Studebaker Corral Events 6. September Meeting Details 7. Studebaker Calendar President s Message Those who could not attend the annual picnic at Ft.Yargo, missed a lot of good food and Studebakers. We even had some drop-in visitors who got the meeting information off the internet, but thought the start time was 3:00 and were late. They are hopefully going to be new members. I don t have any Studebaker skinned knuckles repair stories for you this month because we went on a road trip starting the day after the picnic. We went to our daughter s house north of Denver to visit Eli and Hannah, our 9 year old twin grandchildren, Cheri and Adam their parents, and Odett, their very large, full-size poodle. They need a big dog because one time we saw a bobcat under one of their bushes. They also have a lot of other predators, including eagles, which love to dine on small dogs and cats. We played Racko with the kids, and Eli and I played Chess to two stalemates. We also visited a butterfly exhibit and a huge Lego show that the kids really enjoyed, and so did we. Adam is a car guy who collects Mopars (no Studebakers yet). We diagnosed a steering problem with his 69 Super Bee 440 Six Pack. Cheri raises chickens, ducks, turkeys, bees, and horses. The kids started school on the 15 th, and we left to go north to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. Then we headed east through the Big Horn National Forest, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument, and Badlands National Park. -Loren Nelson- Just for Laughs The following material, contributed by SDC Publications Director Larry Swanson, is taken from a column called Odds N Ends written especially for SDC Editors by Pete Yuen, retired newsletter editor: A couple was planning to host a cocktail party, and the hostess thought that the invitations should read, From 6:00 to 8:00. But her husband objected because he thought that this was telling the guests when to go home. So, the invitations were sent out, reading, Cocktails at 6:00. This resulted in the party still going strong well past midnight. After a police officer arrived at the door, he told the hostess that someone in the neighborhood had complained and that the racket would have to stop. The hostess was outraged and said that she could not imagine that one of their neighbors would have made a complaint. The police insisted that a complaint had been received and recorded so the party has to break up. After the last guest had left, the hostess inquisitively turned to her husband, I wonder who called the police? Her weary husband replied.... I did. Quotes from Charles Dickens: Our lives would run a lot more smoothly if our second thoughts came first. All people smile in the same language
