Join Boy Scout Troop 573 Saturday for a great Spaghetti dinner to raise money for their troop. Big Pine United Methodist Church at 5 p.m. Christina s Courage needs you: Volunteers needed for 5K Thank you Sheriff Ramsay From Polly Deihl, Jail Records Shift Supervisor When something happens in our families, we become consumed with getting through it and feel isolated from our friends & work, so much so, we feel alone in our circumstances. The MCSO has always expressed families first!! I didn t realize how much that is true until recently when my family had a health issue. Not only did our HR dept. guide me through the steps, and COT 52 started this week Front Row, left to right: Patrick Polynice, Jeremy Jarvis, Katia Chacon, Stacy Johnston, Yasmin Oats, Cesar Martinez. Back Row, left to right: Micah Magwood, Israel Rodriguez, Edward Vargas, Reynol Dominguez, Juan Valdes, Ricardo Aristil. Saturday February 11th is our 3rd annual 5k benefitting Christina s Courage the only Rape and Child Abuse Center in the County. We need volunteers to help make this race a success. The race starts at 0800, we need volunteers from 0700 to If you can help please Major Tim Age. Capt. Sweeney called to check on us, but our very own Sheriff, Rick Ramsay, personally called me to ask how we were and express his best wishes we have over 500 people working at MCSO from Plantation Key to Key West and our sheriff took the time to call us!!! WE truly have an amazing agency and I am proud to work with some of the finest people in the Florida Keys!! And I wanted to thank our Sheriff for always going above and beyond to express, not only are families first at MCSO, but that we are all a part of his family at the Monroe County Sheriffs Office.
2 Traffic Deputy John McGee did a safety presentation for the Air Operations Command at NAS Boca Chica this week. Our deputies helping out during a fund-raiser for the Safety Patrol program at Key Largo School. SRO Deputy Will Schlegelmilch reading to a class of kids during Literacy Week. Deputies Shannon O Connell and Joshua Baer enjoyed working at the Marathon Family Fun Fest this past weekend! A group of students from the Montessori Ocean Studies Charter School visited the Roth Building. They had the opportunity to meet McGruff, got a tour of the building and got to sit in a patrol car while they were there. 3 Farmer Jeanne, Mo and all her animals have been busy this week. Here they are at the Marathon Family Fun Fest! Records Clerk Roma Hartley was nominated for an Unsung Heroes award by the board of directors of Christina s Courage for all she does to raise money for the Rape Crisis Center. Congratulations and great job, Roma! This adorable child, and future Sheriff s Office employee, is the granddaughter of Sgt. Tom Walker, Kyla Rose Doughtry. The Sheriff s Office and the Stock Island Detention Center in particular are saying goodbye to Detention Finance Assistant Wanda Martin who is moving on to greener pastures. Many people will miss her as she retires...just two in particular are Sergeants Victor Arguello and Darlene McCloud, saying goodbye on the left. The blue wig in the photo below refers to the fact that Wanda plans to live in a 55+ community after she leaves here - she is joining the blue hairs according to Major Tim Age. 4 Communications trainee Jonathan Goolsby brought his daughter Precilla and son Bryan to work for Bring your daughter to work day recently...and it was even his day off! Sheriff Rick Ramsay wrote this letter of appreciation to Property Appraiser Susan Anisko who took the time to swear in and notarize oaths of office for our communications officers. Here she is with Lt. Charlene Sprinkle. Sgt. Syd Whitehouse s shift found some large graffiti behind a closed business at the 102 mile marker in Key Largo. They covered it over using paint and supplies donated by Public Works. Working on the project was Deputies Ignacio Molina, Jean Gonzalez and Dave Campbell. On the right, Deputy Ignacio Molina gives a thumbs up as he and the rest of his shift remove some tires dumped in a wooded area near Lignumvitae Road. Deputies Shannon O Connell and Russel Hull found a trash can turned over and spent time picking up the trash that had spilled. That is in the true spirit of Community Service! Weekly Rap Up - Page 4
5 Cleaning up in Layton and on Duck Key Great turnout for cleanup projects in Layton and on Duck Key this past week. Many people from the Sheriff s Office as well as the two communities turned out. For the Bryans and the Colemans it was a family affair! In Layton, they collected 1,440 pounds of trash and on Duck Key, they picked up 1,200 pounds of trash. And fun was had by all! Cadets and Junior Explorers in the Upper Keys have been busy continuing their law enforcement education. On the left, SROs Dave Stark and Larry O Neill gave them an orientation, going over weapons and equipment used by deputies as well as what each is used for. On the right, Deputy Stark posed as a confused elderly man as the students learned how to handle radio calls, respond to situations, and follow proper radio procedures. Weekly Rap Up - Page 5
