1 The Vista Hi All, Club President 2014/15 Kevin Delaney Well Tuesday s meeting was a short one but we accomplished a lot with finalizing all the details for our Book Sale this weekend. Thanks to all who are putting in such an effort to help out with our major fund raiser for the year. We deserve to have a rest next week to unwind after the large work load of our Book Sale, so please attend our Fellowship Night BBQ at my home Tuesday at 6pm. I will have a pot belly stove burning but wear warm clothes as it is an outside event on my veranda. Please bring what cold drinks that you would like to drink but the kettle will be hot for tea and coffee. I must say thank you to my fellow Rotarians who at such short notice gave up their time to help out at the Rotary Lodge. 4 Our Club History Lake Ellen Rotary Images Part 2 Laying stone bays a er the lake was drained. Construc on on Lake Ellen con nued through 1983 and into A concrete pla orm for the Model Boat Ramp, and picnic shelters were constructed by club members. The final addi ons were 120 trees planted, a gas BBQ installed and a public fitness circuit. On Sunday June , the Lake was named and opened by Mayor Allan Stewart. Students at Ak Tenamit study before a ending and entrepreneurial business class. A Rotary community development project along the Rio Dulce in east Guatemala. Lake Ellen completed (for the second me) in The Second Lake By 1995, the edges of the lake were crumbling, and the lake had been sil ng for some me. Club members decided to drain and redredge the lake, and put stone pitching around the sides. Eight long term unemployed people, supervised by Rotarians, undertook the project with DEET funding, and under the eagle eye of Project Manager Bert Bent, began the process of stone pitching. Using a carrot and s ck reward system for hard work, the lake was completed in half the allo ed me, and a concrete ring path was also constructed, with more tree plan ng and landscaping. A Grant from the Rotary Founda on provided free lunch to children at the Bujo Primary School in Uganda. When the Lake Ellen area was redeveloped again by Bundaberg Regional Council in 2008 as a major recrea onal and heritage hub, Club Members again helped by construc ng a fence around the children s traffic area.
