4 The Spa Experience Combining the cosy calm of our Relaxation Lounge with the splendour of the Victorian Turkish Baths, the 1877 Spa Experience is a wonderful way to relax and unwind. Our unique Turkish Baths is home to a range of thermal experiences, including an Aromasteam, Sauna, Steam Room, Ice Cave and Plunge Pool, all centred around the ornate Hammam. This traditional steam bathing experience improves circulation, boosts the immune system and softens the skin whilst relaxing both mind and body. You simply bring your swimwear and we'll take care of the rest - providing you with spa robes, towels and footwear for the duration of your visit. Whenever you feel in need of refreshment, head back to the Relaxation Lounge where you can choose from a wide selection of complimentary hot drinks and infused waters. 6 Spa Tips We want your visit with us to be as enjoyable as possible, and with this in mind we have prepared these Spa Tips. On Arrival You will be given a locker key on arrival and we advise that you leave all personal possessions, including jewellery, in your locker. Metal jewellery can become hot and uncomfortable in the heat experiences, so is best removed. Mobile phones are strictly prohibited in the Relaxation lounge and Spa Experience so please leave them in your locker! If you fail to adhere to this policy you will be politely asked to leave the spa. Relaxation Relaxation is the first area you will come to. Our Spa Assistants are on hand to serve you with complimentary hot drinks. You can help yourself to infused waters from the dispensers to the left of the aquarium, and there s a selection of magazines available. If you re having a treatment during your visit, your therapist will collect you from the Relaxation area and take you to your treatment room. Spa Experience If you re visiting us for the first time, or just haven t been for a while, our Spa Assistants will give you a tour of the Spa Experience and explain the temperatures and benefits of each room. The Hammam is the centre of the Spa Experience, it s a warm area with a heated floor and heated granite seating. It s a great place to relax between using the hot and cold experiences. There are three Heat Experiences: the Aromasteam which has a temperature of around 45 C; the Steam Room which has temperatures between 45 C and 70 C; and the Sauna, which is a dry heat, with temperatures of up to 95 C. Please make sure you are as dry as possible before entering the Sauna, and only take dry towels into this room. Please keep hands away from the steam outlets in the Aromasteam and Steam Room. There are two Cold Experiences: the Plunge Pool, which has a temperature of around 10 C, and the Ice Cave which has temperatures between 0 C and 7 C. There are white hoses situated around the Spa Experience which you can use to cool down, or to hose down the granite seating. To maintain the temperatures of the hot and cold experiences, please close doors behind you when entering and leaving the rooms. You will lose fluid whilst using the Heat Experiences and it is essential that you rehydrate. We provide water in the Hammam area, as well as cold drinks in the Relaxation area. If you feel faint, dizzy or unwell at any time please leave the Spa Experience, take a seat in the Relaxation area and ask a member of staff for assistance. Panic buttons are also situated in each of the Heat Experiences.

22 Frequently Asked Questions What do I need to bring with me? If you are using the Spa Experience you will need to bring swimwear. We provide robes, footwear and towels for all our guests. We also provide complimentary Elemis toiletries in our showers and changing rooms and have hairdryers in both changing rooms. Locker keys are issued on arrival. How early do I need to arrive for my appointment? We ask that you arrive 15 minutes before your appointment is due to start. This gives you time to check-in at reception, complete a Health Card and get changed. If you are late for your appointment we will always do our best to accommodate you but cannot guarantee you will receive your full treatment time. Can I book a treatment on the day? We always recommend booking treatments in advance to avoid disappointment, however please check with reception on arrival and they can advise you of availability. Why do I have to fill in a Health Card? We need to ensure that you are fit and well before you use the Spa facilities or receive treatments. Some medical conditions may prevent you from using certain facilities or having specific treatments, as these could be detrimental to your health. If you are having treatments, your therapist will also use the information on your Health Card to ensure you gain the maximum benefit from your treatment. What is included in my treatment time? Your treatment time includes your consultation and aftercare advice. These are both vital elements of your treatment to ensure you receive the most beneficial treatment on the day and that you know how best to prolong the benefits once you leave. What do I wear during my treatment? During your treatment you can wear your own underwear or swimwear, or your therapist will be happy to provide you with disposable underwear. What should I do if I m uncomfortable during my treatment? Your comfort is of the utmost importance to us. If for any reason you feel uncomfortable during your treatment please be sure to inform your therapist at the time so they can make any necessary adjustments. Is there a minimum age? With our usual sessions we are unable to offer treatments or use of the Spa facilities to people under the age of 16. Can I use my own beauty products in the Spa Experience? We ask our guests to refrain from using their own products in either the Spa Experience or Relaxation area. Why don t you have a Jacuzzi? As the world s oldest Victorian Turkish Bath and a listed building, we have kept our Spa Experience true to it s original design and facilities. If you have any additional queries, please don t hesitate to contact our reception team.

23 TO BOOK Please telephone to make your appointment, or call in to our Victoria Street reception. HEALTH CARDS All clients are required to fill out a Health Card on arrival. You must advise us of any medical conditions, allergies or illness, and of any medication you are taking. Please be aware that some medical conditions may prevent you from using the Spa Experience or having certain treatments. If you have any concerns please mention them to the receptionist at the time of booking. DEPOSITS All bookings require a 10 deposit per person at the time of booking. If you need to cancel or rearrange your appointment we ask that you give us 48 hours notice. For cancellations made with less than 48 hours notice your deposit is nonrefundable. By making a booking at Spa 1877 you are accepting the terms and conditions of our cancellation policy. Please note, cancellations by or social media will not be accepted. PAYMENT We accept payment in cash, by cheque, and all major debit and credit cards. SPA 1877 reserves the right to decline entry or to administer treatments. Please note children under the age of 16, including babies, are not allowed in the Spa or into treatment rooms. SPA 1877 s rules are displayed publicly, please adhere to them. GIFT VOUCHERS Every occasion, any excuse! Available over the telephone, in spa or online at GROUPS We try to limit large groups because it can be difficult to maintain a quiet environment which can impact on other guests. If people are found to be booking separately and sitting in groups larger than five you will be asked to separate. Failure to comply means the group may be asked to leave. ETIQUETTE To preserve the ambience of the Spa and ensure a relaxing experience for all, the Relaxation Lounge and Spa area are designated quiet areas. We kindly request clients respect other spa users by respecting our quiet please signs. We also kindly request all guests to respect other Spa users by refraining from the use of mobile phones, keeping them in the lockers at all times. In this way, all our guests will be able to enjoy the facilities and well-being benefits in a stress-free and pleasant environment.
