1 Short Wing Piper Club Buckeye Chapter July 31, 2018 The next fly-in is Saturday August 11, 2018, at Troy Skypark (OH71). Details on pages 2 & 3. On July 14 th, Dean and Amy Dayton hosted a wonderful fly-in at Union Co. Airport (KMRT) in Marysville. I was unable to make it there myself and did not receive any pictures from the gang this year, so I will include a few pictures from previous gatherings at KMRT. Tom and Denise Anderson (N3335B - Mason) reported the air was smooth going up from KMWO, but was just a little bumpy on the return. Jan & Ralph Widman (N4828Z) flew in from Highland County. An SWPC member from near Grand Rapids, MI flew his Tri-Pacer down. He has it for sale and flew it to the meeting so Bill Colgan (Columbus), who is actively looking for a Short Wing Piper, could look it over and take a ride in it. The owner left early to avoid adverse weather forecast for Michigan that afternoon. No word if they struck a deal or not. As usual, the food and fellowship at Benny s Pizza Pub and Patio met all expectations. Absent from this year s gathering at Marysville were local long-time SWPC members, Jerry and Kay Isbell. Jerry had reported on June 17 th that he and Kay were about to go grocery shopping until she fainted in the bathroom. She could not talk nor move any muscles. She was not breathing. I got the squad moving to our house then I opened the front door. I managed to get Kay on the floor in the smallest room of the house. At that time the guys were rushing into our house. They took over CPR and moved her to the front room. She was not breathing. The crew did bring her back to life and she remains in comatose in the hospital. Update: Kay is making a recovery and is reportedly much improved, and as of the fly-in, she was recuperating in a nearby nursing home. 2 NEXT MEETING Saturday, August 11, 2018 Troy Skypark (OH71 formerly 37I), 4 miles SW of Troy, OH Troy Skypark is located 6 miles NW of KDAY under the Class C outer band of KDAY, so remain below 2,400 msl to stay clear of the Class C airspace. 37I is 3450 x 100 turf in good condition that is oriented 05-23, with a line of ft high trees 100 feet to the east of the runway centerline. Runway 05 is RIGHT hand pattern; Runway 23 is LEFT hand pattern REMAIN CLEAR OF DAYTON S INNER CLASS C CYLINDER. Arrive by NOON. Kennet and April DeJesus are hosting and will have a grill fired up. PLEASE RSVP with a text or phone call to ( ) or to kjesus1@hotmail.com so they have some idea of how many to expect. Please bring a carry-in dish to share, i.e., a salad, side or desert to go with a cook-out. See the accompanying pictures for where to park and tie down. Jan Widman reports that we have two new members in our Chapter: Dean Chamberlain from Lisbon OH, hdchambe@aol.com Nick Notestine from Columbus, OH, nicknotestine@yahoo.com Jan did not mention which models of SWP aircraft Dean or Nick own and fly. It doesn t matter - welcome fellas and we hope to see you and your families at a fly-in/drive-in soon! Jan did go on to say: I counted through the (membership) pages this AM and discovered we have 17 paid members of whom we have seen perhaps 6 or 7 this year. Not such a good showing. Even the Widmans have missed a crowd of meetings (for shame!) and we DO hold our heads down! However - the lack of turn-out is of concern. Were people afraid we would conscript them to work at Grayling? OR Are they not wanting to be seen with us? OR Are we no longer a priority? OR Just what?????
