1 2018 PICCKM+ REGIONAL 4-H CAMP JUNE 25-28, 2018 (PICCKM+: PINE, ISANTI, CHISAGO, CARLTON, KANABEC, MILLE LACS AND OTHERS) Counselor Application Packet COUNSELORS DETAILS Any youth in grades 9 through one year past high school are invited to apply to become PICCKM+ Regional 4-H Camp Counselors. Applications will be accepted until March 1st. Counselors are the heart of summer camp! Camp counselors provide active, hands-on, fun and cooperative outdoor programming, lead cabin activities, and supervise all aspects of the campers day. Selected camp counselors plan camp and receive required counselor training. Counselors gain a wide variety of valuable life skills, from public speaking to program planning. Many past counselors have contributed the skills they gained as a camp counselor to aiding them in gaining employment, receiving scholarships, and being admitted to college. Counselors also have a lot of fun and gain lifelong friendships! COUNSELOR SELECTION PROCESS The PICCKM+ Camp Counselor Application process consists of the Counselor Application and applicant training held on Friday and Saturday, March at Kost Evangelical Church ( Kost Trail, North Branch, MN 55056). Items that will be covered include: training, team building, goal setting, roles and responsibilities, and theme planning. IMPORTANT: Bring your calendar (April, May and June) to this overnight as future meeting dates will be determined between now and the start of camp (June 25(. We ask that all applicants to mark future counselor training dates on their calendar once determined, and expect that you will make them a priority. If an unforseen or unavoidable conflict arises, please discuss this with JC Olson, Heidi Vanderloop or Danielle Ganje, the Counselor Coordinators, prior to the training date. Counselor acceptance letters will be mailed by March 30th. Consider what role you would like to stand for nomination in for the 2018 PICCKM+ Camp and come prepared at our first meeting to share why you should serve in this role! Depending on camp staff numbers, you may be asked to serve in multiple roles at camp. Youth Camp Director (2 people): Emcee of Camp, make announcements, schedule the day, assist at registration, Salute to Sun, available to respond to camper issues, support and assist other counselors as needed (Report to: Laura Ambrose, Camp Director & Jeremy Freeman, Marketing Coordinator). Adventure Coordinators (6-8 people): Plan and lead indoor and outdoor adventures, water activities and beach time (Report to: JC Johnson, Danielle Ganje, & Heidi Vanderloop Counselor Coordinators). Facilitators (8-10 people): Facilitate learning from activities, main relational connection to campers, plan cabin time, table fun and songs (Report to: JC Johnson, Danielle Ganje, & Heidi Vanderloop Counselor Coordinators). Camp Services (3-4 people): Set up camp, direct registration, coordinate kitchen duty, maintain cleanliness of camp, lead flag ceremonies, plan and lead campfire time, support staff led workshops (Report to: Laura Ambrose, Camp Director & Jeremy Freeman, Marketing Coordinator) If you need more space to answer any of these questions feel free at attach an extra sheet of paper! 1. 5 4-H CAMP COUNSELOR Contract and Code of Conduct Parents or guardians of 4-H youth, and the youth themselves participating in 4-H activities assume full responsibility for their child s health and safety. 4-H strives to provide a safe, positive learning environment for youth and adults. This includes expectations for conduct and behavior. Following the standards of behavior allows everyone to have fun, participate fully and take advantage of the educational and fun activities 4-H has to offer. Therefore we ask all counselors to abide by 4-H rules of conduct. GENERAL 4-H RULES AND EXPECTATIONS 1. Refrain from use of and/or possession of alcoholic beverages, tobacco products or other chemical substances at all times (includes members over 18; smoking will not be allowed at 4-H functions). 2. Recognize the rights of others with respect to noise, language and conduct. a. I will not exhibit disruptive behavior such as verbal abuse and physical actions. b. I will not use or possess weapons c. I will not exhibit sexual harassment or public display of sexual affections d. I understand that theft and vandalism will be treated as a serious action. e. I will refrain from boisterous behavior which may infringe on the rights of others and refrain from throwing objects that could cause injury to others. f. I will respect the property of others including clothing, personal items, equipment and facilities (damaged property will be billed to families where members are implicated) CAMP COUNSELOR 4-H RULES AND EXPECTATIONS 1. I will be punctual for camp activities, and will be responsible for maintaining my schedule at camp. 2. I understand that I am responsible for the campers assigned to my cabin. Therefore, I will remain in the cabin after lights out each evening, until wake-up call the next morning. 3. I understand that the counselor s free time is the night after camp is over. Serving as a camp counselor is my focus when the campers are present. 4. I understand that if I have an automobile at this activity, I will turn in my keys to the adult in charge during my stay at the event. I understand that I will obey the established curfew. 5. I will refrain from using my cell phone, tablet or other electronic device during camp and counselor training unless it is specifically needed for a project or emergency. I have read and accept the above policy and will abide by all the rules of conduct as stated. I also understand that my infraction of the behavioral rules will be sufficient cause for my participation at camp to be terminated, and for me to be sent home at my parent s expense.
