WELCOME EVENT AMBASSADORS It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2018 Hamilton Island Triathlon and Whitehaven Beach Ocean Swim.

Over the course of the weekend, you can expect to push yourself in paradise in one of Australia s most pristine locations.

Despite its awe-inspiring scenery, this exceptional course has developed a reputation for seriously challenging competitors, attracting participants from all around Australia and the world.

2 WELCOME EVENT AMBASSADORS It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2018 Hamilton Island Triathlon and Whitehaven Beach Ocean Swim. Whether you are here to take on the Triathlon, compete in the iconic Whitehaven Beach Ocean Swim or to support the participating athletes I thank you for joining us on Hamilton Island. Over the course of the weekend, you can expect to push yourself in paradise in one of Australia s most pristine locations. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Triathlon and Whitehaven Beach Ocean Swim and I have been proud to watch them evolve into two of the most anticipated endurance events in Australia. Despite its awe-inspiring scenery, this exceptional course has developed a reputation for seriously challenging competitors, attracting participants from all around Australia and the world. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors, Powerade, Maui Jim, Espresso di Manfredi, Tourism and Events Queensland, ZIPP, SRAM, Corry Cycles and Cruise Whitsundays, for their support and contribution to the event. I wish the athletes the best of luck and hope that while you are with us you are able to take some time out from the competition to enjoy all that Hamilton Island has to offer. Ryan Fisher Life has come full circle for Ryan Fisher as we celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Hamilton Island Triathlon. Ryan was a fresh-faced junior and finished second behind multiple Olympian Courtney Atkinson in our inaugural year but now returns as a previous champion (2010) and an Olympian (Rio 2016) himself. He will be keen to reclaim the title once more but also contribute to the event by assisting at Swim with the Stars and the Junior Clinic. Glenn Bourke - Chief Executive Officer, Hamilton Island Susie O Neil Madame Butterfly needs no introduction. Actually born in nearby Mackay, Susie grew up in Brisbane and excelled in sport and went on to win no less than eight Olympic medals. Earlier this year, she was awarded the title of Member of the Order of Australia (AM) and was part of the opening ceremony at the Commonwealth Games.

We ll have Ambassadors Susie O Neill and Ryan Fisher, offering tips on beach starts, sighting, positioning for turns and all you need to know! EAT LIKE A PRO FRIDAY 16 NOVEMBER, 7.00PM PM, SAILS RESTAURANT Join Ambassadors Susie O Neill, Ryan Fisher and fellow triathletes and eat like a pro in preparation for the upcoming race. $20 special menu and beverages available for purchase. KIDS CONFIDENCE CLINIC SATURDAY 17 NOVEMBER, 3.30PM PM, MEET AT THE BOUGAINVILLEA MARQUEE Breaking into small working groups, the kids will touch on swim technique with Olympian Susie O Neil and Andrew Reidy Reid from Bondi Rescue, plus bike handling, transition skills and run techniques with Olympian Ryan Fisher and former international cyclist Mike Clucas. SUNSET STRETCH AND YOGA SATURDAY 17 NOVEMBER, 5:30PM-6:30PM, KEEL DECK Soothe those aching muscles and join us for a post race stretch and yoga session set to finish right on sunset. Mats supplied. MARINA DAZE SUNDAY 18 NOVEMBER, 6:00PM- 9:00PM, FRONT STREET Live entertainment, beverages available for purchase. TRAIL TIME RECOVERY RUN MONDAY 19 NOVEMBER, 6.00AM, MEET AT REEF VIEW HOTEL FOYER Visit South East Head and its forest of native grass trees, savour a quick soak of the calves at Escape Beach or take the long road home and climb out of Coral Cove. 7, 10 and 12km options.

RACE RULES Triathlon This is a sanctioned event, non-drafting on the cycle course will apply and there will be officials policing this on the course.

Any athlete seen to be taking a shortcut during the event will be disqualified. Whitehaven Beach Ocean Swim This is a non-sanctioned event.

Should you be found wearing any of these you will be disqualified. Any athlete found taking a shortcut will be disqualified.

6 RACE RULES Triathlon This is a sanctioned event, non-drafting on the cycle course will apply and there will be officials policing this on the course. Bike mechanics will be on course to assist with breakdowns. Hamilton Island allow wetsuits to be worn for the swim course. The water temperature will be approximately 23 degrees. Any athlete seen to be taking a shortcut during the event will be disqualified. Whitehaven Beach Ocean Swim This is a non-sanctioned event. This is a NON- WETSUIT event, swim skins are permissible but any suit or device that aids buoyancy or propulsion will not be allowed (750m Anything Goes exempt from this rule). Should you be found wearing any of these you will be disqualified. Any athlete found taking a shortcut will be disqualified. Race Withdrawals Withdrawals prior to the event must be in writing, events@hamiltonisland.com.au. If you withdraw on race day before race start, please advise an official. The cancellation fee is 100% should you pull out on the day of the race. If you withdraw during the race, please report to the registration desk (Bougainvillea Marquee or Whitehaven Beach) and advise the officials that you have withdrawn.
