Take a 6,000 year journey with a Parks Canada interpreter and uncover what lies beneath your feet. Learn the fate of the four fur trading posts and hear the epic stories behind this meeting place. Through curious objects and colourful characters, the history of The Forks comes to life in this easy one hour walking tour. Tours meet and depart from the Parks Canada Information Desk inside the Travel Manitoba Information Centre at The Forks at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Tours are 60 minutes long with a maximum of 20 participants. Tours delivered in English or in French. Old Market Square Saturday 1:00pm BIKE WINNIPEG * NEW * Join Bike Winnipeg on a Doors Open Winnipeg bike tour through historic Winnipeg buildings that have generously opened themselves to the public, with no admission charge. Starting at 1pm in Old Market Square, tour the city via bicycle and visit the Doors Open participants Art Space, Old St. Boniface City Hall, the Railway Museum and the Masonic Temple on Osborne. Participants should expect to be back at Old Market Square at approximately 4pm. This tour is FREE and open to ALL AGES. Donations accepted. Bike rentals available at Natural Cycle. Visit the first locomotive built in western Canada, right here in Transcona! This is your chance to come into the fenced area around the engine to get a better look, and learn more about the museum s efforts to SAVE Please note you will not be able to climb onto or in the locomotive. Tours start at the Cube Stage in Old Market Square and are 60 minutes long with a maximum of 75 participants. The Cube Stage 2:00pm 2:00pm ;3 GHOST SIGNS WALKING TOUR Join tour guide Matt Cohen and walk the Exchange District in search of ghost signs. Discover the area s fading promotional signage and learn more about the companies that called these warehouses home. This 90-minute tour will allow participants to travel back in time and get to know the businesses behind the ads and the impact they played in shaping the landscape of the district. Tours start at the Cube Stage in Old Market Square and with a maximum of 50 participants. 219 Memorial Boulevard 10:30am & 1:30pm 10:30am & 1:30pm ; HAUNTED WINNIPEG MINI-TOUR Join one of Winnipeg s most experienced guides and author of the book Haunted Winnipeg: Ghost Stories from the Heart of the Continent on a tour of haunted history. The walk will combine historical fact with ghost stories connected to three well-known Winnipeg buildings. Starting at Vaughan Street Jail, the tour will proceed to the Manitoba Legislature and conclude at Dalnavert Museum on Carlton Street. Tours meet in Memorial Park directly across from the Vaughan Street Jail and are 45 minutes long. Please note that this tour is now fully booked! Find out how the Exchange District got its name and the role of agriculture in shaping Portage and Main. Tours conducted by Keystone Agricultural Producers. Tours meet in front of City Hall and are 60 minutes long with a maximum of 30 participants. 170 Poplar Avenue 2:00pm LORD SELKIRK SCHOOL/ELMWOOD-EAST KILDONAN ACTIVE LIVING CENTRE WALKING TOUR (1908) * NEW * Lord Selkirk School (named Lord Selkirk No. 1) built in 1908 was named after the 5th Earl of Selkirk Thomas Douglas ( ). We will start the tour with a walk through the 2nd re-building of this school which opened in Inside the halls we will hear the colorful history of the school. We will then proceed to 180 Poplar across the field from the school to learn the history of that building. There will be light refreshments, laminated maps, easel displays, information & Q&A. The tour is two hours long and with a maximum of 200 participants.

