V. res.: on lythe ecy./reas.: anell Kent Wagon aster: ill mos ditor: lenn earous D: Ken & herrie isberg arly ird Day, hursday 6 We found a warm day as we park among the trees. ountry Oaks has a number of oaks, but some may need to be trimed. he main building looks the same as the years pass. re there any fish in the lake? umiko decorates the large porch. he dog has a few squirrels to chase, but why run in the heat? hat evening we have our supper at the onny s just a few miles north on -95. o ends this day.

Day, Friday 7 fter our outside breakfast, we take a break to start the business meeting. When ames starts to he sun soon has us finding some shade. andra takes care of the dogs and takes pictures. get ready for the business meeting, he has some supervision. hat afternoon we depart to t. arys to walk about the old town. he ubmarine useum is a small building that could easily be missed when walking down the main street. ames checks out the ferry schedules to the island. he ferry is just for visitors. he freight and car ferry does not dock here. t is too late to make the trip today. embers resent: ill & nn mos, om & umiko Davis, Don & anell Kent, ee & une anchester, ames & andra Walters. uests: am ewis, aura anchester. une irthdays: on lythe 6/, lara itchell 6/6. une nniversaries: ee & une anchester 6/8, arl & arol Davis 6/. ay

t is urnt Dogs and amburgers tonight. he Florida weather travels this far north without the afternoon thunderstorm. upper time has the sun so high as to make it feel like it was just afternoon. Our appetites are ready for this meal, maybe our walking this afternoon gave us our appetites. few of us just eat the meat without the bread. here is plenty of other food items to go with the meats. few visitors would like to share with us, but they really do not get close enough for supper. hat evening we play evens in the front office building. ee has his daughter aura okietek visiting this weekend. he arrived on Friday, stayed friday night and went with us to the island on aturday. he spent aturday night with her parents as well. lenn was told that ames was the winner of the Friday night games. evens has become a popular game with this hapter. lenn notes that no table treats are on display. he supper had filled up our members? hat may be a first. t last, our Friday is completed and the office is locked up. ditor s omments he editor would inform the readers that all pictures of the camp out for ay were taken by the Walters. ome were adjusted for the proper printing of the colors and all were cropped to the size used in the newsletters.

Day, aturday 8 aturday we travel to the ferry dock and wait for the next ferry. he original ecreational Vehicle type is in view. We call our V battery a hip s attery. any of our facilities were originally designed for a marine application. ust how many feet of length would that yacht buy, in an V? hey seem to last many more years than a vehicle V. Walk and more walking in the heat of the day. he wild horses are still on the island. hey are not pets. he horses have little interest in the people walking about. few years back their numbers were so high that starvation was a problem and (with some politics) a number were sold and moved off the island. ot one horse is used to pull a wagon or work for people. ruin beckons for yet another walk. his is the remains of Dungeness, the arnagie ansion. he uropean building method for really rich families was to use stone and cement. hose buildings were hard to heat, but they sure did last. fire did what a storm had not done to this building. lenn thinks that our ncome ax system caused many old buildings to fall into disrepair and ruin. he arnagie family is not a big name in today s world. What kind of a trip it was to come to this island for a summer of fun? Where did the help live on the island? 4 ay

o ends our big side trip day. Day, unday 9 he trip back allowed us a chance to sit down and have a cooling breeze while we are on the ferry. hat evening we had our big meal at the campground. here are no pictures of that meal. y the time the supper was all cleaned up, the chance to rest in the V was a good choice. here a few strong walkers got together to play hirty One. andra was the big winner tonight. here are no pictures of the morning of our departure. ust a ote lenn and hristine were attending the ateway ams hapter camp out at.. ayport, ayport, Florida. here was a conflict on the dates of those two chapter s meeting dates. his type of conflict arises from the special definition of a weekend by ateway. une will have hristine attending the ateway camp out at tagecoach and lenn at a cabin at the KO, tarke, Florida. 5

n emory of eraldine humaker 9 eraldine humaker, 8, a long time resident of acksonville passed away on the morning of onday, ay 7,, in aptist ospital after a lengthy illness. erri was a native of West Virginia where she attended igh chool and ollege. urvivors include her husband ob, a son obby, and a granddaughter rittany. he had three great grandchildren, rendan, rayden, and ailey, and a brother, immy oble. erri was a member of ax ambling ams, and a harter ember of ateway ams. he loved to camp with her chapters. he loved good food, good friends and good conversations. erri loved everyone and everyone loved erri. he had a wonderful sense of humor and practical jokes were not beneath her. he was always up for a good camp out and a new adventure. he will be remembered fondly and she will be sorely missed around the camp fire. funeral service was held in the chapel on Friday, ay, at ardage-iddens own & ountry Funeral ome, 74 ormandy oulevard, acksonville, Florida. 6 ay

D O hank you to our hapter embers for a successful camp out at ountry Oaks in Kingsland, eorgia. he campground was very impressed with our group, and we have been invited back to their campground. enjoyed the camp out and the fellowship very much. o those who couldn t make the camp out, you really missed a fun trip. issing from our ranks were ammy & laine enson (had to work), on & Diane lythe (in Ohio), harlie & usan ardrick (usan just had surgery), ugs & ana illard (schedule conflict), ob & erri humaker (erri is ill), and lenn & hristine earous (schedule conflict). We missed you. am ewis drove up to visit with us on aturday morning. ee anchester s daughter aura joined us on Friday night, and we enjoyed her company. his was a different type camp out. For lack of a better term, it was declared a no host camp out. his just means that everyone was responsible for their own main course on aturday night s potluck as when compared to the ost method where the host provides the main course for everyone. lso, we as a group took a side trip to umberland sland, which is something we haven t done since arl Davis used to take a group out to the yard sales in the area. he boat ride over to the island took about 45 minutes. Within an hour of docking we had found a herd of wild horses. he scenery on the island is beautiful, and the mosquitoes were not bad at all. did have on insect repellent. We saw some of the ruins on the island, but had to return to the dock in order to insure that we didn t miss the boat. On the boat ride back, we ran into udy & ud Wilhour. We got to chat for half an hour. hey had been on the island also. will be aware of side trips and when there are local area attractions, and will see if any interest in a side trip can be generated. hursday nights meal of choice was onny s ar--q. he traditional hot dogs and hamburgers were served on Friday night. he bring your own meat on aturday went over so well. here were card games all three nights. reakfast were served on Friday and aturday mornings. he business meeting was held on Friday morning following breakfast. ain topics of discussion were the new O for Florida and the new O for ax ambling ams. he vote was unanimous in favor of both. here was some discussion about procedure for camp outs, and a committee was formed to make recommendations. hings are changing fast as chapter life evolves. et s all try to make it more fun this coming season of camping. ill next time appy camping... ames 7
