Thank you for your continued support, work, and sweat! We, VAMNJ, are Stronger because of the Storm! We are just one of so many establishments what was affected by Super-storm Sandy. Now, in just under a year, VAMNJ is back and the rest is, shall we say water under the bridge! What s on top of that bridge? A renovated museum and guests pouring in the door! The first display was of the 1920 s and 30 s. Our current, second display features vehicles from the 30 s, 40 s and 50 s, plus even a pair of rare early motorcycles; not to be a spoiler but the motorcycles are from 1913 and (I will leave it up to you to see which model they are.) As for the vehicles, there is a 1915 Model T, 1941 Cadillac, 1957 Thunderbird; just to list a few. Thank you to the owners who have graciously loaned us their vehicles. If you haven t had a chance to come by come on out, what are you waiting for?! SAVE THE DATE SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 29TH FOR THE GRAND RE-OPENING THAT WILL TAKE PLACE AT 12 P.M. This will be a great day for the family because not only is there, well us, but we are also located right next to the Johnson Brothers Boat Works. Cars, Boats, Family, and Friends...what more can you ask for on a beautiful Sunday? Looking forward to seeing you and hopefully one or two of you will send us a blurp about your experience at the museum! Beep Beep! Hp D n!

Grand Re-Opening Sunday September 29 at 12:00 From Dave, Executive Dir. Thank you to all of our members and friends for your encouragement and support during our formative years. We opened the only public antique automobile museum in the State of New Jersey. It took 12 years of planning and hard work but we realized our dream on September 15, 2012 with our Grand Opening. We had an estimated 3,000 visitors that day to see our first Museum display, Early Fords. Little did we know that Sandy was lurking near by. At the end of October Sandy delivered flood waters to 51 inches inside our new Museum. Most of the display cars were removed before the storm but some were lost as well as our auto memorabilia. Many said it was impossible to recover. Without hesitation we began to pick up the pieces and work to reopen. It took 10 months and we are open for business. Our current display is cars of the 30 s, 40 s, & 50 s. You are invited to our Grand Re-Opening on September 29 at 12:00 noon. Please come and enjoy the Museum with us. Ralph Voorhees, Jr. President John Mahoney Vice President David DiEugenio VP Treasurer Ann Stabile Secretary Be Informed Be Active Be a Volunteer!! Open Membership Meeting John Mahoney, Hello Members! In 1942, General Douglas MacArthur was stationed in the Philippines as Commander of the Allied Forces in the Pacific. As the Japanese Army was closing in on the Island Nation, MacArthur was ordered off the islands and sent to Australia. As the storm of war entered the Philippines, MacArthur said, I have come through, and I shall return. And return to the Philippines he did. Through several campaigns he was able to defeat the Japanese and chase them from the islands. The effects of a hurricane are much like the effects of war in that both cause widespread death and destruction. On October 29, 2012, Hurricane Sandy came ashore in New Jersey, ripping apart houses, boardwalks, roads, and destroying boats, cars, and lives. In the United States alone, Sandy killed 125 people. Those who still had a house to live in spent days and even weeks without electricity or heat. But the one resolve heard over and over was, I shall return. Stronger than the Storm became the rallying cry as New Jerseyans began rebuilding their homes and lives. Many businesses along the coast were destroyed or damaged to the point where ceasing trade was necessary, and some of those businesses are still unopened, even after nine months. The Vintage Automobile Museum of N.J. was one of those unfortunate establishments that Sandy attempted to destroy. There were seven cars in the museum when 52 of water entered the building. Anything in the museum lower than the water s crest was ruined--rugs, Continue on Page 5...

The Mustang spent over a week at the New York Auto Show in March, expanding the reach of the museum into Northern New Jersey and New York. Thank to you to those who made the trip up into New York to volunteer at the table. Since March, the Mustang as continued a trip throughout the state attending local car shows, cruises and even went to Carlisle, PA for their big show. All in all, this has been the best raffle season yet with the best raffle car choice too. If you haven t had a chance to get your tickets yet, there is plenty of time as the drawing is set to take place December 8th at the Vintage Automobile Club Christmas Party. The car show season isn t over yet and the Mustang is scheduled to make several appearances. We have drivers but we are little short on helpers; we like to have at least two people at each event. All of the aforementioned were either donated or on loan. Repairs to the building began immediately, thanks to our landlord who had our resident carpenter, Jim Brenna, tear down the damaged sheet rock. Ceiling tiles were replaced as needed. The roof was fixed. Like many of our museum members, our own General, and Curator, Steve Zboyan, suffered personal loss at his home. Steve s house, one that he had lived in for 60 years, was left standing, but without the furniture, many years worth of antiques and collectibles, irreplaceable tools, and several cars. Yet, Steve still had the resolve to make his home and the home of the Vintage Auto Museum, whole again. As you read this, the Vintage Auto Museum of N.J. is open once again. Steve and his cadre scrubbed everything clean. The walls and floor were repainted. Many of the items that were on the wall or on shelves are back in place, along with several new additions. Of all the cars that were in the museum during the flood, only one is no longer with us. The 1927 Model T that belonged to the museum is gone. One of our Founding Members, Walter Piatkowski, had lent his 1931 Model A to the museum for its inaugural display of Model T s and Model A s. Unfortunately, Walter passed away shortly before the Museum s Grand Opening. The museum s success is due, in part, to Walter s comradeship, enthusiasm, and devotion to building New Jersey s first antique car museum. I am happy to report that Walter s Model A, known from now on as The Walter, is back on display in the museum; a true testament to his sprit de corps, and to the abilities of the members of the Vintage Auto Museum to rise above adversity. Other vehicles on display now are a mixture of years and marques. Come visit. It s your museum. Soldier on, Museum Members, soldier on.