Every West End mural is painted with purpose and we want to share the meaning behind many of our most prominent works of art. Through our mural tour, discover our local heroes, urban history and the many cultures that together make up the West End story. Tours begin at the corner of Portage Avenue and Langside Street. Tours are two hours long with a maximum of 25 participants. Call Joe at to book in advance. WINNIPEG TROLLEY COMPANY Let Trolley 356 carry you down the streets of our city s past! The Winnipeg Trolley Company will once again be offering free Doors Open Winnipeg shuttle service aboard Manitoba s only heritage trolley. Designed to resemble an original Winnipeg streetcar, with a nostalgic wood and brass interior, soft domed lighting, and attractive orange and cream finish, riding the 32-passenger trolley is the perfect way to travel in our historic downtown. Let the trolley drop you off near over a dozen participating Doors Open sites, and don t forget to ask the driver how Trolley 356 got its name! Extensive renovations in have preserved the classic elegance of the building while also providing a modern and comfortable banking environment. There will be light refreshments served throughout the day. 364 Smith Street Cumberland Avenue 85 Israel Asper Way tf; BURTON CUMMINGS THEATRE ( ) Originally known as the Walker Theatre, The Burton Cummings Theatre was constructed in , for a new style of professional-level entertainment and it brought ballets, operas, and Broadway-style shows to Winnipeg. The theatre was converted into the Odeon Cinema in 1945 and in 2002, the theatre was renamed after Burton Cummings, Winnipeg-born former lead singer of the Guess Who. Tours are self-guided and run throughout the day, with a maximum of 12 participants per area. Please note that only the main floor is wheelchair accessible. C2 CENTRE FOR CRAFT * NEW * The C2 Centre for Craft, which opened in October 2017, is home to the Manitoba Crafts Museum and Library (MCML) and the Manitoba Craft Council (MCC). At C2 visitors engage with traditional and contemporary Manitoba craft through exhibits, public programming, the library and the C2 Shop which features local fine craft. Our tour developed exclusively for Doors Open Winnipeg is back by popular demand! Find hidden spaces, learn about the building s unique design, and gain a new perspective. Visitors can explore the Museum s core galleries after the tour (admission fees apply). Be inspired by architect Antoine Predock s vision for a timeless structure that celebrates human rights. 4 4 HERITAGE WINNIPEG presents the 15th annual May 26, 27, 2018 FREE ADMISSION 61 Carlton Street COSTUME MUSEUM OF CANADA Please come join us as the Costume Museum of Canada takes you back to when Eaton s was alive and well and living in Winnipeg. We will show how fashion has evolved through the past 100 years, from the excitement of the arrival of the catalogue to the shopping at the Downtown location. We take you through Eaton s the Department store and show how it affected and changed the fashion in Canada. Display located inside the Dalnavert Museum. 61 Carlton Street DALNAVERT MUSEUM AND VISITORS CENTRE (1895) Dalnavert Museum is a national historic site built in 1895 on Treaty 1 land for Sir Hugh J. Macdonald, son of Sir John A. Macdonald, and his family. After 40 years as a boarding house, Dalnavert has been restored to its original Victorian style, fully furnished with period artifacts and antiques rounded out with a handful of original Macdonald family pieces. Come walk through our hallowed halls and enjoy a glimpse into our Victorian Past! Tours run throughout the day. 678 Main Street DOMINION BANK (1907) The Old Dominion Bank (1907) represents one of the few remaining grand Beaux-Arts Classical style buildings at the corner of Higgins and Main. Restored as an architectural office by BridgmanCollaborative Architecture the building includes an ornate banking hall with its fine plasterwork and columns, vaults, bankers offices, a terra cotta façade and an addition made from the convention Centre original stone cladding. In the garden are stones from the old Winnipeg City Hall. Included in the tour is a discussion of the history of the historic context of built forms in and around Higgins and Main. Tours run throughout the day and are 20 minutes long with a maximum of 15 participants. 