1 VILLAGE OF BRIARCLIFF MANOR NOTES FROM THE VILLAGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES December 2015 VILLAGE MANAGER S REPORT (914) Happy New Year! On behalf of the Mayor and Board of Trustees, I would like to convey our best wishes now and into In addition, they also asked me to share with you several high impact projects that in process. First and foremost, we have jumped into the restoration of our fire damaged Law Park Pavilion and separately we fully expect to have the pool and related facilities up and running by Memorial Day. The Community Center is targeted for opening at the end of February while the Comfort Station and Pump House at the Club should be open, up and running by Spring s field opening. There are several road related projects in the offing: lengthy stretches of Pleasantville are subject to upgrade and repaving; the Pocantico River Bridge is to be replaced; and of significant interest our VBM lead efforts to redesign and have the Route 9A/North State Road intersection improvements are moving from the planning stages to reality. Once our Community Center is open, we intend to move on the renovation of Chilmark Park with updated plans; and we continue to seek out funding for Scarborough Park. 5 (914) RECYCLING RULES & REGULATIONS ORGANIC WASTE BAGGED LEAVES & GRASS CLIPPINGS: Bagged leaves at curbside are picked up from April 1 st to November 1 st, on your Recycle Wednesday. You must use brown paper bags only: no cardboard boxes, plastic bags, etc. From November 1 st to January 1 st, your bagged leaves will be picked up during the Village s bulk leaf pick-up program, (not on your recycle Wednesday). From January 1 st to February 1 st, bags will be picked up only on your Recycle Wednesday. No bags will be picked up from February 1 st to April 1 st. BULK LEAVES: Bulk leaf pick up at the curbside starts about October 15 th and ends on January 1 st : this is seasonal based on the leaf drop. Bulk leaves (including bagged leaves), must be placed within the Village s Right Of Way (usually the first 10 feet from the road edge): not in the road. We cover the Village in a series of several laps, each taking between two to three weeks to complete. We do not respond to scheduling requests: and continue pick up until complete. Do not mix sticks or brush with leaves. Once the final lap is complete, bulk leaf pick up kicks into the schedule for bagged leaves, above. You can also drop off leaves at DPW or provide a note for your landscaper to drop them off on your behalf. BRUSH: Branches must be less than 6 in diameter and cut to 5 or less in length and TIED in manageable bundles. Small loose brush must be placed in paper bags for curbside pick up on Recycle Wednesday. Brush pick-up will be suspended annually from November 1 st to January 1 st. Brush will be picked up with Christmas trees in January and suspended from February 1 st, until April 1 st. LOGS: Logs and brush in excess of 6 diameter and longer than 5 will not be picked up. You will have to make other arrangements for disposal. CHRISTMAS TREES: Christmas trees are picked up from January 1 st to February 1 st at the curbside on your Recycle Wednesday. NOTE: All organic waste material meeting the above criteria can be dropped off by you or your landscaper (with a note from you) at the DPW yard at 10 Buckhout Road, all year, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Residents and landscapers must sign in at the DPW office.

Comingle material must be placed curbside in a container no larger than 32 gallons. ACCEPTED NOT ACCEPTED Metal food/beverage cans Paint cans Plastic toys Aluminum trays Metal chemical cans Kitchenware Aluminum foil Metal coat hangers Window glass Aerosol cans Plastic bags Plastics coded 1 through 7 Flower pots (Food and household containers) Styrofoam Glass food/beverage containers Plastic chemical containers PAPER AND CARDBOARD MATERIALS: Will be picked up on your Recycle Wednesday. Paper must be placed curbside and in a container (No larger than 14 gallons), or in a small cardboard box, paper bags or in small tied bundles. ACCEPTED Newspaper Envelopes & junk mail Magazines Cereal & tissue boxes Cardboard boxes (Flattened) Pizza boxes NOT ACCEPTED Hard cover books Paperback books Milk cartons Wrapping paper PAINT: Paint in cans must be hardened prior to disposal. Open cans and harden paint by one of these methods: Kitty litter, Speedy dry absorbent or Waste paint hardener. Leave lids off and dispose of dried cans in a garbage bag placed at the curb on your garbage pick-up day. METAL/ELECTRONIC E-WASTE: All metal and e-waste will be picked up Only by Appointment on your Recycle Wednesday. Bulk metal or large e-waste items require a $30.00 fee for pick up. The $30.00 fee will be waived if these items are transported to the D.P.W. for disposal by the resident. The facility is located on the Grassland s Campus, 15 Woods Road, Valhalla, NY.
