4 2 A REGIONAL RESOURCE
5 OWNERSHIP The Monterey Peninsula Airport District is a Special Airport District, created by an act of the California Legislature in 1941 The District is a stand alone public entity, governed by five publicly elected Members to the Board of Directors District voting boundaries were set by the enabling legislation 3
6 MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the Monterey Peninsula Airport is to provide access to the air transportation system by developing and managing facilities and services that contribute to the economy of the region. 4
7 GOVERNANCE Five publicly elected Directors, each serving four-year terms, governs the District. The members are elected at large. Director s terms overlap with either two or three Director s terms expiring every two years. Registered voters residing within the District boundaries are eligible to vote for board members. 5
8 BOUNDRIES The District encompasses the Cities of Monterey, Pacific Grove, Carmel by the Sea, Seaside, Del Rey Oaks, and Sand City and unincorporated communities including Pebble Beach, the west end of Carmel Valley, Hidden Hills, Laguna Seca and Monterey-Salinas Highway to the Laureles Grade. The District s population is about 87,415. 6

10 FACILITIES The FAA designator - MRY The airport consists of 598 acres, Main terminal building, about 60,000 square feet The airport has two parallel, east-west runways. 1.Primary runway (10R/28L), 7,600 X 150 Category 1 Precision Instrument Landing System (ILS) on runway 10R 2.General utility runway (10L/28R) 3,500 X 60 8
