BOX 3793 Torrance, CA Our December 20, 2013 Meeting will be a Holiday Potluck Feast Holiday Party Our annual Holiday Party Potluck Dinner will be December 20 th beginning at 7:00. Since orchid lovers come from all over the world, which is reflected in our membership, we have decided to ask everyone to bring a dish from their ethnic background. This should be a lot of fun, as we will have a chance to sample food from many cultures. Non-alcoholic beverages will be provided, but you may bring wine if you choose. Guests are welcome, but we need to know how many people are in your party so we will set up enough tables and chairs. We will also be ordering orchid plants from Kawamoto Orchids again this year, which will be passed out at the party. We need to know how many plants to order (one plant per membership), so please RSVP to Charlotte Morrison at or clazarmorrison at yahoo.com by December 13 and let her know how many are in your party and if you will be bringing an appetizer, salad/vegetable, main dish, or dessert. 2 ORCHIDWIZ EXPRESS AUCTION OrchidWiz Express is an easy-to-use application that allows orchid growers to get cultivation and genealogy information for thousands of species and more than 145,000 hybrids. Growers can keep track of their orchids by using the Orchid Journal that is included with the software, as well as print labels for their tags. This version of OrchidWiz comes with more than 4,000 photographs of the most common species and hybrids and is aimed at the beginner to intermediate hobby grower. For installation on one computer only, activation required either online, via , or telephone. Mac users need Parallels Desktop or VMware Fusion. Utilizes 350 MB of hard drive disk space. Software includes two months of technical support. New releases planned for once a year with option to upgrade for an extra fee. Users of OrchidWiz Express can upgrade to OrchidWiz Encyclopedia at a discounted price December President s Message I would like to encourage all our members to join us on December 20, 2013 at our Holiday Potluck Feast. We will be celebrating and enjoying each other s company as we feast on the wonderful dinner. SBOS will also follow the tradition of a providing one orchid plant per membership for those who attend and make reservations. In addition to the dinner, we will be holding an auction for the Orchidwiz Express. I would like to encourage everyone, who is interested in orchids, to consider bidding on this program. It contains valuable information and software that you can use to keep track of your plants. Drop by and see the beautiful blooming cymbidiums from Hatfield Orchids. Come early to get the best. If you are having cultural problems with your cymbidiums, bring them to the sale. We will evaluate them and give you advice. Suspect a virus? Bring a cutting of a leaf and we will test for virus. ($5.00 per test) George Hatfield owner of Hatfield Orchids will be selling blooming cymbidiums once a month from October to June at Yamada Company.
