1 October 2011 r1 THE PRESIDENT S REPORT Wow - October already! Where did the summer go? Soon it will be time to start raking leaves and really get serious about signing up for Goodyear s 2012 ski trips. Warren Ripple and the Trip Committee have put together another great slate of weeklong and one-day trips for our enjoyment. Sign up now to insure your spot on the trips. Don t get shut out. There are a whole bunch of exciting events on our social calendar thru the end of December. Check out Vice President Larisa Simays listing of all of the events. I m sure there is some event you would like to attend. Note that the Road Rally has been rescheduled for Saturday, October 22 nd. Cheryl Gray, our Local Ski Night Representative, needs your help manning (or womaning) our booth at the annual Boston Mills Open House. It is scheduled from 10/ See Cheryl for signup information. The Club s annual Christmas Raffle will be held at our Christmas party on 12/13/2011. As in the past, tickets will be sold $1 for one ticket, or 6 tickets for $5. Tickets will go on sale during the Swap Shop, and will continue to be sold thru the evening of the raffle - or until all tickets are sold. We printed 1500 tickets this year. Remember that the proceeds from this raffle help fund the Christmas party and other free events. Once again, Buckeye Sports has donated a pair of skis as our grand prize. The Club will have nine other major prizes to be drawn. They include cash prizes of $100, $50, and $25; a $75 gas card; a $50 Buckeye Sports gift card; a $25 Lowe s gift card; a $25 Dick s Sporting Goods gift card; a 5 th of premium spirits; and a bottle of Asti Spumante. There is also a secondary drawing of merchandise (hats, ski trips, jackets, etc) that has been donated by our various ski industry friends. Get your raffle tickets now. I would like to thank the many volunteers that signed up to work the Swap Shop. The more hands available, the easier the job is for all -Thanks. The results of the Swap Shop will be announced in next month s newsletter. Hope to see you at our general meeting, at a social event, or on a ski trip. Remember, now is the time to continue your workouts to insure you are strong for the upcoming ski and board season. 2 Sat., 9/10/11 For the first time in 4 years, we had some rain on our parade! It POURED at 3PM, and was still pouring as the first wine tasters were arriving at 4PM. The early arrivers helped my set up crew (my sister and brother-in-law) move the food and wine tables into the garages, while I anchored the two canopies we had set up in the yard. By 5PM, all was well. The wine was flowing. and the rain was not. Tasters drifted in all evening. We had a nice group, less than last year, but a lively group indeed! Our evening consisted of eating the noshes offered by the attendees, drinking some nice wines from a large assortment of varieties, and conversing. There were a lot of interesting discussions on a large variety of topics; Of course, skiing was a primary theme, but we did solve some of the country s problems. Now if only someone would listen to us, and bring our ideas to fruition. We had a nice warm fire going that eventually spread the group around. Before that, they all hovered near the house, under the canopies, on the covered part of the deck, or in the garages. Oh, head count? Somewhere near 50 people joined us. Dead bottle count was 38, with 5 not so dead leftovers. The food offerings were sensational, as always. The parking lot suffered some with the rain and the traffic, but nothing that more rain, more traffic, and Mother Nature won t right with a little time. Thanks to all of you who fought the rain in transit, arrived safely, and joined us for another good time. We loved having you!
