A Message From Your Chairman Dear Fellow Members, Welcome to the 2019 rally season. I am looking forward to a busy year with a full rally programme with both winter and summer events and hopefully the weather will be just as kind as it was last year. I thank the retiring Chairman David Brown and Graham Morris and Mac McArthur for their sterling efforts with the Newsletter and Website. I welcome our new Committee Members Andy, Julie, Geoff and Veronica and thank Newsletter Editor Paul and Webmaster Mike for coming on board. The winter programme is in full swing now with two breakfasts, a Christmas coffee morning, skittles and New Year dinner - thanks to Glenys. Don t forget to put all the dates in your diaries! We have a new rally site this year at Bierley, together with some old favourites, and thanks must go to Ken for all his hard work in arranging the summer programme. As your new Chairman I am looking forward to working with all the Committee in keeping the IOW Centre running to serve our Members. This year`s National will be at Ragley Hall at Alcester in Warwickshire and is well worth attending. We ourselves are booked in with tickets for the evening entertainment of ELO and ABBA tribute bands (I have my ear defenders ready in the motorhome!) and there are plenty of other things going on to keep young and old entertained. Wishing you all a very happy rally season and look forward to meeting you at the rallies and our winter events. Regards, Jeff Johnson 3

THE SOUTH WEST REGION What s it all about? The Isle of Wight Centre is one of ten Centres that comprises the South West Region. Each of those ten Centres has two representatives that attend the Regional Council once every quarter. The aims of the Regional Council are as follows :- To represent you, the members, by raising any points of view that you may have at the Club Council To provide a forum to discuss and solve local problems at regional level It is sometimes necessary to seek advice from the Exec. Committee or the staff at East Grinstead. This means that every member of the Club can use the Regional Council to access all levels of the Club s management structure. Your South West Region representatives this year are: Jeff Johnson & David Lumley Thank you to all our advertisers. Please inform them when using their services that you saw their advert in this publication. We really appreciate your support. 29
Could you be a Rally Marshal? So that we may enjoy our rallies to the full we need Rally Marshals to help run them. We hope that the following guidelines will help you to decide that supporting the Centre in this way is well worth doing. If you feel that you can help us in this way, please contact our Rally Secretary, Mr. Ken Bolton ( ). Please remember it s your rally and you can make it as simple or as complicated as you wish. It is not a competition to see who can make the biggest rally. Whatever you plan, you can be assured that the Rally Secretary or any Committee Member will be willing to help and offer any advice that you may need. THE EQUIPMENT Rally signs: Flag and pole: Other signs: Pitch markers: These need to be erected as they direct members to the site. Not always required on a commercial site, but it will help members to find you on a large site. Dogs on lead, Rally Office, 5mph, need to be displayed Normally only required on green field sites where a large number of vans are expected. (6 metres apart) The tea box: Most important, this contains the tea, coffee, teapot kettle, and bell. Some of these items are usually passed from rally to rally but if that has not been possible the Rally Secretary will be holding them. Other items of equipment include the marquee, generator, heaters, urn, and tables. These are stored in the trailer which we can always arrange to be towed to the site. 30
PRIOR TO THE RALLY You will need to acquaint yourself with the site. This will enable you to plan the siting of the vans and know where the fresh water and Elsan points are. When siting vans please remember the 6 metre rule. You will also need to check the tea box for provisions including milk and biscuits, and if you are going to use the generator you will need to check that there is enough petrol. You will be provided with a rally sheet and centre envelopes showing the members attending and the fees they need to pay. If you are not sure how to do the paperwork please ask the Treasurer or any member of the Committee, who will be pleased to help. NOW FOR THE RALLY Arrive in plenty of time to get yourself sited preferably by the entrance to the rally so that people may see you as they arrive, check the equipment, get the signs out, peg the field out if needed and get the flag up. Then make yourself a cup of tea or coffee, whatever you prefer. As members arrive give them your programme for the rally along with the brown envelopes showing them the payment required. Unless you ve made any special plans for the rally such as competitions, games or any other entertainment, you can now relax and enjoy the rally. At the end, pay the site owner and give the balance of payments collected to the Treasurer, along with any receipts showing what you have spent. FLAG A lot of people are confused by the term Flag, but all it refers to is the closing of the rally. As Rally Marshals you will need to provide tea, coffee and biscuits, thank the people for coming and give out the results of any competitions that you may have run. The Rally Secretary may have something to announce regarding future rallies followed by the Chairman or a Centre Officer thanking you most warmly for organising such a perfect rally. 31
RALLY INFORMATION Rallies take the form of weekend gatherings of both caravan and motorhome owners who have a common interest in their hobby. Members are not organised but are free to relax and join in as they wish. All members are cordially invited to attend any rallies in this booklet or those shown on the Centre website. Rallies can be booked online by visiting the Centre website or by contacting the Rally Secretary - Ken Bolton on Any unavoidable late alterations or cancellations will be notified either by phone or . Only those that have booked will be notified. Unless otherwise stated rallies will start at 16:00 on Friday and close at 14:00 on Sunday. If you wish to arrive early please check with the Rally Marshals beforehand that it is convenient for them and that they will be available to see you on to the site. As a matter of courtesy and to comply with insurance requirements it is important that rally-goers do not arrive on site prior to the designated time. Please be aware that if, for any reason, you do arrive on site before the Rally Marshals you may be asked to re-site your van. Water will be available on or near the site. However, Members are advised to have an overnight supply on arrival, particularly if arriving late. Your own sanitation will be required at all rallies. Where possible a disposal point will be arranged. You will need to take your dry litter home, including bottles, cans and kitchen waste unless the rally site provides refuse facilities. The speed limit on the rally field is 5 mph. Please watch out for anyone walking or playing between caravans and motorhomes. 32
RALLY CODE OF CONDUCT The Committee wishes to see the Isle of Wight Centre maintain a very high standard of Caravanning and Motor Caravanning and has drawn up the following Code of Conduct. 1. RALLY MARSHALS These are appointed by the Centre Committee to take charge and be responsible for the organization and conduct of the Rally. Members are therefore asked to comply with any request of the Rally Marshal concerning the running of the Rally. In particular, all members are asked to report to the Rally Marshals upon arrival at the Rally site. This also applies to friends and relatives visiting you at the Rally Site. 2. MEMBERS are requested to co-operate with the Rally Marshals in the placing of their van and towing vehicles on the pitch as indicated. 3. THE CENTRE has a policy of no place saving, to make the task of the Rally Marshal easier. If you wish to be together, then please arrive together. 4. THE CENTRE COMMITTEE reserve the right to refuse the use of a site to any Member or to request any Member to remove his / her Caravan or Motorhome from the site. 5. TENTS are not normally permitted at Centre Rallies. The only exceptions are toilet tents or pup tents to be used by children or grandchildren of ralliers. 6. DOGS & CATS are welcome when kept under control of a responsible person at all times during a rally. Whilst on the rally site pets must be kept on a lead. It is always desirable to exercise pets well away from vehicles. Normally the field perimeter should be used for their natural functions and they should always be cleaned up afterwards. Failure to observe this simple request can cause ill feeling amongst members. 33
34

Never be without a fire extinguisher, fire blanket and a first aid kit. 8. RESPECT Do not cause annoyance to other Ralliers with unnecessary noise or by loud playing of radios, TV s etc. 23:00 is considered late enough to end all noisy activities. 9. COMPLAINTS Any Centre member finding dissatisfaction on any matter, should submit their complaint in writing to the Committee through the Centre Secretary. 35
