7 GPMC is well represented in Charity Rally When the Ohio Valley 700 charity rally took off from the AACA Museum in Hershey on September 30, four teams with ties to the Greater Pittsburgh Mustang Club were in the field. Organized by Rally North America, the Ohio Valley 700 is a scavenger hunt style automotive event that stretches through four states. Teams raised money ahead of the event to determine their starting spots. Altogether, the 52 teams in the rally raised over $25,000 for CURE: Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy. The GPMC teams that took part in the OV700 were: Team Coyote, Mark & Charlyn Mulkey; Team Pony Power, Rich & Lisa Fricke; Team 911, Bill & Valjean Rossmann, and Team Miser Brothers, Tim Baker and Danielle Smith. The rally started on a rainy Friday morning with teams getting an early morning tour of the Antique Automobile Club of America Museum in Hershey. Once the first clue card was received, teams roared off to CJ Pony Parts to snap a photo and get the rest of the route. The group decided to eat breakfast at a local diner and solve all the clues during the meal. The route for the day consisted mainly of a drive along the Lincoln Highway with such extra items to find as roadside murals, neon signs, and live bison! Despite the rainy weather, the group moved right along, snapping photos of a nearly 200 year old toll house near Chambersburg, a haunted hotel in Everett, and finally the Flight 93 Memorial near Shanksville. The day ended at the WISP Resort in McHenry,MD. Day 2 saw the group head south from Maryland into West Virginia, with checkpoints that included a train station, a waterfall, a courthouse, the highest point in West Virginia, and the world s largest steerable radio telescope while looking for items like historical signs, railroad crossing signs, Mail Pouch Tobacco barns, log buildings, and Civil War battlefield markers. The highlight of the day was the drive down WV Route 72, from the Tucker County Courthouse to the Seneca Rocks Discovery Center. Featuring switchbacks and hairpin curves, the drive was spectacular! The day finished at the Snowshoe Resort in Snowshoe, WV, a ski resort that sits at the top of the mountain. Day 3 began with a run down the mountain to find food and gas. At this point, since the other teams were heading home early, Team Miser Brothers took off on its own to chase the checkpoints and scavenger hunt items. The route included a triple waterfall, a couple of Civil War sites, a hokey roadside stand called the Mystery Hole, the West Virginia state capitol building, and the Mothman statue in Point Pleasant, WV before ending in Athens, OH. Scavenger hunt items for the day constituted additional checkpoints like an old Company Store, abandoned buildings, and a few red herrings! Unfortunately, Team Miser Brothers was one minute late in checking in to the hotel and missed out on a possible award! The teams had a terrific time driving some fantastic roads and most importantly, helped raise over $25,000 for epilepsy research. Next year s rally has not yet been announced, but details are leaking out. It will be in July and will run through the Appalachian Mountains, starting near Beckley, WV and finishing in Rome, GA. Rally North America is a not-for-profit organization that combines the automotive hobby with charitable endeavors to raise money for specific chosen charities each year. Over its seven years of rallying, Rally North America has raised over $620,000 that has been donated directly to the chosen charities. Thank you! Tim the Tour Man November 2016 Page 6 of 14

8 All the news we can find! Huttons make the Mustang Times again Check out the Brick! After last year's Fall Foliage Tour stop at Al Zamba's car collection, GPMC bought a brick at the AACA Museum in Hershey, PA in Al s honor. While Tim the Tour Man was out and about (when does that ever occur?), he took this picture of the brick during his visit to the museum A Short Editorial Carol and I want to complement Tim the Tour Man for an excellent Fall Foliage Tour. Great route with the interesting twist at the end where the two groups passed each other on the second leg. Great imagination Tim; you can tell you enjoy planning these trips for the members of the GPMC. Scott U., Newsletter Editor Tim the Tour Man s Activities Round-Up - Activities Update for November, 2016 Tim says there is no report for this month; however, he reminds us that the Holiday Party is next on the list!
