Boeing Transport, Inc. built the Airport in United Airlines acquired the Airport from Boeing in United continued to own and operate the Airport until 1953 when the City of Reno purchased it. Terminal Building was dedicated in The facility was completed in time for the Squaw Valley Olympics. The Airport Authority of Washoe County was created by 1977 Nevada Legislature to own and operate the Airport beginning in In July 2005, the name was changed to Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority. The Airport was named Reno-Tahoe International Airport in 1994, with the Terminal Building named after Senator Howard W. Cannon. Reno-Tahoe International Airport celebrated 75 years of service in November 2003!

2 Runways & Facilities Runway 16R/34L (Western parallel runway running North- South) is 11,002 feet long. Includes: Precision Approach Path Indicators (PAPI), Instrument Landing System (ILS) and VHF Omnidirectional Radio Range (VOR) Approach. Runway 16L/34R (Eastern parallel runway running North-South) is 9,000 feet long. Includes: PAPI, Runway End Identifier Lights (REIL s) and VOR Approach. Runway 7/25 (East-West) is 6,102 feet long. Includes: PAPI and REIL s. High Intensity Runway Lighting (HIRL) and lighted centerlines on Runways 16R and 16L allow reliable, all weather operations. 23 Passenger Boarding Gates. RTIA covers over 1,450 acres and is at an elevation of 4,415 feet. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) staffs and operates 24-hour Air Traffic Control Tower. 6 No local tax dollars are involved in operating Reno-Tahoe International Airport. Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority Governed by a nine member Board of Trustees, appointed by City Councils of Reno and Sparks, Washoe County Commission and Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority. RTIA is totally self-sufficient financially. RTIA runs on fees and rentals collected from Airport tenants (i.e. airlines, rental car agencies, restaurants, gaming machines, gift shops, etc.). The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority currently has 256 employees. Total number of Airport employees (including tenants) at RTIA is 2,600. Total annual economic impact on the Reno-Tahoe area is $2 billion.
