2 Letter from the Director Hello! I am honored to be returning as your Camp Director for a third summer at Camp Davis! The past two years have been such a special experience and I know we will have an amazing summer in 2013 as well. Over the past two years your camp staff, camp committee and I have been working hard to make this camp the experience of a lifetime. Through the friendships you make and the adventures you will have, it is our goal that your memories at Camp Davis will keep you smiling until the next summer and through all the summers of your life. We hope to grow and change with you through the years to ensure that the experiences we offer are the ones that mean the most to you. Within our walls and out on our fields, at the pool and at the playground on our beautiful Gordon Jewish Community Center campus; relationships are born that will last a lifetime. 6 $240/wk Early Bird Jan for 2012 Camp Davis Alum and GJCC Members Registration between Feb. 1 - Apr. 30 $255/wk Registration after May 1: $270/wk Camp Gesher (Bridges) Entering Kindergarten by August 30, 2013 We are so excited to welcome new campers as they emerge from Preschool each year. We understand that our younger campers need some TLC to help acclimate them to the bigger camp environment. So, we have a camp that s just right for them! Highly trained, nurturing staff and a daily schedule built around Gesher campers needs, while still allowing them to try their hands at new challenges, make Gesher the perfect introduction for our newest campers to the Camp Davis family! Gesher campers will enjoy a day full of fun and new challenges with exciting morning activities, such as Arts & Crafts and Israeli Culture, along with a nutritious morning snack and swim lessons. In the afternoon, Gesher campers will have the opportunity to have their voices heard and pick their own activities to attend with some of their friends! Gesher campers will also get the chance to enjoy their very own late night at camp during the summer, attend fun field trips each week, and make friendships that last a lifetime! Camp Shoresh (Roots) Entering 1st-3rd Grades Our Shoresh campers are a little older and ready for a little more adventure at camp. Shoresh campers will enjoy traditional arts and crafts, sports, and aquatic activities led by camp specialists and attend exciting off-site field trips. Older Shoresh (2nd-3rd) will have the opportunity to experience their first camp overnight, while our Shoresh campers entering 1st grade can look forward to a fun late night stay! Masa (Journey) Camp ($290/wk) Entering 4th 6th Grades Ready for some adventure this summer? Masa campers have the chance to hit the road and embark on something new each day. Monday through Thursday, Masa campers spend half their day at Camp Davis and the rest of the day will be spent on local field trips. On Fridays, Masa campers will enjoy special activities just for them such as a scavenger hunt, kickball tournament, or special camp visitors. Masa campers also have the opportunity to participate in an overnight during the summer. Leaders in Training (LIT) Camp Entering 7th 8th Grades Ralph Waldo Emerson famously said Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. The Leaders in Training will be given the tools and training they need to be leaders in camp and the community. LIT campers will participate in a variety of activities throughout the summer. Working in camp groups or with a specialist, learning leadership skills, meeting with various community leaders, participating in service projects, and taking an active role in all camp programming are just some of the experiences these teens will encounter. Participants will also assist in implementing the summer-long camp service theme; Shalom Bayit (Peace in the home {our camp home}). The teens will have a role in molding their summer to what is best for them. LIT campers will also have the opportunity to participate in a leadership retreat during the summer. The LIT Program will be led by BBYO Director and Assistant Camp Director, Sheri Rosenberg. Counselors in Training (CIT; $190/wk) Entering 9th 10th Grades Too old for traditional camp, but not quite ready to be a counselor? The Camp Davis CIT experience is a wonderful way to learn the skills you need to be a truly great camp counselor, while also having a blast. After starting the day off with morning leadership meetings, CITs will join their assigned camp groups to assist with daily activities. As the week goes on, CITs will have the opportunity to plan and coordinate some of their very own camp activities and group programs. CITs can also participate in various trainings throughout the summer; including a special CIT orientation and a CIT/LIT leadership retreat. The CIT Program will be led by BBYO Director and Assistant Camp Director, Sheri Rosenberg.

