5 Editorial Focused On Increasing Production As the state-owned oil company Petrotrin contributed approximately 53% of Trinidad and Tobago s overall crude production in Petrotrin s extensive land acreage combined with its marine acreage puts the Company at a distinct advantage with respect to its present and potential production capacity. Boosting crude oil production therefore is a major deliverable for Petrotrin in The revival of crude output is of paramount importance as the Company navigates its way through the current environment of falling oil prices and depressed refinery margins. The Company has joined local and international energy companies in reviewing planned activities in our upstream and downstream operations, and is focused on implementing strategies to facilitate production improvement and monetization of our oil and gas reserves and resources. Petrotrin s technical, operations and commercial staff have planned a robust portfolio of drilling and exploitation opportunities for both onshore and offshore operations. In this issue of the PetroConnect we take a closer look at Petrotrin s increase in drilling activity in our licensed land acreage. For the first time since 2007, the Company now has in active operation two (2) Land Drilling Rigs conducting drilling operations. Petrotrin Rig 1 is currently drilling in the Forest Reserve Field, and Petrotrin s Contract Rig, Well Services Petroleum Company Limited s (WSPCL s) Rig 4 commenced drilling in the company s Barrackpore field at the beginning of 2015 February and is currently drilling its second Barrackpore Field development well, BP 605 since commencement of this new campaign. As Petrotrin continues to explore different avenues to increase its asset reliability the Company has undertaken an exercise to upgrade approximately 2,800 ft. of 2 ⅞ -inch pipeline from the Goudron Field in Guayaguayare with a new 4 inch pipeline which is also featured in this issue along with the recent upgrades of Berth Three and the Moonfish Launch in our Port and Marine Operations. It is no secret that healthy employees lead to healthy businesses. The health and well-being of employees has long been known as the key to a healthy workforce working at top notch efficiency. In the month of February Petrotrin s Trinmar Operations focused on heart health in keeping with Valentine s Day celebrations and observances. Various activities including a lecture and a quiz were held to provide employees with valuable information on heart health. February was also the month of Carnival and Petrotrin once again continued its widespread support for the national instrument, the steelpan. The Company maintained its sponsorship of Petrotrin Phase II Pan Groove, Petrotrin Katzenjammers, Petrotrin Siparia Deltones and Petrotrin Hatters and also provided assistance to 14 other orchestras. In addition to this the Company also hosted the 2015 Zumba Fitness Challenge which attracted 100 participants and scores of spectators and supporters. These are all featured in this issue of the PetroConnect. The key thread woven throughout the main articles remains our focus on increasing our indigenous crude production and on improving our asset reliability and integrity. This requires that we are all in sync understanding the importance of working together to achieve these and the other goals outlined in Company s five year strategic plan for the benefit of not only ourselves but our colleagues, our families and the nation as a whole. 6 Petrotrin Land 6 PetroConnect No. 151, 3 of 2015 In January 2015 Petrotrin s Exploration and Production Division commenced drilling with a second rig in its land operations. This increase in drilling activity is in support of Petrotrin s Strategic Imperative to Increase Production and Reserves by exploiting opportunities identified from the 3D land seismic program and accelerating ongoing drilling activity in our licensed land acreage. This bold move by the E&P Division has come at a time when other land operators, locally owned and international, have been scaling back planned activity, pending improvement in realized crude oil prices. Petrotrin, as an integrated National Oil Company (NOC), and in recognition of the need to generate increased equity/ indigenous oil production as feedstock for the upgraded Pointe-a-Pierre refinery, took the decision to continue its commercial plan for accelerating drilling for new discoveries and to generate the resources and uphole prospects that would be exploited for years to come. For the previous eight years, Petrotrin Rig 1 was the sole active rig

