Contents What factors have affected the results of the season, especially with regard to Finland? What are the prospects for the coming winter and summer seasons (next two seasons)? Recent or anticipated changes in the operating environment and suggested reactions to them (distribution, accessibility, consumers trends, competition, etc.)? Are there any specific messages for the Finnish travel trade (regarding e.g. product development)? 2
What factors have affected the results of the season, especially with regard to Finland? The Hong Kong economy expanded robustly by 3 % year-on-year in real terms in the first three quarters of 2013, after growing by 1.5 % in For 2013 as a whole, the economy is forecast to grow by 3 %. Local consumption demand and tourist spending remain fairly resilient. The value of retail sales, in nominal terms, increased 12.5 % year-on-year in the first nine months of As Euromonitor International reports, Hong Kong consumers will maintain their general interest in taking leisure holidays outside of Hong Kong, which is likely to have a positive impact on outbound tourism flows throughout the forecast period.
Hong Kongers care more about the safety in traveling after many travel tragedies happened in these years. When they think about safe travel destination, Finland and Scandinavia are often considered. As Consulate General of Switzerland reflects in its 2013 report, the GDP of Guangzhou ranked the 3 rd in China, and Shenzhen city has the largest export volume among all cities in Mainland China for 20 years. The city s total exports were billion dollars in 2012, accounting for 13.2 % of the national total. The prosperity of these two main cities keeps the outbound tourism of South China moving up in this summer. Many travel operators reflect Finland and Scandinavia are one of the main travel destination in this summer. China applied a new tourism law this year, though it carried out from last October, it still implanted negative effect in summer and slow down a bit the long haul traveling, in South China. On the other hand, Finland summer is still weak in its image compared with its strong winter image, the increase in Hong Kong and South China in terms of tour number is only around 3-5 %.
What are the prospects for the coming winter and summer seasons (next two seasons)? For the winter products, Santa/Ice breaker/glass Igloo and Northern light activity will be the core still. As the business of group traveling and FIT package was so good last winter, all the way from Christmas to Easter, many tour operators predict the strong trend will go on this winter. In the coming summer, we will carry on the promotion of three Finnish icons and cottage stay, I predict this idea will boost up the incentive of people to go to Finland. Tove 100 Anniversary will attract Hong Kong people pay more attention to Finland. It will help the tourism.
Recent or anticipated changes in the operating environment and suggested reactions to them? To the China new tourism law, many tour operators still have no fixed idea how to face it. Basically, many of them try to control the price of tour program, and don t make it too luxurious and too sensitive. Anyway, we need to discuss this issue more with the tour operators and investigate how to cope with this law. Next year is the Tove 100 anniversary, Hong Kong people grow up with this cartoon and they love it, we should promote more Moomin in Hong Kong in 2014.
Specific messages for the Finnish travel trade 2014 we will carry on the promotion of three Finnish icons in summer : Helsinki and Espoo (Santa summer cottage), Turku and Naantali (Moomin world), Tampere (Angry Birds Land), if our Finnish travel trade has idea related with this theme, pls connect me. Related with the above theme, I will promote also strawberry farm fruit picking and also berry picking on South Finland, any good suggestion? Hotel style cottage for tour group is a key tropic we want to put in the tour group, any suggestion of cottage with toilet and shower in each room is good for us. Lapland summer is another topic we are going to do more, especially program with easy hiking to good viewing point for the Lapland fell is good, any suggestion?
