoilt sandy beach. It has a good selection of cafés, pubs and restaurants with the local butchers famous for the Bamburgh Bangers. Further along the coast is the busy fishing town of Seahouses, offering boat trips to the Farne Islands and has many Fish and Chips eateries. East Coast Main Line Craster TRAVEL LINKS Brada Lodges is only a few minutes drive onto the A1 with Alnwick, Morpeth and Newcastle upon Tyne to the south, as well as Berwick, the Borders and Edinburgh to the north. 6 THE HISTORY OF Brada Quarry The Laidley Worm of Spindlestone Heugh by Walter Crane 1881 Brada Quarry is part of the famous Whin Sill which includes the Farne Islands and the rock on which the fortress of Bamburgh Castle is built. Whinstone is a very hard impermeable igneous rock and was quarried at Brada for some 300 years on a small scale, until the majority was blasted from the hill and crushed during the 1930 s and 40 s by Rolmac up to 52,000 tonnes in The last stone was removed in the early 1970 s and subsequently the family, who currently own Brada, started using the quarry as a sheltered place to lamb 800 ewes. Below are pictures of the quarry before work commenced on Brada Lodges, you can see the powderhouse (bottom left) and the mill crushing area (bottom right). BRADA S LIGHT RAILWAY The first official reference to Brada Quarry is in April 1935 when a new crushing and screening plant was installed. A 2ft 0in gauge rail system was built to transport small carts full of uncrushed whinstone, from the quarry face, to the top of a rope-worked ramp, up to the crusher at the east end of the site. This was operated by two Lister 4 wheel petrol locomotives. Locomotive working was abandoned in 1944 and trucks were subsequently moved by hand. According to quarry records, the locomotives were here only until 1948, but at least one is known to have remained until The picture below shows the workers at Brada Quarry. In the background you can see the tub which was used to carry the rock. In 1881 Walter Crane painted his picture The Laidley Worm of Spindlestone Heugh from the Fairey Hill adjoining Brada. This famous painting tells the epic saga about one of the North East s famous worms or dragons. This beast devastated the countryside. It lived in Spindlestone Heugh or crags, less than 500 yards from Brada. One day a gallant knight, hearing of the terror that the dragon was causing, landed from his ship in Budle Bay. After a fierce struggle, he defeated the creature, where upon it turned into his long-lost sister, who had been abducted by witches years before and transformed into a loathsome dragon. The witches are depicted dancing round a fire on the top of the hill. After the fight, the gallant victor is seen riding off with his sister towards Bamburgh castle. RJV.aditnow.co.uk
