2 A Message from the CEO Welcome to May s edition of Members News and with Mothers Day just around the corner why not make plans to spoil your mum at Yaralla Sports Club. In response to popular demand we have secured popular Gladstone Photographer Natalia Muszkat to provide a complimentary family portrait for anyone that dines at one of our eateries on the 14th May. Krystal has been working hard and has put together an impressive line-up of events in our GEC We have something for everyone commencing with a free No Limits Conference on the 5th May, the popular Play School Concert on the 12th May, the Gladstone Pregnancy, Birth and Baby Expo on the 28th May and One Night Magic Orbison and Elvis concert on June 10th. Our Y rewards partners have again put together some impressive offers to members and I would encourage all to support our local businesses whenever possible. Will Will Schroeder, CEO How Your Club Helps Our Community Yaralla Sports Club exists not only to provide entertainment but also to provide assistance and support to the wider community and its various organisations. Last month we supported the following clubs and initiatives: Yaralla Dynamics Netball Club $808 GAPDL $5,251 Ladies Club $450 Miscellaneous Community $150 Yaralla Junior Sport Star $2,000 Yaralla Cricket Club $243 Yaralla Hockey Club $337 Yaralla Junior Soccer $1,431 Total $10,670 We would like to thank all of our members and their guests as without your continued support we would be unable to support these community organisations. Dear Members, The Management Committee of Yaralla Sports Club passed a resolution at a recent meeting to not renew the Club s agency agreement with UBET. (TAB). In a fast changing digital world we now find that many of our members are using their mobile phones and online platforms for their wagering needs. This development is not unique with many wagering customers now shifting to a 24/7 online solution. The shift from traditional on premise wagering to online has accelerated over the past 12 months which has led to Yaralla Sports Club reviewing it s agreement with UBET and Sky Channel. Over the past 3 months the facility has experienced on average 15 customers per day which does not support the continued operation of this service. Combined UBET and Sky Channel cost the Club in excess of $50,000 per annum and the Management Committee has chosen to invest these funds in initiatives well supported by the majority of members and not the few. On a positive note this now provides a dedicated area for members to watch sports and an additional Keno terminal has recently been installed for our members convenience. It is accepted that some members will be disappointed with this decision however it was abundantly clear after review that as more and more members transitioned to digital platforms the costs associated with this service would only continue to deteriorate. We thank you for you re continued support.

6 The Yaralla Junior Sports Star awards are now up and running for the 9th year in a row. With over $15,000 per year donated to great sporting individuals in Gladstone, this is undeniably the greatest sporting support program in the region. Keep your eye on The Observer each Saturday for the weekly winners. To nominate a Sports Star today, head to our website yaralla.com.au Lachlan Wilmot Gladstone basketball 1st April, Lachlan Wilmot is a talented basketballer and is the first of this year s Yaralla Sports Club Junior Sports Star nominations. In January at the QLD State Championships he was offered a spot to play for the QLD South Emerging U17 men s team, heading to USA in June to attend training camps and play in American College Basketball Competitions. Coby Richardson Gladstone Gladiators Swimming Club 8th April, Coby has recently qualified to compete at the Australian Age Nationals Swimming Championships in April for the 13 years male 100m and 200m Breaststroke events. These two events only attract approximately swimmers in Australia who can achieve the fast qualifying time. The Age Nationals Swimming Championships are the goal for every competitive swimmer and the pinnacle event in the Australian Swimming Calendar. Harrison rideout Yaralla cricket Club 15th April, Harrison has potential to succeed in his chosen sport. He is a quiet achiever, well mannered, very respectful to his parents, coaches, club committee members, his team players and opposition team. In the past 2 cricket seasons he has been selected in the QLD Silver Rookie Program and has an amazing bowling average in each team he represents throughout Queensland. Abbey lowry Sparks hockey club 22nd April, Last month Abbey was named in the Queensland U15 No. 1 team to compete at the National Hockey Championships in Moorebank NSW. For the past 2 years she has also competed at the Australian All Schools Volleyball championships in Melbourne where she has captained the team.
