Royal Shows Maine Anjou society ltd JANUARY 2016 Secretary s Desk Inside this issue: Secreta ry s Desk Upcom ing Events CGU Advert Sydney Royal Melbou rne Royal Adverti sement s Welcome to the first newsletter for I really don t know where 2015 went and hopefully 2016 will pass a little slower and with great things happening for the Maine breed. Inquiries for cattle have been steady and I have passed these onto members in the relevant areas. It is great to see cattle selling well with the Severin family selling 2 Maines at Wodonga that weighed 722kg and returned $ per head. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome new breeder, Terry Ryan, from Strath Creek in Victoria to the Society and it was lovely to catch up with Terry at Melbourne Royal. Melbourne Royal was a great success and the breed had the heaviest bull on the ground, but there are no awards for this, just a few bragging rights and a lot of interest from exhibitors generally and the public. Read more about Melbourne Royal further in, in this newsletter. Two of our young members have been overseas. Emily Hurst has been to America and Canada, where she worked within the stud beef industry, doing photography, and met with Maine breeders. Scott Costello has been in Europe and spent a day with French Maine Anjou breeders. Both have some wonderful photos of their trips. Emily is back in America at the moment. The Board will be meeting at 22 Nicholls Lane Huntley NSW on Saturday 30th January starting at 12 noon for lunch. Everyone is welcome to attend. For catering purposes can you let me know approximate numbers attending the meeting.. Please note that membership fees are due by 28th February and I have enclosed a renewal application with this newsletter. Please check the details the Society has on it s records for you, make any corrections where necessary and return the bottom section of the form, along with payment, to the Society s Office. 2 Page 2 I would also like to remind breeders that Semex have the AI sire, Manitou Polled Patriot available and if you require further details please don t hesitate to contact either myself or Semex direct. Also if anyone is interested in using the French sires please contact me and I can get details to you as to what is available in Australia at present. Remember all these French sires come with performance figures and I am more than happy to help you understand them. 4 Page 4 MELBOURNE ROYAL RESULTS 2016 Once again Melbourne Royal had a terrific line up of Maine Anjou cattle and all exhibitors must be congratulated on the presentation of the cattle. Congratulations to Uandi for taking out the Junior, Senior & Grand Champion female, Senior & Grand Champion bull. The Grand Champion bull was the heaviest bull on the ground and could not fit in the crush so was given an approximate weight of 1400kg.Supreme also had the largest EMA on the ground at 155. The judge was impressed with his mobility and structural correctness for such a heavy animal. The Board also has a perpetual trophy in Melbournefor the Most Successful Exhibitor, which this year was won by Uandi Maines. Judging saw a great crowd around the ring and this was followed by a breed get together in the shed and a dinner that night.
