2 Cooranbean Courier November Welfare As far as we know all our members are now well. Let s hope you all stay that way. MGNSW Standards Review... Kreenah There will be a Meeting and Site Visit on Friday, 4 th November. The MGNSW reviewers will be back for their third and final site visit as a part of the Standards Program that we have been fortunate to participate in this year. It is for a start - get in early, have a cuppa and a chat. Lunch is provided (rsvp please) and we will wrap up at approximately Hopefully you will all be able to attend. If you can t, please feel free to communicate from afar. Again, all members are welcome. We made excellent progress at our own team meet-up last time and since then much activity has already begun. Following the team discussion on the 7th October, we are already underway with some excellent action planning initiatives and we will be well-prepared for the final site visit of the MGNSW Reviewers. Our Working Groups currently include - Strategic Planning / Business Services Infrastructure / Facilities Management Visitor Services / Tour Group Services / Education/ Newsletter / Risk Assessment Promotion / Marketing & Media / Fund Raising Collection / Exhibitions / Display Volunteers / BWHS Membership Management / Children s Check / Open Days We are certainly well prepared to discuss the Action Plan that MGNSW expect of us on the 4 th. We look forward to seeing you. Signage Our new additional sign welcoming visitors to use the Museum Grounds outside the normal opening hours has now been received and looks great. This additional sign is a condition of our Road Direction signs. Our new brochures will also include these details.

3 Cooranbean Courier November Hawkesbury River History Heritage Cruise Despite the rather gloomy weather over 50 members, family and friends joined this cruise at Patonga, with a few more embarking at Brooklyn. The weather brightened as the day went by and we enjoyed Peter Rea's presentation, featuring graphics, photographs and videos of the models, as we visited historic sites such as the position at Little Wobby (10 metres down) of the WW1 warship HMAS Swan. Then we went on to the historic defence sites at Juno Point and West Head. We were also treated to Peter s commentary about the history of HMAS Hawkesbury, HMAS Parramatta and HMAS Swan, the remains of HMAS Parramatta, the building of the two Hawkesbury rail bridges, and lots more interesting information. If you haven t been on this fascinating cruise give it a go. I ve been twice now and I still find it enthralling. CWA Woy Woy Christmas Fair... Fiona Fiona McLennnan has arranged for Brisbane Water Historical Society to have a stall at the upcoming "Festive Fair" being held by Woy Woy CWA on Saturday 3rd December. It will operate from 10am until 2pm at the CWA Rooms in Woy Woy. Please come along to support us there. As well, if you have any handicrafts etc that you would like to donate and that would be suitable for us to sell as end of year gifts, please contact Fiona via the museum Volunteer Central Coast We will also be having a stall at the VCC Expo on 15th November. Tricia, Fiona and Margaret will be attending. Historic Printer Karen Askew has been doing an amazing job on the old Printer! Karen s restoration care and experience is greatly appreciated and the old saddle nearby is looking pretty wonderful too. Big Thanks Karen.

4 Cooranbean Courier November Mangrove Mountain Country Fair... Edith This was held on Saturday, 29 th October - Edith, Margareta, Fiona and Frank attended and took some of our interesting artifacts. We joined other groups from Dharug, Lower Hawkesbury H/Ss, and CWA in the "History Tent". There were quite a lot of visitors and a number of brochures were taken, with people expressing an interest in visiting the Cottage and Museum. Quite a bit of interest was shown in our stall particularly in our book of old newspaper clippings and the old Anthony Hordern's Catalogue. There were many stalls and attractions and it was a very pleasant day. Keep it in mind for a visit next year. Networking Margaret and Ron Pearce attended the Networking night at The Austrian Schnitzelhaus on Monday, 24 th October, for the launch of the new issue of the Central Coast Visitors Guide. There was some nice food and Kasey Chambers performed accompanied by duo 'Grizzle Train'. ABC FM92.5 Central Coast History Segments... Kreenah They air at differing times and days, (look out for them) though recordings of the short segments will be added to the BWHS Facebook website as soon as they become available, in case you haven t had a chance to tune in. Kreenah recently interviewed Kendall Holbert on his Footprints Memoirs; Bob Pankhurst spoke on our extraordinary indigenous history; Elaine Fry OAM on the tireless community effort over the years in preserving Henry Kendall Cottage and building the historical museum; and Jake Cassar on the Old Sydney Town revival push and the great value of developing educational programs. New Display from 1st December "Surf's Up" celebrating the Society's 66th year this Summer.

5 Cooranbean Courier November PROGRAM November 19 th Spring Gathering Our Guest Speaker on this occasion will be Margaret Hardy. Many of you will remember Margaret- she has visited a few times and is always welcome. December 1 st New display - SURF S UP! December - 13 th Christmas/Birthday function BANKSIA ROSE We hope that those members who have been to our Grounds recently have noticed our beautiful Banksia Rose in bloom. Thanks to our Gardening Team for looking after it so well. Our Grounds are looking lovely - thanks again to our Gardening Team. Here is a little photo. Sadly those of you who get a paper copy of our Courier won t see its beautiful pale yellow colour. You will just have to visit the Grounds to have a look. CWA Display Don t forget to have a look at our current display by the CWA of NSW Northumberland Group More than Tea and Scones. It won t be changed until the end of November. We ve had another enquiry about a Twilight Tour like the one David Benwell recently ran for the Cub Scouts. Looks like you may have started something David! Group Tours during October included our long time friend, Terranova Holidays; a very busy but entertaining couple of days with students from Kariong P/School ; and a visit from a new client, Topps Tours, who operate in the Parramatta area. They had a BBQ after their visit and seemed to have had a lovely time. Roster A list of Bookings is in our Front Office and is progressively updated. Our Duty Roster Officer, Margaret Pearce, will advise those members on the Duty Roster. If you wish to go on the Roster please let Margaret know ( ). You would be with a couple of experienced members for the first few times and with Tours there are always at least two members on duty. Would Duty Members please confirm with Margaret when they are on duty. Please make sure that if you suddenly find that you can t do your museum duty you contact Margaret (or Edith or Shirley).
