1 Spring & Summer Program Guide S P R I N G & S U M M E R Welcome The snow has melted, the flowers are blooming, and the sunshine is lasting a little bit longer. That means it must be spring! And summer is just around the corner. So what better way to celebrate the seasons than by getting outdoors in one of our nineteen parks. Or maybe you ll want to participate in one of our many programs and events. We also look forward to seeing you at the Pinewood Pool this summer. All Ages Saturday, April 23 Time: 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM Location: Three Arches, 335 Trenton Road Cost: Free Annual Earth & Arbor Day Celebration: Join the Parks and Recreation Board as we give back to the community and environment. During the afternoon we will plant flowers and mulch our garden. We will also clean up our Falls Township Dog Park. And nature inspired arts & craft project will entertain children please bring a recyclable object and turn it into a wonderful work of art. All Ages Sunday, May 1 Time: 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Location: Falls Township Community Park, Phase II Pavilion Cost: Free Family Fun Night: Join us for an evening of family friendly entertainment. Various performers will take center stage and entertain the crowds. The first performer will last from 6:30 to 7:30 and the second will perform from 7:30 to 8:30. All Ages! Bring your owl rod & reel. Register in advance or the day of. Registration forms can be obtained through Falls Township Parks & Recreation or Bart s Tackle in Tullytown. Ages: 2 to 15 Saturday, June 4 Registration Time: 7:00 AM Event Start Time: 8:00 AM Location: Falls Township Community Park, Phase II Lake Cost: Free Teen Start of Summer Party: School is almost out for summer, so why not start celebrating- in between studying for your exams, of course! Bring your friends and have a blast with music, games, and free food! 4 P A G E 4 Youth Programs Young Rembrandts Drawing Class: Combines the best of both worlds foundational art skills in a fun, nurturing environment that gives your child the academic advantage. All materials are provided by Young Rembrandts and new lessons are taught each week. Ages: 6-12 Tuesdays, April 19-June 7 Time: 6:30-7:30 PM Location: Room 201, Falls Township Municipal Complex Cost: $80 Residents, $90 Non-Residents Cartooning for Teens: Our most popular class is back! During this 8-week session you will: Create new cartoon characters, Draw action, movement and sound, Draw expressions and convey moods, and Develop a series of drawings to tell a joke. Ages: Tuesdays, April 19 June 7 Time: 7:45 PM 8:45 PM Location: Room 201, Falls Township Municipal Complex Cost: $80 Residents, $90 Non-Residents Mommy & Me Tea: Mom and child will work together to create a Mothers Day keepsake and then enjoy a tea party. 5 S P R I N G & S U M M E R Youth Programs Herpetology (Reptiles & Amphibians) This new program is taught by an Environmental Education Specialist from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources at the Falls Township Community Park. We will hike around the park in search of the many reptiles and amphibians found in and around the lake. We will learn what makes these animals different from others, and what important roles these critters play in the environment. Grades: K-5 Sunday, May 1 Time: 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM Location: Falls Township Community Park, Cost: $5 for Residents, $8 for Non-Residents Trash to Treasure: P A G E 5 Each week will turn an ordinary object into something you ll treasure. Participants may be asked to bring in items such as: egg cartons, coffee cans, or paper towel rolls. Ages: 2-5 Saturdays, May 14 to June11 (no class on May 28) Time: 9:30 AM 10:30 AM Location: Room 210, Falls Township Municipal Complex Cost: $20 Residents, $32 Non-Residents Remember Pre-Registration is required for all programs unless otherwise noted. 6 P A G E 6 Teen Programs Certified Babysitting Course: Just in time for those summer babysitting jobs, the Red Cross will provide the necessary instruction you need to land your first babysitting job. The course is one full day so please pack a lunch. Teen Trip to Sahara Sam s: Enjoy your day off from school by sliding down Mount Kilimanjaro or relax in the Congo Bongo Adventure River. Remember to bring a towel and extra money for lunch. Teen Trip to Bounce U: We ll meet at Bounce U for their Teen Night and bounce the Friday night away. Ages: 11 to 15 Session I: May 14 Session II: June 18 Time: 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Location: Room 201, Falls Township Municipal Complex Cost: $55 Residents, $80 Non-Residents Ages: Thursday, April 21 Time: 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM Depart from Falls Township Municipal Complex Parking Lot Cost: $35 Ages:13-17 Friday, May 20 Time: 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM Location: 2221 Cabot Blvd, Suite 3, Langhorne, PA Cost: $10 Adult Programs Boating Safety Course: This one-day beginner boating class will give you the knowledge needed to obtain a boat license or safety certification in many states, except NJ. Topics will include but are not limited to: boating law, boat safety equipment, navigation, trailering, and much more. At the end of the course there will be a 50 question test. All course materials are provided by the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. Please bring your own lunch, writing utensils, and notebook/paper for notes. 