9 Morning Ruach: Each day at Camp Davis is filled with songs, games, and excitement! Campers spend each week competing in various ruach (spirit) contests to win the Ruach (Spirit) Stick, a huge Camp Davis honor! Our morning ritual kicks each day off with a bang with cheers, songs, and games. Morning Activities: Traditional campers (campers in Gesher and Shoresh) spend their mornings engaged in a variety of special activities with our expert instructors such as: Arts & Crafts, Dance, Drama, Music, Nature, Israeli Culture, and more! Lunch: At Camp Davis, lunch is a very important part of the day. At this time, we all sit down and eat a hot, Kosher, family style lunch together every day. It is a wonderful time to truly experience the Camp Davis family feeling, as we all take a break from our day and enjoy a meal together. *ALL CAMPERS ARE PROVIDED FREE LUNCH EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK! Chugs: Chugs (choices) are a time in the day when all campers (both traditional and specialty camps) get to choose their activities. Chugs offered change every week and include activities such as: Arts and Crafts, Sports, Slip n Slide, Water Games, and much more! Campers have the opportunity to choose their chugs first thing in the morning each Monday. Chug activities are a great opportunity for our campers to have some independence and craft the day that is most exciting for them! *While we value the opportunity for our campers to be independent in their chug choices, if there is something you feel we should be aware of with regard to your child s afternoon activities, please do not hesitate to contact us. Please keep in mind that rest period is an option for all campers Monday through Thursday. (Rest Period is not offered on Friday because of special Friday activities.) While campers may not choose rest time themselves, we welcome your input if your camper who would benefit from some rest time during his/her camp day. Instructional Swim: Campers in Gesher and Shoresh will participate in Instructional Swim every morning (except for most field trip days) which will be taught by our highly trained and certified swim instructors from the GJCC Swim Academy. One of the main goals of Camp Davis is to give all campers the opportunity to learn swimming and pool safety each summer. With that in mind, we understand that each child learns at their own pace and will work with campers based on where they are and how ready they are to advance in their swimming skills. (Additional swim lessons are available through the GJCC Swim Academy for a fee.) Free Swim: Free swim will be offered as a chug each afternoon and campers will have the opportunity to swim each day if they desire. Campers will participate in a swim test on their first day at camp and will be given a brightly colored bracelet to indicate their swimming level. This will indicate what areas of the pool are open to them so that the lifeguards and camp staff can be more aware of each camper s swimming ability. Campers will have the opportunity to retest on Mondays in order to gain another color bracelet. Field Trips: Campers in Gesher, Shoresh, and Masa (and some specialty camps that are held off-site) have the opportunity to go on field trips each week. For Gesher and Shoresh, our field trip day is on Wednesdays; Masa field trips are Monday through Thursday. Campers are required to wear their Camp Davis t-shirts on field trip days. Each Gesher, Shoresh and specialty camper will receive one t-shirt at the beginning of camp. Masa campers will receive two t-shirts. Additional t-shirts are available for purchase in the camp office for $5. Waivers or permission slips may be required for some field trips. These will be available at the beginning of the week before camp begins and must be submitted in order to participate in the field trips.

From rock climbing to skateboarding, we will have a blast trying out new challenges every day in exciting off-campus field trips. Basic Swim Camp Week 2: 6/3 6/7 Entering K 3rd Week 3: 6/10-6/14 All Sports Week 2: 6/3 6/7 Entering 2nd 6th Love sports and can t decide which one you want to play? Play them all! This week campers will get a chance to play all their favorite sports while learning to play as a team and remembering that having fun is what it s all about! Sports will include (but are not limited to) basketball, kickball, soccer, and our end of week obstacle course. We ll have a blast in our full-size gym and on our beautiful sports fields all week long! This wildly popular camp fills up fast, so don t miss out! Basic Swim campers will learn how to float, blow bubbles, and coordinate arm and leg movements. Basic Swim camp strives to start swimmers on their way to using proper strokes for freestyle and backstroke. The camp will be taught by the GJCC Swim Academy Staff in our beautiful Olympic size swimming pool. It s a great way to start the summer! Water Sports Camp Week 4: 6/17 6/21 Entering 2nd 6th Enjoy a week of getting wild in the water as we try our hand at a variety of fun water games. From relays and races to water basketball and the wildly popular Splashball we will get to experience a whole new way to have fun in the sun as we stay cool in the pool! Rising Stars Entering K 1st Jr. Maccabiah; Week 6: 7/1 7/5 Floor Hockey; Week 7: 7/8 7/11 All Sports; Week 9: 7/22 7/26 In Rising Stars sports camps, younger campers have the opportunity to develop skills and learn the thrill of just playing the game as they try their hands at a variety of sports throughout the summer.