546 Portage Avenue 77 Main Street t ;3 10 Kennedy Street ELIM CHAPEL (1906) Elim Chapel is a non-denominational Church housed in a 110 years old building on 546 Portage Avenue. This year for Doors Open you can view this beautiful building in downtown Winnipeg that features stained glass windows, tower rooms and a church pipe organ. It will be an opportunity to learn about the history of Elim Chapel and the programs we currently offer. Our organist will be playing the pipe organ during the tours. Tours start on the hour and are 60 minutes long with a maximum of 10 participants. GIBRALTAR HOUSE THE NORTH WEST COMPANY (1912) * NEW * Situated in the heart of downtown Winnipeg, Gibraltar House is the home of The North West Company whose roots trace back to the European Fur Trade. Originally named the Hudson Bay House, Gibraltar House was established in 1913 as a warehouse for The Hudson Bay Company. Today, as the hub for The North West Company s Canadian retail operations, Gibraltar House continues its lively and vital role in Canada s North and beyond. Explore North West s rich enterprising history and learn how the Company helped shape modern-day Canada through a brief guided tour of select work areas, paintings, artifacts, and Inuit Art collection. Tours start at 11am, 11:45am, 12:30pm, 1:15pm, 2pm, 2:45pm, 3:30pm and 4:15pm. Tours are 30 minutes long with a maximum of 10 participants. GOVERNMENT HOUSE (1883) The official residence of the Lieutenant Governor, at 10 Kennedy Street, was built in 1883 by the Dominion Government for $23,995 and transferred to the Province for $1 as residence for the Lieutenant Governor, and for no other purpose. It has been home to 22 Lieutenant Governors since 1883 and also serves as Manitoba s ceremonial residence where the Lieutenant Governor hosts many events, honouring and recognizing Manitobans. Tours start at the front door of Government House, departing every 10 minutes with the last tour leaving at 3:40pm. Tours are 20 minutes long with a maximum of 25 participants. 256 Smith Street HOLY TRINITY ANGLICAN CHURCH (1884) Designed by Charles Wheeler, the interior of this Gothic Style church features spectacular stained glass windows, original woodwork, inspiring architectural and historical features, and a magnificent pipe organ. The building is designated as a Provincial and National Heritage Site. For over 130 years, Holy Trinity continues as a home of worship and an outreach Anglican community in the heart of downtown Winnipeg. Come and experience the sounds of our pipe organ and meet our amazing organist, Richard Greig. Please use the Donald Street entrance. Join us for Sunday services at 8:00, 9:45 or 11:00am. Tours run throughout the day starting at 11:30am and are 30 minutes long. 450 Broadway Saturday; Sunday MANITOBA LEGISLATIVE BUILDING ( ) Manitoba s Legislative Building is one of the finest public buildings, not just in Manitoba, but across North America! The building formally opened on July 15th, 1920 on the 50th anniversary of Manitoba s confederation. The impressive architecture in Beaux Arts style and the intriguing interior and exterior art have only become more renowned with time. While the Legislative Assembly provides tours all year, visitors flock to the building for Doors Open Winnipeg where our tour guides share stories of the life-sized North American bison, the Legislative Assembly and the other treasures within this Frank W. Simon and Henry Boddington III creation. 331 Smith Street tf; MARLBOROUGH HOTEL HISTORY TOUR (1914) Built in 1914 as the Olympia Hotel and at only three storeys tall, the hotel immediately established itself as one of the most prominent and luxurious places to stay in Winnipeg. Closed down to become a barracks for soldiers during WWI, a six storey expansion greeted guests after the war in 1921, and in 1956 construction began on a ten storey tower on the north side of the hotel. Late Gothic Revival architecture, imported Italianate marble, and beautiful stained glass windows can be seen in the building today! Tours start at 11am, 12pm, 12:30pm, 1pm, 2pm, 2:30pm and 3pm. Tour are 60 to 90 minutes long and with a maximum of 30 participants.

5 CELEBRATING VOTE FOR THE PEOPLES CHOICE AWARDS AT WASHROOMS WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE PARKING FOOD/DRINKS 5 1 Navy Way 10:00am 4:30pm 10:00am 4:30pm NAVAL MUSEUM OF MANITOBA ( ) HMCS CHIPPAWA is the current home of both Winnipeg s Naval Reserve Division and the Naval Museum of Manitoba. The original Winnipeg Winter Club, built on this site in 1910, was taken over by the Royal Canadian Navy in the early 1940s. The Naval Museum of Manitoba was established within the Division in 1980 to preserve the history and heritage of Manitoba s Naval personnel, with an addition in A key feature of this new building is the large, two-story curved window facing Assiniboine Avenue, behind which you can see a large, four-inch, twin barrel naval gun mount of the type used on World War II ships. It dynamically displays A Look to the Past, With a View to the Future! 