7 S P R I N G & S U M M E R Adult Programs Yoga Taught by Jackie Jackson our Yoga program great for beginner and intermediate levels. Yoga is a complete mind and body workout. Please bring your own mat and dress in comfortable clothing. Ages: 16 and up Session I: Mondays, April 4 May 9 (no class April 25) Session II: Mondays, May 16 June 7 (no class May 30) Time: 7:00 PM 8:30 Location: Falls Township Senior Center Cost: $60 Residents, $70 Non-Residents Country Line Dancing P A G E 7 Country Line Dancing is a social line dance style and does not require a partner. During this eight week program you will learn basic steps (grapevine, chasse, weave and shuffle step) and how to incorporate them into line dances. Ages: 18 and up Mondays, April 18 - June 13 (no class May 30) Time: 7:00 PM 8:00 PM Location: Phase II Pavilion, Falls Township Community Park Cost: $55 Residents, $65 Non-Residents Adult Meet Up Groups Walking: The benefits of walking are many, so get out there, get active and socialize. Weekdays 12:00 PM-1:00 PM or Weekends 9:00 AM-10:00 AM Location: Phase I Pavilion, Falls Township Community Park Dog Park: Looking to socialize while spending time with your dog? So are many others. Tuesdays 5:30 PM 6:30 PM Or Sundays 3:00 PM-4:00 PM Location: Dog Park, Falls Township Community Park Book Club: As a group you will decided which books to read and discuss. Light refreshments will be served. First Wednesday of Each month (beginning in Oct)7:00 PM-8:00 PM Location: Room 201, Falls Township Municipal Complex Most Ages Program Kayaking: The class is taught by an Environmental Education Specialist from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Learn kayaking basics and some wildlife identification while exploring our 70 acre lake. Lifejackets, one and two person kayaks, and paddles are provided. 8 P A G E 8 Summer Concert Series All Summer Concerts are held at the Falls Township Community Park, Phase I Pavilion, 9125 Mill Creek Road, Levittown, on Sundays from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The Summer Concert Series is a free event and open to the general public. Please bring your own chair. All Teen Dances cost $3 and are held from 7:45 PM to 10:30 PM. Thursday, June 23 Thursday, July 21 Thursday, August 4 Senior Breakfast: A favorite morning for those 55 years and up. Enjoy a continental breakfast, catch up with friends, and take a dip in the pool. Saturday, July 16 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM Cost: Free (open to the general public) Family Picnic: Pinewood Pool Members and their guests will be entertained by DJ Dana and Otto the Clown. Sunday, August 28 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM Cost: Free to members Pinewood Pool Movies All movies are held on Saturdays at the Pinewood Pool and begin at sunset. Movies are Free to the members. For the general public movies are $3 per individual or $10 per family (immediate family only). Please bring your own chair or blanket. 9 S P R I N G & S U M M E R P A G E 9 Pinewood Pool Membership We are currently accepting applications for 2011 Pinewood Pool Membership. The Pinewood Pool is fully handicapped accessible, has a one meter diving well, has two tube water slides, and has lockers and showers. Please visit our website or call the Parks & Recreation for an application. Opening Day- Saturday, May 28 Closing Day- Monday, September 5 Please see application for hours. Membership Rates: By April 1st- Family: $200 Residents, $325 Non Residents Individuals: $110 Residents, $225 Non Residents Senior Citizens: $60 Residents, $80 Non Residents After April 1st- Family: $220 Residents, $345 Non Residents Individuals: $120 Residents, $235 Non Residents Senior Citizens: $70 Residents, $90 Non Residents Payment Plan: Easy payment plan for families and individuals of two equal payments. Make your first payment by April 1st and your second payment by May 13th. Full payment is required to receive pool I.D. Pinewood Pool Rentals Pinewood Pool is available for after hours rentals. The hours and cost are as follows: Monday thru Thursday: 2 hours, 7:30-9:30 PM, Cost: $350 or 3 hours, 7:30 10:30 PM, Cost: $450 Friday thru Sunday:2 hours, 8:00-10:00 PM, Cost $350 or 3 hours, 8:00-11:00 PM, Cost $450 A security deposit is required in addition to the rental fee. Please call the Parks & Recreation Department for more information or to make a reservation. Pavilion Rentals Pavilions located at the Falls Township Community Park may be rented out to both residents and non-residents of Falls Township. They are available on a first come first served basis beginning January 2nd. We have two large picnic pavilions that hold a maximum of 100 people and five smaller gazebos which have one picnic table each. The pavilions have charcoal grills and are located near restrooms. For daily rental and security deposit fees, or more information please contact the Parks & Recreation Department or visit us on our website.
10 P A G E 10 Skate Board Park The Falls Township Community Park opened a new Skate Board Park in The park will re-open on Monday, March 15th. The hours of the park are from 10:00 AM until Dusk. We do not allow scooters, bikes, or roller blades in the park. For a complete listing or rules & regulations visit us online. Keep an eye out for upcoming events and programs at the Skate Board Park. Water Craft Permits & Rules In addition to state registration, your water craft must be registered with Falls Township in order to launch in the Falls Township Community Lake. Permits may be obtained through the Finance Department and are valid from February 1st through January 31st. Permits cost $20 for residents and $40 for non-residents. Boats, canoes, sailboats and inflatable boats with two or more air chambers and a minimum length of 7 are permitted. Novelty type water craft is prohibited. No gas powered motor boats allowed Boats over 16 in length are not permitted except for canoes, which may be 18 long Serviceable and properly fitted U.S. Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices must accompany each occupant of a water craft and must be worn at all times by non-swimmers and children under 12 years of age Water craft operators must be at least 16 years of age PA Fish Commission laws apply to all water craft Boats must be rigged/loaded before entering ramp N E W S L E T T E R T I T L E