11 Junior Maccabiah (Olympics) Sports Camp Week 8: 7/15 7/19 Entering 2nd 6th Table tennis, volleyball, soccer and more! This week we will have a blast exploring all the fun of the Olympic sports! The week will culminate with our own Mini Maccabiah (Olympics), including a medal ceremony! Tennis Week 6: 7/1 7/5 Entering 2nd 6th This popular camp is back for another year as tennis pros help campers perfect their swing and have a blast playing in the sun! Playground Palooza! Week 9: 7/22 7/26 Entering 2nd 6th Kickball, tag, red rover and more! We will have a blast with old-school playground games while learning all about team building and staying active. We will also make up new games of our own! This camp is sure to be full of laughter and fun! Survivor Week 10: 7/29 8/1 Entering 3rd 8th From learning survival skills to outdoor adventures, this week will be full of outdoor fun! Be sure to pack your bug spray, hiking boots, and all your courage as we take on the wild outdoors in daily off-site field trips.

This theater camp is perfect for our youngest thespians as they read their favorite stories and take center stage with them! This year we have two weeks to double our fun. Old Fashioned Fairy Tales Week 5: 6/24 6/28 Disney Tales Week 7: 7/8 7/12 Glee Week 2: 6/3 6/7 Entering 2nd 6th Make your dreams come true and get your own GLEE experience as we sing and dance the day away. We ll spend the week learning to sing and dance like our favorite GLEE stars and then put on our own performance for camp and parents! Dance Week 4: 6/17 6/21 Entering 2nd 6th Week 9: 7/22 7/26 Get ready to bust a move and shake your booty in this awesome camp as we put our dance steps to music and have fun all week long! Project Runway: Fashion Camp Week 5: 6/24 6/28 Entering 2nd 8th Are you dreaming of being Coco Chanel or Michael Kors? Get out your sewing machines because in Project Runway your dreams will come true! Learn all about what it takes to design clothes as you learn how to sketch, sew, and put together your own designs. A fashion show ends the week. Broadway Stars Weeks 7&8: 7/8 7/19 Entering 2nd 8th (must register for both weeks) Grab your scripts and jump on stage! Another great summer production is ready to go! Join us in a hilarious production of Gooney Bird Greene and Her True Adventures! These two weeks will be spent on theater games, learning about projection and stage presence, and working on another great show! All our hard work will culminate in an evening performance for family and friends on July 18th and an afternoon performance for camp on July 19th.

From explosive experiments to amazing discoveries, the week will be fun of scientific fun! RockSTAR Entering 2nd 6th Week 3: 6/10 6/14 Get ready to rock as we learn how to keep a beat, play an instrument, and be a rock STAR! Camp culminates with a live show for camp, friends, and family. Mr. Bond Space Camp Entering 2nd 8th Week 3: 6/10 6/14 Blast off to the moon as we spend the week learning about the planets and stars and build our own rockets! Mr. Bond Mini Bizarre Science Entering K 1st Week 4: 6/17 6/21 A version of our popular science camp for a younger age group. Campers will have hair-raising fun in this camp with (safe) explosive experiments! Have a blast learning about all the atomic fun you can have with science. LEGO Builders Entering K 3rd Week 5: 6/24 6/28 Week 8: 7/15 7/19 Calling all future architects! No need for hammers and nails as we spend the week creating some truly amazing LEGO constructions. Mr. Bond CSI Camp Entering 2nd 8th Week 5: 6/24 6/28 Learn all about fingerprinting, spotting the clues, and so much more in this Crazy Science Investigations Camp! Mr. Bond Geo-Blast Entering 2nd 8th Week 7: 7/8 7/12 The World under your Feet...We use a 10 x 20 Dymaxion map for the kids to discover where things are in the world as we embark on total global exploration together! & Brain Builders Camps are $270/wk BRAIN BUILDERS CAMPS Mr. Bond Rocketry Camp Entering 2nd 8th Week 8: 7/15 19 Kids learn about rocketry, propulsion building and launching their own rocket. We have had launches go over 1000 feet up to space!

