1 Fundraising Olde Watermill Classic Car Show, Barton Luton Someries Classic Car Rally, Pulloxhill 21 Aug 2016: publicity; exhibitor parking; car parking; judging and awarding trophies; OSCAR road safety car; barbecue (run by Barton Scouts); gazebo as Rotary showcase. After protracted chasing (and a formal letter), proceeds of 463 received, split Volunteers helped out with car parking on 14Aug2017. Took place on Sunday 20 Aug 2017 but neither request nor proposal to participate this year. Instead, help out at Someries Classic Car Rally (see below). Eight volunteers provided to help out on Sun 13Aug2017. Event raised 4,200. Hexton Playgroup Assistance with funding applications. Gastro Quiz, Silsoe 12 Nov 2016; ticket price 12; meal 11 Nov 2017; in aid of SSAFA sponsored, other sponsors Forces Help, Cancer Hair Care 25; 26 raffle prizes; 84 participants, 14 and Primrose Unit at Bedford teams; 1,215 raised; beneficiaries - Hospital. Sponsors sought. Shelterbox, TFSR, Carers in Beds., 13 club plus 12 from Luton clubs; Jill Doggrell, Luton Chiltern Inner Wheel; Mandy Bromwich at Olde Watermill; Liz Miller of ie,, Howard, Myles,, Cliff & Jan - Paul, Derek, David B, /Howard (scoring) Santa s Sleigh, Barton Licence obtained for Sat 10, Tue 13, Thu 15, Sat 17 and Mon 19 Dec Raised 2, (a new record). Barton Players (BP) theatre group Murder Mystery evening Barton Senior Citizens lunch St Nicholas Christmas Tree Festival Bond theme: 'Diamonds Are For Trevor' at Barton Village Hall, Thu/Fri 27/28 April BP booked hall, looked after publicity and ticketing (on sale via BP 12), arranged catering (cold buffet) and ran bar (retaining proceeds). RBC helped distribute flyers, served interval tea/coffee, and contributed raffle prizes. BP to donate 400 to RBC for TFSR. 16Sept2016, 54 attended, same entertainer as last year. Polio: offer 100 crocuses per 5 donation, raised 125. Applied for licence for Tue 12, Sat 16, Tue 19, Thu 21, and Sat 23. April Simon Andrew, James, Barton Players Fri 15Sept hall and entertainer booked. Cost met from Co-op funding (see below). Arnold School choir (7 pupils, 2 teachers) and Barton Co-op (2 ladies) attending. Publicised in Barton newsletter. 47+ guests. 2 Christmas tree, Barton Barton Christmas Lights Tree erected 5+6Dec2016, lit and topped with Rotary roundel; dismantled 5Jan2017. Talk by Abby Miller 21Mar17, after which Club agreed to pledge funding. > 5k raised so far. Consider alternative location, in association with Barton Christmas Lights. 8k deposit paid on lights, 17k cost in all. Club sponsoring lights on trees outside 600, and supporting pre-launch events, incl. switch-on and street party Sun 26Nov2017 (Club doing hot chestnuts). Plant a Tree for Rotary Aim: to plant at least one tree per Rotarian. Proposal for Districtsponsored wood at Marston Vale. Possible project in 100 for 50 trees. Technology Tournament KidsOut at Whipsnade Barton school project Support Programme for Disadvantaged Schoolkids Fri 3March17; 9 clubs, 12 schools and 38 teams involved. Took place 14 June club contribution from Co-op funding (see below). Escorted Sundon Junior School. Thu 8March2018. Plans to extend to primary schools (eg. at Ramsey Manor Lower and Orchard School, Barton, and Silsoe Lower School). Successful application to Co-op Local Increased funding will allow talks Fund towards cost of on Space to whole school during taking 30 disadvantaged kids to Enrichment Week plus additional Chislehurst Caves on 16Jun2017. trips by smaller groups to other Awarded and received 2,302! 3 Tools For Self Reliance Shelterbox (including Refugee Crisis) Grahamstown, South Africa: community support school gardens End Polio Now Project completed in August2016. Final report submitted. 250 District grant (matched by Club) received to refurbish toilets. Ongoing support for RI programme for eradication of polio, including 255 of 15,000 crocuses, and offer of 100 per 5 donation ( 342 raised). planting took place in Silsoe (22-24 Oct 2016) and Harlington (29 Oct). Club's contribution of 597 enhanced by Gates multiplier equates to 1,791, enough to immunise 8,955 children. DG's Purple4Polio Challenge: recipes sought for BRC book of recipes to be club contribution (matched by 425 District grant - final paperwork signed off) towards electricity supply. Request for further support in the form of educational material; responded with 10 suitcases full (mainly from Orchard School).