7 Accelerates Drilling Activities drilling in our licensed land acreage, and was used for drilling all of Petrotrin s development, replacement, side-track and Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) opportunities. This resulted in several exploration and development drilling opportunities, along with wells needed for EOR being deferred for considerable lengths of time. This situation has now changed with the introduction of WSPCL Rig - 4. The newly contracted rig was mobilized in Barrackpore in 2015 beginning February, and was used to drill BP-604, a 4002 foot deep follow up well to BP 492, to exploit oil accumulations in the Herrera Sands. This is the first well of a three year drilling program with this rig. The additional Land rig, WSPCL s Rig 4, is able to drill prospects that are up to 8500 deep, and can also be used to reach shallower prospects that have more stringent technical requirements, such as horizontal wells. In addition to Barrackpore, the planned activity includes new exploration and development wells in several areas where oil accumulations are too deep to be reached by Petrotrin Rig 1, including Palo Seco, Grand Ravine, Forest Reserve, Fyzabad and Woodland. Many of these prospective locations have been proposed out of recent geological studies and geophysical interpretations of the NW District 3D Seismic project, which was conducted over a 320 sq km area in south Trinidad in The second well for Rig - 4 is also in Barrackpore (BP 605), after which the rig will move to Palo Seco for a three well program. On 2015 February 23, Petrotrin President Khalid Hassanali along with a team comprised of Vice President Exploration and Production, Jamaludin Khan, Vice President Human Resources and Corporate Services, Keith Ramnath, Senior Manager Exploration and Development, Carol Telemaque, Senior Manager Production Operations, Stephen Awah, Manager Drilling and Workovers, Krishna Lutchman, Manager Prospect Generation Land, Kim Gillezeau, Manager Business Support, Ramish Boodoo, and Manager HSE, Shyam Dyal, visited the second land drilling rig, while it was drilling Barrackpore 605. Also on that visit were Geologist Soriyya Hosein and Petroleum Engineer Kamlesh Ramcharitar. Ms. Hosein had this to say As young professionals working with Petrotrin, it has been an exciting and rewarding experience thus far especially being able to work on high profile projects such as in the Barrackpore Field from the initial prospect generation phase to the final drilling and workover phase. Wells proposed in Barrackpore are especially challenging due to the complex geology of the area and it is therefore extremely gratifying that the Company has put such trust in our abilities as Geologists and Reservoir Engineers to deliver wells on target. This Barrackpore project has been very important to our Company as it facilitated this newly acquired second land drilling rig being brought in to help increase drilling activity and production. Also, this experience has definitely added value to our career development in the oil industry. As young professionals, we look forward to more challenges in the future as we continue to aspire for excellence with the Company s support in all of our job functions. PetroConnect No. 151, 3 of

8 Petrotrin Implements Drilling and Production Initiatives Petroleum Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (Petrotrin) has joined local and international energy companies in reviewing planned activities in its upstream and downstream operations, and is implementing strategies to treat with the recent slippages in both crude oil prices and refinery margins. Energy companies, operating both locally and internationally, have undertaken several or all of the following initiatives in both the upstream and refining sectors: Consolidation of operations Curtailment of activities, most notably drilling and workover activity Realignment and optimization of human capital deployment Reductions in capital and operating expenditure allocations Petrotrin has undertaken similar equivalent capital and operating portfolio adjustments, however the Company has also judiciously maintained its commercial growth initiatives, recognizing that, to facilitate production improvement and monetization of the oil and gas reserves and resources placed under its jurisdiction by the state, its growth portfolio must be both maintained and balanced. In this regard, having recently acquired the most extensive 3D seismic coverage in both its Land North West District and Trinmar/North Marine own operations in the history of its and its predecessor companies operations; Petrotrin s technical, operations and commercial staff have planned a robust portfolio of drilling and exploitation opportunities for both onshore and offshore operations. To this end, Petrotrin has retained the services of a second land drilling rig to supplement the output of its own Petrotrin Rig 1. This drilling rig was contracted from local service provider, Well Services Petroleum Company Limited (WSPCL). As such, Petrotrin is pleased to advise that, for the first time since 2007, the Company now has in active operation two (2) Land Drilling Rigs conducting drilling operations as follows: Petrotrin Rig 1 is currently drilling in the Forest Reserve Field, and Petrotrin s Contract Rig, Well Services