2 So. Cal. Area Spring Family Adventure April 11 th thru 15 th Images from the Mighty Mojave

3 The Mojave National Preserve Enjoy a three to five day multi-troop, troop multi-tier spring time family adventure The whole family can enjoy visiting Route 66, cavalry outposts, museums, abandon mines, gold processing plant, train depots, sand dunes, lava fields, and famous eateries 20 miles of day hikes for all, while the Mt Lions, Navigators, and Adventurers, will enjoy a 12 to 30 mile backpack k trip over rugged, high h desert terrain visiting additional sites

4 Day One - April 11 th All Troops rendezvous at Dairy Queen in Ludlow for lunch between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM before a car based tour of Route 66 ghost town of Ludlow Then travel to the Mojave Desert museum at Goffs to inspect mining, i train, and WWII training i artifacts t Finally, travel to overnight at ruins of Ft. Piute, located on the famous Mojave Road; a silver stage coach route between Ft. Mojave on the Colorado river in Nevada and Los Angels. This eighteen man cavalry outpost was positioned at the only year round spring in the entire 60 X 80 mile preserve Car shuttling will be necessary for everyone not using a SUV, Truck, or 4X4 vehicle

5 Day Two April 12 th For early risers, conduct a three mile exploratory hike of Piute Spring area before breaking camp Early afternoon will find us exploring Vanderbilt, a gold mining complex complete with abandon processing plant Late afternoon, Mt. lions, Navigators, and Adventurers are dropped off at Mid-Hills for an 8 mile overnight backpack to Wild Horse Mesa Foxes, Hawks, and all other family members will head to Hole in the Wall for a campfire and star gazing!

6 Day Three April 13 th Foxes, Hawks, and all other family members do the famous Hole in the Wall Rings hike and search for Indian petroglyphs, gy while the Mt Lion scale Wild Horse Mesa and hike 4 miles to rendezvous at Hole in the Wall Navigators and Adventurers will hike five mile over very rugged dterrain to visit itsilver King mine, before a rende ezvous with the Woodland Unit and all family members at Bonanza King mine for lunch, resupply, and worship service After worship, everyone other than high adventure qualified Adventurers and adult will drive to Kelso Dunes for a training i modules and overnight High adventurer qualified Adventurers and adults will hike 7 miles to Vulcan open pit mine to overnight (warning, this is extremely challenging terrian)

7 Day Four - April 14 th High adventure qualified Adventurers and adults hike miles to meet everyone else at Kelso Dunes trailhead At over 600 feet, Kelso Dunes is the tallest sand dune in North America. The three mile round trips easily takes the effort of a six mile hike. Foxes and Hawks can hike to the base and have a lot of fun in the sand; however, it is not suitable for them to hike to the top After Lunch, we have choices! You can either do a 2 mile round trip hike to visit Rex Mine (uber cool) or visit the Kelso Depot museum Finally, we will drive to the lava fields to barbecue, enjoy togetherness around a big campfire, and overnight at Five Tanks near the famous Lave Tubes 8

8 Day Five - April 15 th A five mile round trip hike to explore the Lave Tubes and Atkens open strip mine. Our five day adventure concludes with lunch at the Mad Greek in Baker, before heading home!

9 Wrapping up the Mojave! Starting early morning on Friday the 11 th, all troop ps travel to Ludlow and begin the Event together. At convenient junctures in the itinerary, participants can return home Sunday the 13 th, Monday the 14 th, or Tuesday the 15 th. Total cost per person to cover all expenses, gas, food, road meals, and fees is approximately $50.00 to $75.00 per person depending on duration of the chosen segment A final planning/coordination meeting will be conducted by all Adventurers and Troop Committee representatives March 8 th from 8:00 am to noon at Calvary Chapel of Pasadena, 2200 E. Colorado Blvd, Pasadena A Dodge Ball Tournament will be conducted for Woodland and Navigator Units and adult Outdoor training for Unit Leaders and Trail Guides during the planning/coordination meeting A $5.00 fee will be charged for this event to cover contact John Slagboom at JDSRobot@gmail.com light lunch and fund the Area budget.