184 Alexander Avenue East OSEREDOK UKRAINIAN CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL CENTRE (1912) Oseredok is a multifaceted heritage institution connecting Canadians with Ukrainian culture. It is recognized for the breadth and scope of its ethnology, art, archives and library collections that lie at the heart of its public programs (exhibitions, workshops, public lectures). It provides information and research services pertaining to Ukrainian Canadian heritage. Oseredok is located in a five-storey red brick building erected in 1912 by the British and Foreign Bible Society, which was known for a long time as Bible House. The north facade of the building has a historic designation from the City of Winnipeg. Tour start at 10:30am, 12:30pm and 2:30pm. Tours are 60 minutes long with a maximum of 20 participants. 298 Garry Street TELPAY BUILDING (1909) The Telpay building gives visitors a rare glimpse into Winnipeg s financial services industry at the turn of the century. The spectacular exterior features an imported red sandstone façade, a rarity in Winnipeg. The interior showcases impressive craftsmanship of the period, including original marble details, a commanding lobby rotunda, Corinthian capped pillars, and crafted glass panels. The original manual elevator is also still functional. Today, the building houses Telpay, the largest independent electronic payment processor in Canada for over 30 years. Tours start at the main floor reception and are 15 minutes long with a maximum of 20 participants. 324 Young Street 444 York Avenue 9:00am 4:00pm 9:00am 4:00pm 510 Main Street, Council Building THE OLD HOUSE REVIVAL COMPANY & ANTIQUE MALL (1914) The Old House Revival Company & Antique Mall, built originally in 1914 for Fort Garry Dyers and Cleaners Ltd. The building remained vacant for a number of years until it became an auction house in It was sold again in 2002 to the present owner who has extensively renovated the building incorporating many heritage and architecturally salvaged pieces from the city and surrounding area. With a newly renovated basement, and 12,000 square feet to explore you are sure to find something, whether you are restoring your 100 year old home or searching for that hidden antique or vintage treasure. Tours run every 15 to 20 minutes with a maximum of 12 participants. 245 Smith Street VAUGHAN STREET JAIL (1881) The Vaughan Street Jail was built in 1881 by architect Charles Osborne Wickensen, and was later modified by Samuel Hooper in It is the oldest provincially owned building still standing within the City limits. There are significant local and Canadian historical figures connected to this building, and yet unfortunately, there is still no heritage designation. Tours begin on the west side of the building, facing Memorial Boulevard. Tours depart every 15 minutes and are 50 minutes long with a maximum 60 participants. This building does not require preregistration. 123 Main Street tf WINNIPEG CITY HALL (1964) Visitors are welcome to view the Public Galleries and Council Chamber of Winnipeg s City Hall on Saturday, May 26. Mayor Brian Bowman will also welcomes Winnipeggers to view his office from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Designed by Architects Green, Blankstein, Russell Associates to replace the 1886 Gingerbread City Hall, the Modernist-style Council Building is part of the Civic Centre complex that also includes the Susan A. Thompson Building, the former Public Safety Building and Civic parkade, and Centennial Centre. Please note that disabled access is available upon request. BUILDINGS & INDOOR EVENTS: EXCHANGE DISTRICT 100 Arthur Street 12:00pm 5:00pm WINNIPEG POLICE MUSEUM (1956) The Winnipeg Police Museum relocated to the Police Headquarters at 245 Smith Street in July of Although parking can sometimes be a challenge, there are lots of artifacts, displays, vehicles and history to make it worth any trouble. Most of the volunteers are retired police officers, who come with a tale or two. It has been said that the history of the police is the history of Winnipeg - for every major event, the police were there. Be prepared to be entertained as you learn! WINNIPEG RAILWAY MUSEUM (1911) Climb the stairs of the historic Winnipeg Union Station to tracks 1 and 2 where you will discover 37,500 square feet of Railway History and Artifacts. See the Countess of Dufferin, the first steam locomotive on the prairies, also diesel and electric locomotives, rolling stock, maintenance-of-way equipment, the history of the CPR, CNR, Hudson Bay and the City of Winnipeg Railways, the History of Women in Railroading and a large HO gauge display. ARTSPACE (1901) In 1901, the Gault building, a strong example of the Richardsonian Romanesque style, was constructed for the Gault Brothers Company. In 1986, the space transformed into Artspace, a multidisciplinary arts centre that houses a number of arts organizations. The tour starts in the lobby, showcasing the Little Library, Window Gallery, and the drayway then through the building, concluding with a visit to an actual working studio that specializes in etching and engraving. Tours run throughout the day and are 30 minutes long with a maximum of 8 participants.