Petroleum Company Limited s (WSPCL s) Rig 4 commenced drilling in the company s Barrackpore field at the beginning of 2015 February. Petrotrin is pleased to advise that WSPCL Rig 4 is currently drilling its second Barrackpore Field development well, BP 605 since commencement of this new campaign Once the current Barrackpore well programme is completed by 2015 March, the WSPCL 4 Drilling Rig will be proceeding to Petrotrin s Palo Seco Grande Ravine Field to undertake development drilling candidates identified from the Land 3D Seismic programme We expect that this combination of effort using the two drilling rigs in our Land operations will not only offset the 8 PetroConnect No. 151, 3 of 2015 File Photo: VPEP Jamaludin Khan at left explains the mechanics of an oilwell during the 2012 visit by the Minister of Energy and Energy Affairs Kevin Ramnarine to Petrotrin Rig 1. Mr. Khan also provided an overview on Petrotrin s Trinmar Operations drilling programme, which was paused in May 2014 when the Company s contract rig was taken out of service for mandatory inspection, service and recertification. We are pleased to advise that, as at 2015 February 23, Monday, WSPCL s Rig 110 has been towed to location in our Trinmar Operations Southwest Soldado Field, he stated. Drilling started on 2015 February 26 on well S923, estimated to be completed in first week of April This is the first four (4) new wells in Southwest Soldado on February 26 as part of the Forward Drilling Programme (FDP). This drilling is expected to supplement and augment the production levels to be derived from Petrotrin s Southwest Soldado development project. Mr. Khan also indicated that in addition to the drilling activities in the company s Trinmar Operations, production improvement and optimization efforts in Trinmar Operations are also being supported through the use of two (2) contract workover rigs. We are constantly evaluating our production improvement portfolio and will undertake activities related thereto with strict adherence to commercial feasibility, he stated.

12 Petrotrin upgrades pipeline in Goudron Field As Petrotrin continues to explore different avenues to increase indigenous production and asset reliability, the Company has undertaken an exercise to upgrade approximately 2,800 ft of 2 7/8- inch pipeline from the Goudron Field in Guayaguayare with a new 4 inch pipeline. The Goudron Field is operated by Petrotrin s Incremental Production Services Contractor (IPSC) Leni Gas and Oil (LGO). The upgrade project, which is being conducted by Trunk Pipelines and Projects personnel, started on 2015 February 19 and is scheduled for completion at the end of March The pipeline runs from the Goudron Gathering Station to connect to Petrotrin s main pipeline to the Barrackpore Tank Farm. It is expected that the larger size line will facilitate increasing production volumes available for fiscalization from the Goudron Field. Management of our water resources plays a critical role in the reliability of Refinery Operations. As we proceed through the 2015 dry season it is imperative that we conserve our reservoir stocks to guard against disruptions to our business operations. At the start of 2015 all reservoirs were at maximum operating capacities however, there has been a 14% decline in our reservoir volumes to date. The current reservoir stock as at 2015 March 04 is 767 Million Imperial Gallons which is equivalent to 85.8% capacity. The current average daily water consumption is estimated at 7.7 Million Imperial Gallons inclusive of evaporative losses and will increase as refinery utilization increases. There has been a total rainfall of 89 mm to date for 2015 and approximately 313 Million Imperial Gallons have been recovered from the Guaracara River. Focused efforts continue on maximizing abstraction from the river and water well; optimizing purchases from the Water and Sewage Authority (WASA) 12 PetroConnect No. 151, 3 of 2015 File Photo: 2013 visit to the Goudron Field by Minister of Energy and Energy Affairs Kevin Ramnarine, President Khalid Hassanali, VPEP Jamaludin Khan, Manager HSE Shyam Dyal and representatives of Leni Gas Oil. 18 Spotlight on Wellness Against all He is 51 years old. He has had two serious knee surgeries. He was told that his sporting days were behind him. He is today, recognized as the Trinidad and Tobago Masters Association Senior Sportsman of the year (50-54) He received the award at the association s last Awards Ceremony. Lester Herbert is an Estate Constable assigned to Petrotrin s Port Facilities Security Unit at Pointe-a-Pierre and has been employed with the company for the past 27 years. Last year, Herbert competed intensely both at home and abroad. In April he competed at The Southern Games and won the 200m and was 2nd in the 100m. Three months later, he was back in competition mode and standing tall on the prize rostrum accepting gold medals for the long jump and the 4x100m relay and silver in the 