6 What is Sun Rideshare? Sun Rideshare assists Pima county residents in finding affordable, reliable, and convenient transportation options for their daily commute and personal travel needs, through: Carpooling Sun Tran, Sun Shuttle, Sun Express, Sun Link Biking Vanpooling Walking Telecommuting An online matching travel database provides commuter services for people interested in sharing the ride, finding the best bus route and more.

7 What is the Travel Reduction Program (TRP)? In short, TRP is: A program that mirrors Sun Rideshare with additional program requirements, mandated by travel reduction ordinances. History In the 1980s, Tucson had air quality problems with carbon monoxide (CO) and was in nonattainment As part of the air quality plan to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), local Travel Reduction Ordinances (TROs) were adopted in 1989 and written into the air quality plan for CO. All the local municipalities and Pima County have a TRO TRP required at least until 2020

8 Travel Reduction Ordinance Purpose: Recognize that motor vehicles are the single greatest contributor to air pollution Improve air quality Reduce traffic congestion by increasing alternate mode usage Reduce overall motor vehicle travel for commute trips Mission: Target commute trips Routine Longer distances Regulations exist that allow incentives Employers can assist in outreach and subsidies

9 Current TRO Program Requirements Who must Comply? Employers with 100+ employees at one location 1) Assign a Transportation Coordinator 3) Employee Survey 2) Disseminate Information to Employees 4) Activity Inventory Report What are the 4 minimum TRO requirements? 1) Assign a Transportation Coordinator (TC) 2) Disseminate information to employees 3) Submit an Employee Survey every 4 years 4) Submit an Activity Inventory Report (AIR) every year

13 3) Annual Employee Survey 8-question survey submitted online 1) Assign a Transportation Coordinator 3) Employee Survey 2) Disseminate Information to Employees 4) Activity Inventory Report Beginning in 2014 the employee survey will be done each year in the same month TC will receive an online link 2 weeks before survey date Reminders and survey counts are sent out intermittently during the survey month

14 3) Annual Employee Survey 1) Assign a Transportation Coordinator 2) Disseminate Information to Employees 3) Employee Survey 4) Activity Inventory Report Online link will be active for one month, activated the 1 st of the survey month Must be submitted via online link Hard copies and Spanish version available, but submittals must be electronic Recommended response rate is 50% Results Report will be issued within 30 days of completion of the survey

17 4) Activity Inventory Report This is your annual plan for the travel reduction activities being done and planned for in the report year 1) Assign a Transportation Coordinator 3) Employee Survey 2) Disseminate Information to Employees 4) Activity Inventory Report AIR is sent out each year on May 1 and must be completed by May 31 Must be submitted via online link If the AIR Survey is not completed by the deadline your company may face an enforcement action by the relevant jurisdiction

18 4) Activity Inventory Report Each year you create a new username and password when you register 1) Assign a Transportation Coordinator 3) Employee Survey 2) Disseminate Information to Employees 4) Activity Inventory Report Each question must be completed fully before progressing to the next question You can log off at any time and return later to complete You cannot print the completed form but it will be ed to you after it has been received Pay attention to: Q4 (GRH) Q5 (Dissemination of information) Q9 (Rideshare matching system)

55 There were quite a few mornings when it was raining, cold or otherwise cruddy out that caused my enthusiasm to cycle in to work to waver, but I had a goal to qualify for this contest so I pulled on an extra layer of insulation and got out on the road. So while I am not a new commuter, I can say that the incentive program has been effective in keeping me out of my car on days where I otherwise might have driven in alone.
