4-H Camp Wabasso is a very special outdoor educational experience and I am very proud to be back for my sixth season as director.

I was a camper, CIT, and counselor at 4-H Camp Wabasso. I know first hand how the experience of camp has made me a better leader, steward of the environment and professional educator.

Now more than ever children and young adults need an opportunity to reconnect with nature, develop leadership skills, advance social skills and be part of a kind, caring, outdoor supportive community. I was a camper, CIT, and counselor at 4-H Camp Wabasso. I know first hand how the experience of camp has made me a better leader, steward of the environment and professional educator. Camp teaches life skills, self-reliance, and independence. It teaches problem solving, social development, and a greater appreciation for the environment. We offer a wide range of activities from the arts and sciences to sports and recreation. New at camp in 2018 is a basketball court and a high ropes element - the Holy Cow Swing! I am also very proud of our Counselor-InTraining program, Cloverbud program, and our Outdoor Education program. There are so many opportunities at 4-H Camp Wabasso. Campers will enjoy a week-long adventure in the outdoors and be able to choose from our extensive list of activities. Camps run Sunday through Friday for youth ages Sunday registration is at 2:00 p.m. Friday pick-up is between 4:00-4:30 p.m. with a short Awards Program at 4:00 p.m. Limited to 60 campers. Traditional Day Camp Join us for a week of adventure! Each week holds something new for campers ages 8 to 16 to discover. Day campers get to sign up for the full array of camp offerings, eat lunch in the dining hall, and have the chance for the best outdoor experience of their summer. Campers are to be dropped off at 9:00 a.m. (8:30 a.m. on Monday) and picked up at 5:00 p.m. (4:00 p.m. on Friday). 3

Participants will shadow counselors/leaders to learn advanced training techniques and leadership skills to prepare them to become future counselors.

Counselor-in-Training (CIT)/Leadership The Counselor-in-Training III program is for campers who are at least 15 years of age and requires an application and two-week commitment. Campers will pay for one week and then come back another week at a 50% reduced rate. Participants will shadow counselors/leaders to learn advanced training techniques and leadership skills to prepare them to become future counselors. CITs will work on a camp project, assist with some classes, and participate in a CIT class of their own. Applications due by May 1, Note: CIT I and CIT II classes are offered for 13 and 14 year olds as a camp class each week. Campers have the option to sign up while at camp. Counselor Assistants The Counselor Assistant Program is designed for campers who wish to become camp counselors. Counselor Assistants must be 16 years of age before camp begins and need to complete an application. Prior participation in the Counselor-in-Training program is recommended, but not required. This highly selective program is the next step for campers to become paid staff. Accepted applicants will work on projects, assist with camp activities, and help staff give other campers the best week of their summer. Call the Camp Manager at for further details. Accommodations 4-H Camp Wabasso is located in the Indian Lakes region of Jefferson County and features 177 wooded acres, nature pond, and a half mile of sandy beach on Millsite Lake.

6 Accommodations 4-H Camp Wabasso is located in the Indian Lakes region of Jefferson County and features 177 wooded acres, nature pond, and a half mile of sandy beach on Millsite Lake. Campers are housed in cabins with a minimum of four other campers, depending on cabin size. Counselor/camper ratios are kept at all times. Cabins are screened and equipped with lights and smoke detectors. Beds and mattresses are provided with campers providing the bedding. Toilets and hot showers are located in the bathhouse. There are separate accommodations for boys and girls. Due to maturity levels and safety concerns, cabins are age-specific. There is at least an 8:1 camper/counselor ratio kept at all times. Since the camp is located in the woods, campers should not be surprised to find the occasional chipmunk under the cabin or spider in the bathroom. Meals Campers are provided with plentiful, freshly prepared, healthy meals each day. If your child has food allergies, please advise us on the health form. Duties Teamwork is encouraged while campers work together to keep their cabins and other common areas neat and clean. Campers are assigned to daily group chores that may include picking up papers, sweeping the floor, setting tables, and cleaning program areas. Living areas are inspected daily by the 4-H Camp Wabasso Health Coordinator. Camp has a fun tradition of giving out an award for the cleanest cabin. Ceremonies and Activities Campers participate in camp ceremonies, including flag raising, flag lowering, thanks before meals, and vespers (inspirational activities that end the day). Campers demonstrate decorum and respect during these activities while having fun. Homesickness Most campers are too busy having fun at camp to get homesick. Occasional homesickness for first-time campers is not unusual. If you receive a note from an unhappy camper, don t worry. In most cases by the time you receive this mail, your camper has already happily adjusted to camp life. The Trading Post The camp store is open each weekday and during registration and pick up. Campers may purchase 4-H Camp Wabasso merchandise, and one snack and one drink each day. Campers who wish to make purchases during their camp stay will place money on their store account during registration. As purchases are made, the cost will be deducted from their individual store account. Religious Services There are no religious services at camp. If desired, these should be attended at home before camp begins. Safety A security officer is on duty each night from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. during the camping season. The officer patrols the camp grounds to make sure camp is secure and campers are in their cabins. 6

REFUNDS The $100 per week reservation fee is not refundable under any circumstances. If you must cancel your child s reservation prior to the scheduled camp week, we will refund your payment minus the $100 reservation fee. Campers who do not attend their designated week of camp due to reasons other than a documented illness or family emergency will not be eligible for a refund. Upon arrival at camp, the camp medical staff will evaluate all campers. If the camper is too ill to attend camp, the parent must take the child home. A refund will be issued, minus the $100 registration fee. In the event that a camper becomes ill at camp and is sent home at the discretion of the camp medical staff, no refund will be issued.
