Join us for the Season Opener Campout in Absaraka Everything is ready for our season opener campout coming up May 5-8 at Art s place in Absaraka, North Dakota! Copious amounts of time will be spent catching up with our friends around the campfire. And should those April Showers continue into May Drenchings, Art has arranged for use of the beautiful Absaraka Community Center. As usual, dress for all seasons. At present time, the rally fee is zero. Meals will be potluck or on your own. Saturday s Luncheon will be in the private room at Pizza Ranch at noon on Saturday everyone Dutch Treat. Friday afternoon, we will have a special opportunity! We have a tour of the Dale Herman Research Facility where trials of a multitude of plants, shrubs, and trees are ongoing, to see how they produce or survive in hour climate. This facility is not normally open to the public to protect the research they conduct, so this is a real treat for us. You will also see their new High Tunnel structure which is used to extend to growing season for otherwise marginal crops in this area. It s just a few miles from Art s place, so we will be carpooling there. See the Campout details in this newsletter for directions and schedule (which is subject to change). NOTE: Should you decide to take a shortcut to get to Absaraka, expect to be on gravel roads in spring-time condition! See you there!

By Larry Ruebel The Peace Garden Airstream Club rally season is about to begin. Hopefully, there will be a little of something for everyone. To help everyone, especially those of you travelling from Canada (poor exchange rate), we are trying to keep our costs for the unit sponsored campouts and rallies to a minimum. That, along with the cheapest fuel prices in years, hopefully will make our unit activities less expensive. I hope as many of you as possible can attend the luncheon in Casselton, and if it fits in your schedule, spend time at Art s for our campout. The only requirement for the campout is bring lots of tales of your winter adventures. We are still working out the final details on the Hawk Museum Rally in Wolford. The museum leader that I was working with passed away so I am meeting with the new leader very soon to nail down the final details. Just a reminder the Region 7 Tall Ship Rally forms are due by June 1 if you plan to attend. --Larry-- May 5-8, Calendar of Events Spring Campout, Art s Place, Absaraka, ND Past President Art Idso #1397 Newsletter Editor Cathy Ruebel #10081 May 7, 2016 June 9-12, 2016 June 28 - July 4, 2016 June 29, 2016 July 18-20, 2016 July 20-25, 2016 Aug 17-22, 2016 Sept 15-18, 2016 July 22-29, 2017 Spring Luncheon & Business Meeting, Pizza Ranch, Casselton, ND Summer Buddy Rally, Wolford, ND 59th International Convention/Rally, Lewisburg, West Virginia Region 7 Luncheon, Underwood Youth Center- East Side, Lewisburg, WV Region 7 Work Rally, International Peace Gardens, Dunseith, ND Monument of Peace Dedication Rally, International Peace Gardens, Dunseith, ND Region 7 Tall Ships Rally, Duluth, MN Street Fair Installation Rally, Mandan, ND 60th International Rally, Escanaba, Michigan

3 Catching up with Friends Manitoba Luncheon in Winnipeg Nov 14, 2015 By Gail Horrower It was a cold, blustery day in Winnipeg -- this should have been the beginning of the story, however, it was actually a sunny, warm +11C or 52F and Yes, it was November 14, Twelve past, present and future Airstreamers gathered at Muddy Waters at the Forks in downtown Winnipeg for a luncheon. Page 3 May-June 2016 What a great time we had catching up with everyone's news. We also honored two of our Airstream friends who had passed on this year -- Anne Sylvestre and Fran MacEachern. A new Airstream couple were welcomed -- Roddy and Karen Batson from Brandon, Manitoba joined us, and we are hoping that they will be joining our Airstream family. Those attending were: Ron & Evelyn Skelton, Jake & Agnes Schmidt, Werner Niederdellmann, Roddy & Karen Batson, Don Rogers, (Terrol stayed home as she had the flu), Betty Stephen, Frank MacEachern and Bruce & Gail Harrower. We will continue this annual event -- all past, present and future Airstreamers are always welcome. Look who showed up for the St. Patty s Day Airstream Breakfast. Art & Kathleen (mostly Kathleen) have arranged for Airstreamers around Yuma to meet for breakfast the 3rd Thursday of the winter months. What a fun time! Kathleen says to join them next year if you re in the Yuma area. Yours truly for to wear green. Linda A. Remember that awesome soup Ron and Rose brought to the Installation Rally? Here s the recipe Roger Larson s Wild Rice Soup 1 lb. bacon, chopped 1 small onion, chopped, (can use onion powder) 3 (4 oz.) cans sliced mushrooms with juice 3 cans cream of potato soup, diluted according to directions on can 1 pint Half & Half 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese 2 cups water 2/3 cup wild rice, cooked in 3 cups water approx. 45 minutes While rice is cooking, fry bacon until crisp; drain. Saute onion in small amount of bacon grease until translucent. Combine all ingredients in large crock pot to prevent scorching, until heated through. December 3, Rose Larson: I usually make it a few hours before we eat so it simmers for a while.