The gallery has been located on Albert Street for 35 years, calling three different places home. Now found in the historic Hammond Building, it is run by a sixth generation framer who would be happy to give you personal tour of the gallery. Stop by to marvel at the beautiful artworks while learning all about the artists who created them. 145 Pacific Avenue f MANITOBA SPORTS HALL OF FAME (1884 & 2017) Enter the iconic Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame which is dedicated to showcasing and celebrating Sports in Manitoba dating all the way back to the late 1800 s. If you are crazy about sports, this is a must see attraction with over 3000 square feet dedicated to the most decorated Manitoba sporting achievements and athletes. Tours run throughout the day and are 30 minutes long with a maximum of 15 participants. The tour will take you through the Decades Gallery and new feature exhibit, Reflections of the Great War: Manitoban Athletes-in-Arms. 231 McDermot Avenue 2:00pm 5:00pm 2:00pm 5:00pm tf MARIAGGI S THEME SUITE HOTEL AND SPA (1900) The Albert Block was built in the early 1900 s by Sir James Tupper, who rented and eventually sold to Frank Mariaggi - an Italian restaurateur from Corsica. Mariaggi s became well known for the 8,000 square foot restaurant with the Longest Bar in the West reaching from Albert Street to Arthur Street and the dining grottos in the basement were the talk of the town. The lavishly appointed hotel suites on the upper floors included telephone, elegant tapestries, rugs, draperies and each a luxury bathroom with individual toilet, bath and sink. Today, Mariaggi s has once again set a new standard for the day. All theme suites are uniquely designed with furnishings and artwork that represent the country of the theme. 212 McDermot Avenue t 389 Main Street 504 Main Street 11:00am 3:00pm MAYBERRY FINE ART (1901) The Lake of the Woods Building, erected in 1901 and expanded in 1911, was designed by one of Manitoba s most prolific architects, J.H.G. Russell. Built in the Romanesque Revival style, the building s remarkable exterior has an abundance of ornamentation. It is finished using red brick with Twin City brown sandstone accents, unique materials for the area. Many original interior elements also remain, including the vaults, hardwood floors, wood paneling, doors, the main staircase, and the upstairs boardroom and fireplace. Since then, the episcopal residence has gone through some exterior face lifting and a complete interior renewal. Today, the Archbishop s Residence houses the diocese s administrative offices and pastoral centre, meeting rooms, and apartments for a number of retired priests and the Archbishop of St. Boniface. MILLENNIUM CENTRE (1911) Designed for the Canadian Bank of Commerce by Darling and Pearson, this magnificent heritage building has been preserved and renamed the Millennium Centre, and features a monumental granite and marble hall capped with a stained-glass dome 15 meters above. Be sure to visit the Tapestry Room! This year the Millennium Centre will feature performances by the Bolero Dance Theatre, a theatrical dance company devoted to presenting Spanish dance from the Escuela Bolera style to the passion of Flamenco. Flamenco guitarist Philippe Meunier will provide live accompaniment. The colourful traditional costumes and castanets enhance the spectacle to the maximum. Performances start at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm, lasting 15 minutes. Tours of the main banking hall are self guided. 407 Provencher Boulevard THE BELGIAN CLUB (1908) The Belgian Club was constructed in 1908 as a place for members of the Winnipeg area Belgian community to socialize. Constructed by Frank Wyant and Marcel De Leeuw under the guidance of architect J.A. Senecal, the building has gone through many additions in order to accommodate the growing Belgian community. The second floor was added in 1911, and further additions were completed in 1914 and The building is especially notable for its original tin ceilings that can be seen in the upper hall and in the main hall of the basement. RRC PATERSON GLOBALFOODS INSTITUTE (1902) Home to Red River College s School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts, the Paterson GlobalFoods Institute is a part of our Exchange District Campus. BARBER HOUSE (1862) One of Winnipeg s earliest buildings, Barber House was constructed in 1862 using the Red River frame technique and continuously occupied for over one hundred years! BISHOP VELYCHKOVSKY NATIONAL MARTYR S SHRINE (1952) The Bishop Velychkovsky Martyr s Shrine is the second Martyr s Shrine in Canada, housing the holy relics of Blessed Bishop Vasyl Velychkovsky, a modern Ukrainian Catholic Martyr who was persecuted and tortured by the Soviet regime for remaining faithful to his church. The life of Blessed Vasyl, who was beatified in 2001, is depicted in the museum through artifacts, panels, and a short video. The church itself is filled with beautiful Byzantine icons, mosaics, and stained glass windows. Please use the front entrance of the church. JOHN (1926) The Reverend John West founded the parish in 1820 and the Cathedral is the fourth church building on the site. Designed by architects Parfitt and Prain, the Cathedral features a blend of Norman and Gothic styles. The cemetery, which predates the parish, provides a history of Winnipeg in stone, established by the Selkirk Settlers in Tours start at 10:30am, 12:30pm, and 2:30pm on Saturday and at 1pm and 3pm on Sunday. CITY OF WINNIPEG ANIMAL SERVICES AGENCY (1996) Animal Services facility features the City of Winnipeg operation upstairs and the WRENCH bicycle group and thousands of bicycles downstairs. Visitors will be taken on a tour and be able to visit with homeless dogs, check out the kennels, and even sit in an animal control vehicle. The basement of Animal Services features the WRENCH. The non-profit organization strives to make bikes and knowledge of bicycle repair and maintenance accessible to the public. Visitors can learn how to fix bikes. FIRE FIGHTERS MUSEUM OF WINNIPEG (1903) The fire hall at 56 Maple Street was built in 1903 and was active until Designed by Alexander and William Melville, it is one of five fire halls built that year. Eventually, its building plan was used for 14 of Winnipeg s fire stations. The station is a two-storey brick building with a one-storey stable that originally housed 12 horses, a hayloft, an oat bin, and a harness room. Four poles were used to carry the fire fighters to the main floor upon receipt of a fire alarm. The 75-foot tower was used for drying fire hose. Tours are self-guided with volunteers on hand to answer questions.

