The latest economic output data from the ffice for ational tatistics shows that the UK economy grew by.1 in the first quarter of. This follows on from growth of.4 in the final quarter of. This latest figure is the lowest level of quarterly growth recorded since Q4. It is worth noting that since the growth levels in the first quarter have been significantly below the rates experienced in subsequent quarters (see fig. 1.1). It will be interesting to see if this same rebound occurs this year. However, there is no doubt that this first quarter growth figure, following on from a slight reduction in growth during, points to a slowing economy in the UK. The bad weather experienced in the UK was attributed by some for the poor performance in the first quarter but the stated that the effects of this were generally small.