100m and 200m at the North American Central Caribbean World Masters Association (NCCWMA) championship games in Costa Rica. The climax of his season was in October 2014 at the Huntsman Senior World Games in Utah, USA where he set a games record in the long jump, silver in the 100m and bronze medal in the 200m. A member of the Trinidad and Tobago Association of Master Athletes and the Trinidad and Tobago Senior Athletic Association since 2012, his interest and training in athletics began in the 1970 s long before he joined these clubs. During the interview, he smiled wittingly as he recalled representing his schools at both the primary and secondary levels at territorial sporting events. In 1986, he became a member of the Trintoc Athletic Club at Pointe-a-Pierre and trained under the expertise of Messrs. Rawle Francis and Wilton Jackson. This era in his sporting career was however interrupted two years later when he became permanently employed in 1988 at predecessor company Trintoc. He stopped training instead, to familiarize himself with and adjust to his new working commitments. With his natural love for sports, Herbert remained active by participating in various sporting activities within the Company. It was while competing at an inter-departmental football game that tragedy struck, leaving him with injuries to both his knees. The severity of the injuries requires two 18 PetroConnect No. 151, 3 of 2015 surgeries to be medically corrected and left him with the daunting news, that competing in sports would be a thing of the past. His unwavering love for sports, combined with his faith, determination to recover and the expertise and guidance of Petrotrin s Physiotherapy Department, proved to be a winning remedy for Herbert. As the physical injury healed, there became the need for the strengthening of the muscles around the knees. Herbert was encouraged by one of his colleagues, ex-trintoc employee and Master Athlete and Coach, Martin Prime, to return to the tracks. He did, and has never looked back.

19 Spotlight on Wellness odds Under the meticulous coaching of Prime, who is also the head coach of ZC Athletics Club, Herbert began a daily training routine at Guaracara Park, taking only his family life and working roster into consideration. Before long, he not only regained full functionality of both knees, but also found himself to be fitter and faster than he had ever been. This accomplishment and the persistent urging of coach Prime, who recognized Herbert s potential, encouraged him to continue training, but with a different focus in mind; Competition. This ushered his membership into both the Masters and Seniors Athletic Association in Additionally, he joined the Z C Athletics Club, where he also trains under Prime. At present, Herbert is an Assistant coach at ZC, with 20 athletes under his direct charge. Representing both ZC on the local level and the Masters and Seniors Association on an international level, the sporting archives of the past couple years show Herbert s name being recorded several times. Among his various accomplishments is being selected to represent Trinidad and Tobago at the Senior Barbados Invitation Games where he earned gold and games record in the 400m, and silver in the 100m and 200m. He was also selected to represent at the 2015 Edition of the Senior World Olympics Games in Minnesota USA and the USA World Indoor Championships in North Carolina, USA in March At age 51, married and the father of four adult children, Herbert considers himself to be in the best physical and psychological shape today, than he has ever been. He credits this to not only his sporting achievement, but also God s grace in his life and the unwavering support he receives from both of his families; the Herbert s and Petrotrin. At Petrotrin, he is particularly thankful to the Chief Security Officer, his superiors and colleagues in the security department. Optimistic about the future Herbert looks forward to competing in 2015, both at the local and international levels, and has set a personal challenge for himself. While winning and maintaining the top spot would be nice, it s more important to me to improve on my personal best in every category, he said in modesty, if that enables me to retain the title, great! a broad smile emerged, but if not, at least I would have achieved my objective of representing and being an advocate for senior athletes and healthy living and that would be good enough for me, he concluded in an aura of serenity. Herbert s times to beat are 11.96secs and 23.97secs in the 100m and 200m respectively and 6.03metres in the long jump category. PetroConnect extends best wishes to him for a successful season, FEBRUARY IS HEART HEALTH MONTH Keep Your Heart Healthy Petrotrin Trinmar Operations Wellness, focused on Heart Health for the month of February coinciding with Valentines observances. A series of educational sessions were conducted to enlighten employees on Heart Diseases.
