Samala Hot Stone Massage: For centuries, the Chumash Indians have used warm stones and sage to soothe sore muscles and invigorate the body and spirit. The masseuse begins the 75-minute treatment with a soothing massage using Desert Sage massage oil, which allows the hot stones to glide smoothly along the skin. During this relaxing massage, the stones are immersed in water and heated. The masseuse then uses the stones - which are made of basalt, a type of rock that is rich in iron so they retain heat to massage the neck, shoulders, back and legs. The warmth of the stones improves blood flow and calms the senses.
