Canandaigua, NY rstearn1@rochester.rr.com Greetings Folks, President s Message June 2016 I hope everyone s summer is off to a great start. With all the shows and cruise-ins there is certainly no lack of attractions to keep all of us busy and entertained. I know it has been said before many times, but I will say it again. As a club we need the active participation of all our members. Certainly the main event for all of us is our August car show and everyone has to pitch in. So far we are doing alright. GVACS has canceled their annual show this year due in part to a lack of man power. But there is so much more. Our monthly meetings are important to keep abreast of the latest news and events concerning our club and attendance has been great but, how about the other club events? There are the outings to area nursing home facilities and several day trips have been planned. In order to make these events successful, we need the involvement of our members. Some of the proposed trips were canceled due to poor response. We also need to find a way to grow our membership. Your officers and board members can not do it alone. On a personal note, as your co-editor, I am in need of pictures of your pride and joy for our outer cover. Enough from my soap box. We have kept this issue of the Headliner a bit shorter than normal to give our readers more time to enjoy the beautiful weather. Have a great summer and we will see you soon. 1

2 Secretary s Minutes June 15, 2016 MINUTES The meeting was held at Phelps Community Center and opened at 7:32 pm by President Dick Stearns, beginning with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. 27 members were present. SECRETARY REPORT A motion was made to accept the minutes from May. Joel Neal made the motion and Marion O Neil seconded, the motion carried. TREASURER REPORT Rita Canavan recapped the status of our treasury. Motion was made by Ann Neal, seconded by Matt Canavan, the motion carried. SPEAKER - Janie Burgess, Executive Director, Phelps Community Center gave us an overview regarding the development of the Center. It is a stand alone center which is a separate and not for profit entity. It is not funded by any tax programs. They generate their own funding by writing grants and offering substantial program space to various groups, (Police, Food Cupboard, Business Development, Cycling Massage Therapy, Etc.). They have expanded to incorporating the area of Health Benefits which people can use based on their own health insurance programs. This has generated 385 fitness members who use the building now. There is a certified food safe commercial Kitchen available for rent. The programs are open to anyone. Scheduling of all they have to offer is the most problematic issue she has had to deal with in the last 6 years. BOARD OF DIRECTORS Matt Canavan received information regarding payment of the Annual Insurance for the Club Officers which is due at this time. He will process it. SHOW COMMITTEE George O neil, announced there are only 8 weeks left until the car show. He will address additional aspects of the show at the Ice Cream Party which is being held at Matt and Rita s on the Lake in Dresden. He has mailed out 425 flyers, including one (1) additional one for posting/ sharing. MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE Report will resume when Hank Goellner returns. CONCERNS FOR MEMBERS & CORRESPON- DENCE RECEIVED Dorothy Marino is in Strong. Jim Duffy is not doing too well. BUY, SELL OR TRADE No items to address at this time. OLD BUSINESS (10:00 7/17/16) Ann Rapp would like a head count for the Wizard of Clay and Schooners restaurant. The group will meet at the Eye Care center next to the Hospital in Canandaigua Sunday, July 17 th, at 10:00 am. (6:30PM, 7/20/16) Ice Cream Social: bring toppings and a chair if it is manageable. You can park up at the top and a golf cart will be available to take you to the house down below. NEW BUSINESS The August meeting will be the second Wednesday, 8/10/16, starting at 7:pm since the Center closes at 8:30PM and there will be many details to cover for the Car Show. JULY MEETING: Refreshments none needed. 3 Wizard of Clay tour July 17 th Looking Ahead Meet at the Eye Care Center, 325 West Street, Canandaigua, by the Thompson Hospital at 10am. We will take County Road 32, Bristol Road, to Fisher Hill Road. Go right on Fisher Hill Road to the stop sign and turn left on Route 20A. Follow Rt. 20A to the Wizard of Clay, 7581 Rt. 20A in the town of Bristol. It is about a half hour ride one way. Directions to Canavans for the Meeting/Ice Cream Social July 20 th We were thinking that the meeting should begin at 7:00pm so folks can leave with plenty of daylight remaining. Perry Point Road is off of Route 14 as it runs parallel to the west side of Seneca Lake. It is about 12 miles south of Belhurst Castle. A good indicator that you're getting close is a flashing yellow light where Route 54 crosses Route 14. Perry Point Road is about a mile beyond this intersection, only on the left (there is a sign for Ferro Electronics at the corner). Your GPS may want to take you beyond this to Hansen Point Road, but ignore it and turn left onto Perry Point. We are at the very end of the road, just about 2 miles. There is a steep left turn near the end as you approach the lake. If you are coming from of Penn Yan, go west on Route 54 to Route 14 (about 4 miles). Then go right on Route 14 and Perry Point is about one mile on the left (look for the Ferro sign). Parking should not be an issue, but we'll have a couple of golf carts with drivers for transportation from the barn above if need be (it will be clearly marked). Our Sympathies Long time member Jim Duffy passed away on June 20 th. Jim always had a welcome smile and a good word for everyone and could be counted on for help when ever and where ever it was needed. He will be sorely missed. New Model T Ford $450 Loaf of bread 5 Average annual income $577 Velie was a brass era American automobile make produced by the Velie Motors Corporation in Moline, Illinois from 1908 to The company was founded by and named for Willard Velie, a maternal grandson of John Deere. Velie production averaged about 5,000 cars a year, peaking at 9,000 in 1920 The Velie Register, started in 1993, is dedicated to finding and tracking all existing Velie cars and trucks. This register acts as a source on specifications, vehicle identification, company history, family information, news and events, and related stories. Velie owners are a small, select group comprised of 194 owners and their 221 vehicles worldwide. 180 cars are listed as running or restored and 41 are parts cars. There are also 8 trucks listed. This car was found by Harold Philippar in poor but running condition in a junkyard in Sturgis, SD in the 1950 s. It was sold to Gene Largin of California who restored it and put on over 100,000 miles of touring. Gene's son sold the car to Stu Laidlaw, Angels Camp, CA in Jim Adams, Brooklyn CT purchased the car in 1998 and re-restored it. Late in 2005 Howard Sharp of Fairport, NY purchased it. Dick Stearns purchased the car in
