5 H I G H V I S T A A M E N I T Y A S S O C I A T I O N P A G E 5 We are deeply saddened to report that High Vista resident and POA member, Larry McLean, unexpectedly passed away recently. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Diane and their family. He was an extraordinary man and he will be missed by all who knew him. You can honor Larry by making a donation to the Paraguay School for Children, 703 N Main Street, New Ellenton SC With summer fully underway, I hope all of our member/owners will take advantage of the many social activities available. The pool is now open for extended hours on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights. The tennis courts and pickle ball courts are ready for use and the Pub is serving up regular specials thanks to the hard work of Dave Leard and the kitchen crew. We are in the process of hiring a new chef and expect to have that position filled very soon. In the interim, I think you will find the food and service as good as ever! Hello from F&B. I want to thank everyone for supporting the Pub and the Staff during our short gap with the Chef Position. Everyone rallied nicely! Thanks to Blue Ridge Event Planning for supplying an interim Chef while we search for a full time employee. It is nice that we have a local resource that can help us fill any position we may need in the short run. Please wish us President s Message The Board has approved several new policies that can be found on our website. I want to mention one policy that deals with member and guest behavior. While we have no desire for our staff, board, or any member to be the PC police, we do want our facilities to be a place where all of our families can enjoy their time when on Amenity property. There are several signs at the pool that remind us that This Is Our Place and it is a place to have fun. We have a rapidly growing number of younger families with children and some language and behavior is simply inappropriate. Food and Beverage luck in the search for this position. Aside from this hiccup, things are moving forward nicely. Revenue is way up from last year and expenses continue to look very good. Aly and Dave have done a great job monitoring these and our new POS System is proving to be the tool we needed. I also want to thank Jerry I think we all know it when we see and hear it. I hope all of us will be considerate of one another and help to keep our place a fun place. Finally, a belated thanks to Ron & Kathy Segall and to Claude & Jeanne Gasperge for their generous contribution to the fund that enabled us to move the dumpsters from the upper parking lot. There are still funds needed to pay for that project. If you would like to contribute any amount please let me or Ron know. and Jim for their effort to save the pig we had purchased. That was a very fun event and showed how well our community gathers when times are tight. Thanks again and keep enjoying the Pub and the POA. John Denison Michael Everhart Editor s Note: My name is Shanita (Nita) Jackson and I am working as an administrative assistant and pub server at High Vista. Several people have welcomed me with open arms, kind gestures, and beautiful smiles for which I am extremely grateful. Though the friendliness that I have received is high up on my hierarchy of things I love about High Vista, I must say that the beautiful mountain view that I am blessed to see every day takes the cake. The mountains are a daily reminder of my own personal summer goal: to thoroughly enjoy the place I call home. Fortunately, I am able to do so. I have hiked the Big Glassy Mountain Trail at Carl Sandburg. I have dipped into the cool waters of the Green River. I have done and plan to do so many things right in my own backyard, and I encourage everyone to do the same! When the summer ends and the leaves begin to change, I will be in Kentucky attending Berea College, fervently fighting off homesickness and surviving on Ramen Noodles. I say all of this to emphasize one thing: appreciate where you are. Take it from an 18 year old who s finally learned to love where she comes from, just as she s about to leave. Breathe in the mountain air and enjoy the remainder of your summer! Carpe diem! Nita Jackson
6 We are from out of town and wanted a no hassle rehearsal dinner where we could just show up and let everyone unwind, enjoy each other's company, and celebrate the wedding. High Vista was the perfect venue. Our guests were greatly impressed with everything and the event could not have gone smoother.. The food was very good and the staff were particularly helpful, professional and accommodating! If you are looking for someplace to hold your function that everyone will enjoy and remember, look no further! I highly recommend High Vista CC! ~ Jeff Fairfield, Ohio Jeff, the father of the groom of a recent wedding, wrote an amazing review about High Vista! He was very pleased with the services provided by our Amenity Association and gave plenty of high praises for our venue. High Vista has also been chosen as the venue of two additional weddings taking place at the end of July. A big thank you to Aly and Dave Leard, Jessie Sims, and everyone at High Vista who work hard to make these beautiful events happen! The phrase a magician never reveals his secrets does not apply to this scenario! Ron Zeltner, a magician and entertainer, goes above and beyond for his audience. Zeltner performs magic tricks for children and follows each display with step by step explanations! His dedication to quench the curiosity of his audience has earned Zeltner a featured spot onto High Vista s Winning Shots. Bravo Ron!