In 1854 the spiritual centre of the community was completed in the Historic Kildonan Presbyterian Church, which still stands prominently in the graveyard. The large mosaic of the Trinity at the front of the building was designed by Leo Mol. Inside, stained glass windows feature Ukrainian Canadian religious themes. A museum on the main floor showcases the rich traditions and culture that Ukrainian immigrants brought with them to Canada. Tours run throughout the day. 119 Sutherland Avenue 10:00am to 5:00pm 31 McBeth Street 551 Machray Avenue MANITOBA INDIGENOUS CULTURAL EDUCATION CENTRE (1908) Designed by J.H.G. Russell, the building at 119 Sutherland Ave. housed a Methodist-sponsored mission, which became prominent in under the superintendency of Rev. J.S. Woodsworth. The building was built for functionality and durability. Due to this, the building has served its occupants well. When no longer used as a Mission, the Manitoba Indian Cultural Education Centre (MICEC) acquired it in 1977 on a three year rental purchase agreement and on March 31, 1980 it became the property of MICEC. An extensive interior renovation occurred in 2009 and is now called the Manitoba Indigenous Cultural Education Centre. MCBETH HOUSE (1912) The 2017 Doors Open Hidden Gem award winner is nestled away from the heavy traffic, east of Main St. along the Red River. McBeth House was built 1912 for Robert McBeth a Selkirk Settler and entrepreneur. Gifted to the City of Winnipeg in the 1980s by Ms. Isabel McBeth, Robert s granddaughter, to become a meeting place for seniors. The home sits on a 7-acre parcel of green space, McBeth Park with walking pathway to some of Manitoba s largest Cottonwood trees. This striking home has maintained its original charm and character highlighted by the handcrafted woodwork that still adorns the dining room and three fireplaces on the main floor. MCGREGOR STREET ARMOURY (1915) McGregor Armoury has been a fixture in the North End since it opened in September of 1915, in the midst of the First World War. It still performs its original function as a training centre for the Army, as well as providing a place for Cadets to train. Come see our historic building and some of the secrets inside, such as the Messes and Regimental Museum. Members of the Army Reserve, Canada s citizen-soldiers, will be your guides. In 1922, parishioners added a large pioneer stone cross to the church grounds. The interior of the church has numerous religious icons, banners, and a beautiful bronze medallion sculpture of St. Olga by Leo Mol. WINNIPEG UKRAINIAN LABOUR TEMPLE ( ) The Labour Temple is the national office of the Association of United Ukrainian Canadians, a progressive organization that offers cultural, social and educational activities. Constructed in , it is the largest Ukrainian Labour Temple in Canada, built with volunteer labour and donations from the newly arrived Ukrainian community. It was the focus for Ukrainian culture, and worker and farmer activism. It is the only surviving labour hall associated with the events of the Winnipeg General Strike, and continues to be a vibrant community centre. We will also have our Ivan Franko Museum open, which shows the life and work of this 19th century Ukrainian writer, poet and social activist. Tours will run throughout the day and are 30 minutes long. 17 WING MILITARY COMMUNITY CHAPEL (1956) * NEW * This mid-century modern chapel, built in 1956, is the last remaining structure of six military chapels that once served Winnipeg service members and their families. It contains historic stained-glass windows collected from the earlier buildings, as well as some recent commemorations. Along with its attached annex and recent addition of an indigenous sweat lodge, it now serves two Christian faith communities, a Defence Aboriginal Advisory Group, and many other units and groups related to the Wing. Nichols and contractor F. Hinds. Originally the home of Northland Knitting, the building has provided operating space to a variety of manufacturers over the years, most recently Ram Wools, who operated there until the mid-1990s. In 2010, John Hunsberger purchased the building with a vision of transforming it into unique artists studios. Using reclaimed materials and a creative approach to renovation, the historic building has been completely revitalized. With 21 studios and more to come as the fourth floor is developed, ARTlington provides beautiful workspaces for more than 30 diverse artists. The Chapman Room offers architectural features from the original home of George Chapman, Charleswood s first Reeve. Outdoor tours will celebrate the St. Charles Ferry and early Metis history in the Charleswood area and guided indoor tours of this Historic home. Tours run throughout the day and are 20 minutes long with a maximum of 8 participants Roblin Boulevard CHARLESWOOD HISTORICAL SOCIETY MUSEUM (1958) The Charleswood Museum is a hidden gem of local artifacts located on the site of Charleswood s former council chambers. The museum displays artifacts including the 1860s Assiniboine River ferry pulley, Charlie the real bison, projectile points, the first post office wicket in Charleswood, vintage wedding dresses, local sports memorabilia, regional art and photography, agriculture equipment, vintage school supplies and hundreds of old time treasures from days gone by. Chapelle Notre-Dame-du-Bon Secours A former priest of Saint-Norbert, Father Noël Ritchot, played a key role in the events leading to the creation of Manitoba. Sent to Ottawa by Louis Riel, he successfully negotiated the terms of Manitoba s entrance into the Canadian Federation. Fr. Ritchot built the chapel in fulfillment of a promise if the political crisis could be resolved without bloodshed. The chapel is decorated by frescoes from Constantin Tauffenbach with the ceiling restored by the Franco-Manitoban artist Robert Freynet in Tours run throughout the day and are 30 minutes long. 603 Wellington Crescent 11:00am - 4:00pm FIRST UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST CHURCH OF WINNIPEG (1912) The Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg celebrated its 125th Anniversary in 2016 and has been active in a variety of Winnipeg locations through the years, but was originally built as the home of the local Managing Director of the John Deere Plow Company. The architects were Ross and Macfarlane, a Montreal firm that also designed the Hotel Fort Garry. The ornate fireplace in the living room and the mahogany wood staircase in the central hallway are two of the most distinguishing features of this home. The newer sanctuary, designed by Prairie Architects, adjoins the house where the once stately carriage building was previously located. Tours are ongoing with various lengths Portage Avenue GRANT S OLD MILL (1974) Made of logs brought from the Whiteshell in 1975, Grant s Old Mill was constructed the way it would have been in 1829 all tongue and groove and no nails. The millstones are solid granite, with the top stone weighing 2,000lbs and the bottom stone weighing 1,000lbs. The mill is named after Cuthbert Grant Jr., who operated the first water mill west of the Great Lakes. The mill produces about 700lbs of whole-wheat flour a season and is operated by the St. James Assiniboia Pioneer Association Inc. Guided tours will be available at the site. Located in a 1931 substation still active today the Manitoba Electrical Museum & Education Centre houses a large collection of electrical artifacts, archival photographs, documents and interactive educational displays that help tell the story of hydroelectric development in Manitoba. Interactive exhibits include a replica streetcar from 1909 and a towering robot made of over 50 household appliances. 854 Ellice Avenue 11:00am 2:00pm HSM TEMPLE AND CULTURAL CENTRE (1947) *NEW* The Hindu Society of Manitoba was incorporated as a Religious Charitable Society in Weekly Sunday prayer meetings started in early seventies at devotees homes. Friends and devotees came together to renovate Liberty Church into a beautiful Hindu temple. On Diwali night of October 1979 the Hindu Temple was opened for worship. This was the beginning of the first Hindu community place of worship in Manitoba. In 1984 the temple was further expanded to North and East sides. 854 Ellice Avenue site is holy and blessed place of worship since the 1940 s, first as Church and since then as HINDU TEMPLE where devotees congregate to seek love and peace. Unfortunately this isn t the case, but sometimes the truth is just as compelling. Opened in 1931, declared a Heritage Building in 2001, and newly reopened in 2017 after significant renovations, the Sherbrook Pool has played a vital part in Winnipeg s West End community. Join the Friends of Sherbrook Pool as they take you through the history of the pool, its relationship to the community, and promote a new plaque in dedication to former city councilor Harvey Smith. No photos permitted inside the Kinsmen Sherbrook Pool. 100 Rue des Ruines du Monastere 8:00am 4:00pm MCDOUGALL HOUSE (1871) Three years after the death of her husband died in 1883, Mme. Mcdougall and her teenage sons built a sturdy log house and operated a thriving General Store. This house now stands at Place St. Norbert in the heart of Historic St. Norbert. The McDougall House is a one-and-a-half storey lot building with dovetail corners, considered by many to be the ultimate in log building construction. Because of the great care needed in making these corners, usually only an expert axeman would choose the style. The fact that the joints still fit snugly on this 105-year-old house shows the remarkable workmanship involved. Tours of the grounds run throughout the day, starting on the hour and are 15 to 20 minutes long.

