Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! Gilroy Garlic RV Park, Gilroy, Jan 28 Feb 1, 2016 REGION RALLY REPORT BY NANCY HARRINGTON Well another fabulous Region Rally is now in the books. The Sierra Nevada Unit, Bob and Cecelia S. put on a great rally. We had great weather the whole rally. GW members attending the rally were Ken &Judy B., Brian, Margaret & Ivy H., Richard & Judy K., Roger & Roberta P. and Jack & Shirley W. So GW was well represented with 6 rigs. Dale and I arrived Monday afternoon and set up and toured the area. The rally started officially the next day, Tuesday, Oct. 5th. Roger P. and Eric McH. From the Santa Clara Unit did a ham radio introduction and workshop that afternoon. Dinner was pizza, salad and dessert. Yummy. After dinner we were entertained by a Cowboy Poet and a young lady dressed up as a Pony Express rider and explained the history of the Pony Express. Very entertaining. Wednesday in the morning there was a flea market and our new Region President Tom Smithson led a workshop on paying dues online. You can now pay your International WBCCI dues through PayPal at not expense to you. At noon we carpooled over to Lake Tahoe for a delicious catered lunch at the home of Bob & Cecelia S. friends, Jack & Sherry Mc.. What a view. After lunch some of us walked over to the lake and chatted while others went into town. Happy Hour was at the home of Bob & Cecelia S. in Carson City. That evening the movie the The Shootist with John Wayne was shown. The movie was shot in Carson City. Thursday morning we carpooled to the Nevada State Museum in Carson City and toured the facility on our own. There is a great mine exhibit in the basement and if you re claustrophobic I don t recommend visiting. It had wooly mammoths, great silver collection and a wonderful history of Nevada, the silver state. After the tour we again carpooled to Carson High School for a Culinary Academy luncheon. This program in the high school has prepared many students to enter the culinary world. The students under the watchful eye of their instructor Penny, made many salads, soups and delicious desserts for us. Bob S. subs at the high school and set up the luncheon. We all left full and happy. After lunch we all met back at the visitor center to begin a one mile walking tour of the many Victorian and historic mansions in Carson City. What beautiful homes. We also viewed the home where the movie The shootist was filmed. Happy hour was at a historic mansion owned by Bob & Cecelia s friends, Jack & Sherry. We had lunch at their Lake Tahoe home and now happy hour in Carson City. There was so much food and fun to be had most did not return until after eight at night. We played Bingo in the Club House at the park that evening. Friday morning we were treated to a catered breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage and potatoes. So good. Some members carpooled to Virginia City after breakfast. Dale and I decided to visit Nevada s first settlement Genoa which was only about 10 miles away. This was a trading post established in 1850 by two members of the Mormon Battalion, Abner Blackburn and Hampton Beatie. This was the perfect spot for weary travelers on the California Trail to stop before climbing the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range in their quest for gold in California. In 1851 John Resse and his nephew Stephen Kinsey built a permanent trading post here and renamed it the Mormon Station. The name was changed again by Orson Hyde to Genoa after Genoa, Italy. The building standing at the Mormon Station is a replica of the original building built here. It contains many interesting artifacts of the era. We visited the Genoa cemetery and viewed the graves of the many pioneers and of Snowshoe Thompson, who delivered the mail from Placerville, Ca., to Carson Valley twice a month for 20 years. He had to traverse the rough terrain and hard weather to get not only mail, but also supplies and medical necessities to the Carson Valley. He was never paid for his work. At 3 PM some members went on a tour to a Historical State Prison or to Hugh Butcher s Airstream restoration. Happy Hour was at the new home of Jack & Kathy H., from the Santa Clara Unit, who just retired to Minden, NV,

Minden is just 10 miles from Carson City. It was nice to see them again and so very kind to open their home to us. Another great Happy Hour. We enjoyed a relaxing dinner that evening with Jack & Shirley W. The evening entertainment was a Bluegrass band that had your toes tapping. Very enjoyable. After the performance was door prizes. We won a beautiful picture frame with the name Airstream on it. Saturday morning we had the Region 12 business meeting led by Region President Tom Smithson. A number of motions were read by Region 12 Vice President Jim Polk and voted on by the Unit representatives. These motions were the same ones I ed to you to vote on. All motions passed. In the afternoon there were many options available to us, Nevada State Railroad Museum, Nevada Museum of Art, Capital City Shot Gun Trapshooting and a Scandinavian Festival. There were a lot of great activities set up for us by Sierra Nevada Unit and Bob and Cecelia for our entertainment. Dinner that evening was Dickey s BBQ meat, beans, and salad. Very tasty. Announcements were read by Jack H., who is a pro at being Master of Ceremonies at the Region rallies. Dennis and Lynn, friends of Cecelia and Bob s, are professional entertainers and wowed us! Her voice was beautiful. Bob got up and sang superbly with Lynn. Eventually Cecelia, who also has a beautiful voice, joined in. I tell you if Dennis and Lynn had CD s available that night I would have bought them all. They were fantastic. Door prizes and the Quilt raffle rounded out the evening. Our own Ivy H. picked out the tickets for the prizes and she read and got all the names right! She is one smart little cookie! A cute little cookie too. With that the Region Rally came to an end. Sunday and it was time to pack up and go home after a fabulous week of entertainment, activities, food and fellowship. We caravanned home with Jack & Shirley W. and stopped at a rest stop going over the pass on Hwy 80 for a great lunch. I again want to thank the Sierra Nevada Unit and Bob and Cecelia S. for putting on a great rally.

3 Slow-Cooker Cranberry-Orange Pork Roast Prep Time 15min. Total Time 4hr. 25min Servings 16 servings. You can substitute Orange Juice For the fresh squeezed. One reviewer substituted 1 tsp of orange flavoring for the zest. Other reviewers used Teriyaki sauce instead of soy. What You Need 2 Tbsp. oil 1 flat boneless pork loin roast (4 lb.) 1 can (14 oz.) whole berry cranberry sauce 1/2 cup KRAFT Classic CATALINA Dressing 1 Tbsp. lite soy sauce 1 Tbsp. cornstarch 1 tsp. zest and 1/4 cup juice from 1 orange Make It Heat oil in large skillet on medium-high heat. Add meat; cook 4 to 5 min. on each side or until browned on both sides. Transfer meat to slow cooker. Mix cranberry sauce, dressing and soy sauce; pour over meat. Cover with lid. Cook on LOW 4 to 5 hours. Remove meat from slow cooker, reserving liquid in slow cooker. Cover meat to keep warm. Whisk remaining ingredients in small bowl until blended; stir into liquid in slow cooker. Cook, covered, on HIGH 10 min. or until thickened. Slice meat; place on platter. Drizzle lightly with sauce. Serve with remaining sauce. Substitute Prepare using KRAFT Tangy Bacon CATALINA Dressing & Marinade. Food Facts When cooking a pork roast in a slow cooker, it is best to use a wide flat roast since it both fits better in most slow cookers and is less likely to overcook. Note For best results, do not cook the meat on the HIGH heat setting.

I think it s Allen? Our own Ivy H. picked the winner of the quilt and the door prizes. She did an excellent job pronouncing some very hard names.