Join us as we search for buried treasures, build our own pirate ships, and learn how to walk and talk like pirates all week long! Just don t get too distracted by your pirate s booty, or you ll end up walking the plank! Princess Camp Entering K 1st Week 8: 7/15 7/19 Put on your tiara and grab your party dress, it s time to be treated like royalty! Enjoy a week of princess pampering, including your very own princess photo shoot! This will be a week to remember when we have our cake and eat it too! Circus Camp Entering K 8th Week 10: 7/30 8/3 This insanely popular camp is back for another summer! From juggling and clowning to ribbon dancing and hooping, we will have a blast as we all run off to the circus for a week!

15 Other Summer offerings at the GJCC... Camp K Toni June 3 - July 26 Camp K Toni is your 2-4 year old s summer destination for non-stop good times! Your little camper will experience weekly themed-activities, special guests, and tons of other summertime fun led by dedicated and experienced early childhood education professionals. Swim lessons are offered two to three times a week in our state-of-the-art outdoor saltwater pool and our new playground lends itself to fun water play every day. With the option to sign up by week or by number of days that you need, there is no reason not to give your child the gift of K toni this summer. Camp K Toni is a part of the Early Childhood Learning Center (ECLC). Camp K Toni will be closed on July 4. Contact Melissa Worthington at melissa@nashvillejcc.org or GJCC Swim Academy Nashville s Premiere Swim Facility offers your children the best in everything they need to know about the water -- from the basics to stroke styles to water safety. Our certified staff is trained to work with children starting at any level. The ultimate goal? A fun, safe summer and to swim with the GJCC TigerSharks! Contact Yvonne Hall at yvonne@nashvillejcc.org or Israeli Visitors at Camp: Each year Camp Davis is honored to host a group of Israelis, from the two shlichim who stay with us all summer to the four Hadera Teens who stay for two weeks, we have great fun learning and sharing with our guests from Israel. It s very important that our guests feel welcome and comfortable during their stay in Nashville and their time at Camp Davis. We rely on our Camp Davis family to help us with that. We would love for you and your family to host an Israeli guest in your home for as little as one week to as long as one month. Let us know if you are interested! Special Camp Events: Please keep an eye on the camp calendar as the summer progresses for our many special camp events. Some events include parents and families and notices will go home at the beginning of the week for each event to remind you of these upcoming events. Keep your eyes peeled for our delicious spaghetti supper and Broadway Stars performance July 18, open to all Camp Davis families! (Camp performances on Fridays from some specialty camps.) Shabbat and Camp T-shirt Fridays: Every Friday at camp is a special day and is set apart from the rest of the week. Each Friday campers will enjoy special activities as well as an exciting Shabbat program at the end of the day. We ask that all campers wear their camp t-shirts on Fridays. Camp Mitzvah Project: This year Camp Davis campers and staff will again participate in a summer-long mitzvah project. Our mitzvah theme this summer will be Shalom Bayit (Peace in the Home {our camp home}) and we will spend our summer learning about our camp community as well as our Nashville community and how to bring peace to each place we call home. Inclusion: Camp Davis is happy to include campers of all abilities in our camp family. We welcome campers with special needs and strive to have these campers participate in all aspects of camp. However, we are unable to provide individual aides for campers. In order for your child to make the most of their camp experience, it is necessary that you and your child meet with the camp staff prior to registration. This meeting is important to make sure that camp staff understand the best way to work with your child.