The 155,136 square foot structure comprises a concrete foundation, brick and steel frame walls, as well as concrete and wood floors. The roof, originally made of metal, tar and gravel, was destroyed in a fire on January 22, The rebuilt roof changed the profile of the building somewhat. Ten militia units and a headquarters occupied the building at that time. PARISH CHURCH OF ST. LUKE (1905) St. Luke s began in 1889 as a Sunday School provided by Holy Trinity Church. The present building, which was constructed in 1904 and enlarged in 1910, is an excellent example of Gothic Revival architecture. The interior contains a large pipe organ, beautiful stained glass windows, and wood carvings by noted craftsmen and artists. The tower features a fine chime of eight bells. In 1914, the Church House was built to accommodate the Sunday School and community activities. There will be guided tours as required for those that are interested. Tours run throughout the day and are 30 to 45 minutes long with a maximum of 20 participants. RALPH CONNOR HOUSE (1912) Located on the Assiniboine River in gracious Armstrong s Point, this house was the home of Reverend Charles Gordon, wife Helen, and their seven children. Under the pen name Ralph Connor, Rev. Gordon holds the title of Canada s bestselling author ever. After Gordon s death in 1937, the University Women s Club and the Friends of Ralph Connor House continue to maintain this 11,000 square-foot Jacobethan-style mansion. This year the lower level of the house will also feature a display by the Armstrong s Point Association be sure to check it out! MICHAEL AND ALL ANGELS CHURCH (1904) St. Michael and All Angels was founded as a mission in 1904 by the Parish of All Saints, one of the fashionable parishes in Winnipeg. In 1910, Archbishop Samuel Pritchard Matheson created St. Michael s as a parish with a small distinct geographical boundary. Always a small parish, it was a real act of Faith, Hope and Love, when the foundation stone was laid for the present limestone building, on June 17, The architect, Henry William Greene, designed the church in the Romanesque style after a church in Italy dedicated to St. Michael. The Mission building was moved from across the street to serve as the parish hall. Please enter the church through the main doors on Mulvey Avenue. JAMES THE ASSINIBOINE ANGLICAN (HERITAGE) CHURCH (1853) Situated in St. James Cemetery and surrounded by many of Winnipeg s earliest settlers, is our Provincial Heritage Church. Inside, you can clearly see the hand-hewn, fitted timbers of the structure, and the remnants of the tower used by Louis Riel s scouts. This church was the centre of parish life until November 26, 1922 when the new church opened. Condemned in 1936, it was restored in 1967 by the City of St. James and the parish as a Canadian Centennial project. The City of St. James was named for this parish. NORBERT ARTS CENTRE (1897) The St. Norbert Arts Centre is a cultural, historical and environmental focal point for people from all walks of life. Expanses of glazing lighten the large structure and include a window designed by Leo Mol incorporating a central panel of R. McCausland glass. The columns lining the aisles incorporate coloured mosaic tiles. The massive oak entrance doors feature carved relief panels by sculptor Cecil Richards. Displays and refreshments. A restored 1939 Fargo fire truck is also a popular spot for photos as is the restored jail cell.
